Ste Marguerite Surf Forecast and Surf Report

The next couple of weeks at Ste Marguerite are looking pretty flat and average, to be honest. There’s a lot of small, weak, onshore-chop days to get through before we see something worthwhile. The first week is almost a write-off for proper surfing.

We kick off on Saturday the 12th with a tiny 2ft swell from the west, but the period is a short 8 seconds and the energy is weak. Morning has a clean cross-off breeze, so you could get a few grovelly waves, but it’s nothing exciting. That afternoon, the wind swings onshore, and it turns into a choppy mess. Sunday the 13th morning is the first little highlight: the swell is still only 2ft, but the period stretches out to 11 seconds and the wind is glassy – dead calm. That will make for some clean, if small, lines. The energy is still low, but for a small board and some patience, it’s the best of a quiet bunch.

After that, the whole week from Monday the 14th through to Thursday the 24th is dominated by tiny 1ft to 3ft west swell, short periods, and mostly cross-onshore winds. Most days score poorly. There’s a moment on Wednesday the 16th morning where the combined energy bumps up a bit with a clean cross-off wind, but with only 3ft at 10 seconds, it’s still very average. The rest of that week is just lumpy and choppy.

Now, here is the standout. If you can wait, mark Friday the 25th morning on your calendar. The swell jumps to 4ft from the west, and the period goes long at 14 seconds – that’s proper groundswell. The combined energy is strong, and the wind is glassy, dead calm. That is the morning to be out there. The swell is still a manageable size for most surfers, not too big for beginners, but with that long period and glassy conditions, Ste Marguerite should be firing with clean, lined-up waves. The crowd factor is ‘sometimes’ busy, so you might have a bit of company, but for those conditions, it’ll be worth it. Just remember that a long period swell like this can break a bit straight on a beach setup, but as a point break, Ste Marguerite is well suited.

The following few days are smaller again, with clean offshore winds on the 26th and 27th, but nothing approaching that Friday morning peak.

So, in short: don't bother for the first week and a half. There is a long gap of poor to average conditions. The one to aim for is Friday the 25th of September. That morning is your true standout. Keep an eye on the forecast, as long-range calls can shift, but right now it looks like a beauty.
