Ste Marguerite Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Right, mate, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for Ste Marguerite over the next couple of weeks.

To be straight with you, it’s a lean run for a while. The first proper chance for a wave comes on the morning of Saturday the 12th, but it’s just a small, ordinary 2ft W swell with a short 8-second period. The energy is weak (52), and while the wind is a light cross-off from the east, it’s nothing to write home about. The water’s a touch warmer than normal at 68°, but that’s about it for highlights that day.

Sunday the 13th is where your ears should perk up. You get that same 2ft W swell, but the period stretches out to 11 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy coming through. The kicker here is the wind: glassy conditions in the morning. That’s a major positive, meaning clean, smooth faces. Combined energy is still modest (87), but with that quality of wind, those little waves will be a joy on a point break like this. The morning is the standout session of the entire forecast.

Monday the 14th and Tuesday the 15th are pretty ordinary. The wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, chopping up the small swell. Tuesday arvo sees the energy climb to 109, but with a moderate cross-onshore wind, it’s a mess.

Now, Wednesday the 16th morning has potential for a bigger set. Swell jumps to 4ft from the WNW with a short 8-second period, and energy is moderate (265). The wind is a clean cross-off from the NNW, so it’ll look decent, but the short period means the waves won’t have much shape. Still, it's the most size on offer so far.

From there, things go pear-shaped for over a week. A lot of onshore wind and poor conditions. The swell stays small and inconsistent. There are a few mornings with offshore or glassy winds – like the morning of Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd with NE offshore breezes – but the swell is tiny (2ft to 2ft) and the energy is low. It’s not worth paddling out for.

There is one intriguing blip on the horizon. On the morning of Sunday the 27th, we get a 1ft swell from the WSW with a very long 17-second period. That’s proper long-period groundswell, and the energy is moderate (140). The wind is a light cross-off from the ENE. This is very far out, so treat it as promising but not certain. At a point break like Ste Marguerite, that long period will produce long, peeling lines, even at that height.

The standout for the whole window is the glassy Sunday morning on the 13th. The second-best call is the promising but distant Sunday morning on the 27th. Get out there for that glassy session mid-month.
