The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for our stretch of coast.
Right now, we're in a bit of a quiet spell. For the next week or so, it’s pretty grim. The surf that is around is tiny, weak, and messy. We’ve got a long run of days where the wind is just ruining things, making it hard to get excited about anything. Honestly, it’s not worth paddling out until we hit the back half of the forecast.
If you scratch around, there’s a tiny window on Saturday morning, the 22nd, at Guidel Plages. We're looking at a small 2ft swell from the W, with the swell energy really weak at just (50). The wind is a light cross-offshore, which keeps it clean, but it's pretty ordinary. The water is sitting at 67°F, which is about average for the time of year. But honestly, it’s not going to get the heart racing.
The waiting game continues after that. We get a few days of nothing before the swell starts to climb, but the wind stays onshore, so it’s just a choppy mess. By Thursday the 27th, the swell jumps up to 10ft, but it’s cross-on and choppy. That's a no-go. It gets even bigger on Friday the 28th, with a huge 15ft swell from the SW, but with a strong cross-onshore wind. That’s not surfable; that's a kite-surfing kind of day. The energy is enormous, (4655), but the quality is zero.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. After that big blow, things start to clean up. Tuesday morning, September 1st, is a glimmer of hope. The swell drops back to a tiny 3ft from the WSW, but the wind goes glassy. Absolutely flat calm. It’ll be clean, but there’s no real push. It’s a meditative paddle, not a surf.
The real standout, the one to circle on your calendar, is Wednesday morning, September 2nd. The wind switches to a light offshore from the ENE, and we get a solid 8ft swell from the SW. The data is calling this very good, and I can feel it. At that size, it’s a bit much for beginners but perfect for anyone with a bit of experience. The swell energy is strong at (844). This looks like the best chance for some proper waves, so get your gear ready and be patient for that day.
After that, the wind gets messy again. Thursday the 3rd has some size, 8ft, but it’s blown out. There are a few clean-ish windows later on, like Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th, with a cross-offshore wind, but the swell drops right back down to 3ft.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a write-off. The second week has one true standout on September 2nd. It’s a long-range call, so keep an eye on it, but right now that’s the one to aim for.
Rusty.
