Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Guidel Plages over the next couple of weeks.
Alright, I’m gonna level with you. The forecast for Guidel Plages is a pretty grim one for the most part. We’ve got a 16-day window here, but it’s not until Saturday morning, July 4th, that we even see anything worth talking about, and even then it’s a real struggle. There’s a massive gap after that where the surf just isn’t happening for a paddle.
The one tiny window of opportunity is on Saturday, July 4th, in the morning. Guidel Plages is a beach and reef setup, and it’s normally very consistent, but we’re just not getting the love from the ocean. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t be freezing while you’re sitting there.
On that Saturday morning, we’ve got a small 3 ft swell rolling in from the WSW, with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is weak (133). The absolute key here is that the wind is dead calm – glassy conditions. It’ll be clean as a whistle. The break is exposed to the SW, and the optimum direction is SW, so it’s a good match. The crowds are listed as "sometimes", so you might bump into a few others, but it’s a Saturday, so expect a few.
After that morning, it all goes pear-shaped. The afternoon sees a 16 mph cross-on wind from the WSW, and the waves are just a mess. Then from Sunday, July 5th, right through to the end of the forecast on Sunday, July 19th, it’s a string of poor surf conditions. The swell drops to nothing, and the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and lumpy. There is a little bump in size on the 12th of July with a 4 ft swell from the WNW (339 energy), but it’s accompanied by a fresh 16 mph cross-on wind, so it’s a complete write-off. For the experts, it’s not worth the paddle out, and for beginners, it’s a definite no-go.
So, take it from me, Rusty. The only stand-out is that clean, glassy Saturday morning session on the 4th. If you can get out then, you’ll find some fun, small waves. Otherwise, the boards are staying in the shed for the rest of this outlook. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of these days.
Rusty.
