Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Guidel Plages has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Overall, it’s a pretty quiet stretch for this exposed beach and reef setup. We’ve got a long patch of tiny, weak waves with messy wind, so you'll need to be patient. The standout window is looking like the very end of the forecast, but that's a real long-range gamble.
Starting off this Sunday, July 5th, we get a little window of hope. The morning is glassy with an easterly breeze at 3 mph, and there are clean, 2 ft waves rolling in from the west with a 10-second period. The energy is weak (80), so it's small, but that glassy surface makes it the best we'll see for a while. A great option for a beginner or anyone wanting a longboard slide. The crowds pop up here sometimes, so you might have some company on those clean little lines.
That's about it for the good stuff for a long while. From Sunday afternoon right through to Saturday, July 18th, the waves stay tiny—between 1 ft and 3 ft—with weak energy readings (mostly under 100). The wind is all over the place: cross-shore, onshore, and just generally messy. There are a few moments of clean conditions, like the mornings of July 7th and 12th with cross-offshore winds, but the swell is just too small to get excited about. Monday morning, July 13th, shows a tiny 0.3 ft swell with a 19-second period, but that's pure open-ocean energy with no size to it.
We finally see a pulse of energy arrive on Saturday, July 19th. The morning brings a 5 ft swell from the southwest with a short 6-second period. The energy jumps to moderate (203), but it's already getting pushed by a cross-onshore wind at 6 mph, making it a bit bumpy. This is getting into the size range that might be too much for beginners.
Then things get a little wild on Sunday, July 19th. The afternoon shows an 8 ft swell from the southwest, but with that short 6-second period, it's going to be a lumpy, powerful mess under a 22 mph cross-onshore wind. The energy is strong (1150), but the surf quality is no good. This is expert-only territory, and honestly, the wind and chop might make it more appealing for kitesurfers than paddle surfers.
The last call on Monday morning, July 20th, is a 5 ft westerly swell with an 8-second period and a light cross-onshore breeze. There's moderate energy (284), but it’s still a bit sloppy. It's the best of a poor bunch that week, but nothing to write home about.
So, if you're keen, your best bet is this Sunday morning, July 5th. It's small but glassy and super clean. Everything after that is a wait-and-see game, with a slight, uncertain uptick right at the end of the period. Keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
