Right then, let’s talk about the next few weeks here. To be honest, it’s a quiet stretch ahead. We’ve got a promising little window early on, but after that, the ocean just goes to sleep for a long time.
We start off with the best chance to get wet. On Friday morning, the 3rd of July, it’s looking like the pick of the period at Guidel Plages. We’ve got a clean, 3ft swell rolling in from the west with a 10-second period giving it a bit of shape, moderate energy (194). The wind is light and offshore from the NE, so the surface should be glassy and clean. This is the one to aim for. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Saturday morning, the 4th of July, is also worth a look. The swell drops a touch to 3ft from the west, but you’ve still got light offshore wind from the ENE. It’s smaller and cleaner, with moderate energy (127). Not a standout, but a decent backup if you miss Friday.
From Sunday the 5th onwards, things take a real downturn. The swell drops into the 2ft range and smaller, the energy levels tumble, and the winds start messing it up with cross-onshore and onshores. We go through a long, flat run with no real recommendations at all for days and days. There are a few mornings with clean conditions on tiny waves, but nothing worth paddling out for until well into the second week. By the 14th of July, the swell is a mere 0.7ft, and while the wind stays offshore, there’s simply no wave energy to work with.
So, in short: get on it Friday morning the 3rd if you can. After that, it’s a long, quiet wait. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s a true flat spell on the horizon.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
