Table - best surf conditions forecast for Guidel Plages over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee, let’s see what we’ve got here in this corner of the world. Honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead for Guidel Plages. This is a beach and reef setup, exposed to the swell, but for the next two weeks the ocean’s just not playing ball. Most of the time it’s either too weak, onshore, or just messy. You’re looking at a long run of poor conditions. The water temperature is sitting at about 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – a nice thought, but you’ll need a thick spring suit all the same because that’s still cool water.
Let’s break it down. From this Sunday, the 12th of July, right through to the morning of Sunday the 26th, it’s basically a write-off. Swell is tiny – mostly under 3 ft – and the wind is almost always ruining it. We get a bit of clean surf on the morning of the 13th with an easterly cross-off, but the swell is only 1 ft and weak (combined energy of 24). Not worth paddling out for. There’s a moment on Tuesday the 21st where the wind goes glassy in the morning with a 1.0 ft swell, but again, it’s just too small to get excited about.
Things finally show a pulse of energy on Thursday the 23rd of July. The morning brings a 4 ft swell from the west (period 9 seconds, combined energy of 385) with a cross-on breeze. That’s moderate energy, but the wind is trash. Then the afternoon sees a big spike: 8 ft from the west, period 9 seconds, and a massive combined energy of 2116. That’s powerful, but with onshore wind at 19 mph, it’s going to be a full-on washing machine. This is expert-only territory at that size, and only if you’re comfortable with a messy, blown-out beast. For beginners, 5 ft is the top end; 8 ft is a hard no.
The best chance for something halfway decent is the morning of Monday the 27th. You get a 4 ft swell from the west (9-second period, 181 combined energy) and glassy conditions with a light NNE breeze. The data says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions” – a 1 out of 10. So it’s not *good*, but it’s the best thing in 16 days. For a surf-starved local, that morning window might give you a few weak, cleanish walls. The afternoon goes back to onshore chop.
Because the wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, and the break is a beach and reef setup, when the swell does get a bit of size (like the 23rd), it’s going to look pretty interesting for kite surfing rather than paddle surfing. The strong cross-onshores will make it a clean playground for kites.
So, to wrap it up: there’s no standout day here. The 27th morning is the only real shout, and even then, keep expectations low. The rest is a long, frustrating gap. Stick to your local longboard on the tiny glassy windows if you’re desperate.
Rusty.
