The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Guidel Plages over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you right off the bat: this stretch is looking like a real patience tester. There’s a long, dry gap of almost no worthwhile surf to kick things off, stretching from Saturday the 18th right through to the end of the first week. The water’s sitting at a very warm 69°, which is much warmer than we’d normally expect for this time of year – feels more like a swim than a surf session.
The first real glimmer of something rideable doesn't show up until Wednesday morning the 29th of July. Even then, we’re only talking 0.6 ft of swell out of the west with an 8-second period. The energy is weak (54). It’s described as surfable but very ordinary. The bonus is a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNW, so the surface will be clean. It’s a tiny, weak little window to get wet, but you won’t be bragging about it.
Now, the only clear standout in this whole 16-day outlook is the morning of Thursday the 30th of July. This is where things finally get interesting. We’ve got a clean 4 ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a solid 9-second period. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 315. The wind is light from the north, almost glassy, so the conditions should be good. For a beach and reef setup like this, that’s the pick of the fortnight. After that, the Friday the 31st sees clean, moderate offshore winds from the NE, but the swell drops back to a weaker 3 ft (energy 158) with a longer 10-second period – okay for a paddle but nothing special.
The rest of the run into early August is mostly small, weak, or plagued by choppy cross-onshore winds. There’s a chance for a clean session on Saturday morning the 1st of August, but again the swell is tiny at 2 ft and weak (90). It’s not going to get your heart racing. The take-home message here is simple: if you can wait, the morning of Thursday the 30th of July is your best shot for a clean wave around waist-high. Everything else is a gamble on tiny leftovers or blown-out mush.
Rusty out.
