The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. Right now, and for the next two weeks, things are looking pretty darn quiet here at Guidel Plages. We’ve got a solid run of small, weak surf and tricky winds on the horizon, so don’t get your hopes up for any standout sessions.
The water is sitting at a very warm 68°F, which is about 5°F warmer than average for this time of year – that’s a real treat, a solid 3mm shorty or springsuit kind of warmth.
Looking at the first week, from Tuesday the 14th through to Monday the 20th, it’s a flat spell. We’re looking at swell heights barely scraping 1ft to 2ft with combined energy readings mostly in the low double-digits, like 26 on the first morning. That’s essentially no wave energy. Winds are all over the place, mostly cross-on or onshore, and that 0.7ft stuff simply isn’t rideable. We do get a couple of clean mornings, like Wednesday the 15th with a light cross-offshore breeze, but with only 1ft of swell, it’s a lake. There’s about a full week of this flatness, so don’t bother waxing up just yet.
Things try to pick up a touch on the morning of Wednesday the 22nd with a clean, moderate offshore breeze and 2ft from the SSE, combined energy of 37 – still marginal. The morning of Thursday the 23rd offers glassy conditions and a little bump to 3ft from the WSW, but it’s a short period of 5 seconds, so it’ll be weak and crumbly. Still not making the cut.
We finally see a pulse of energy arrive over the final weekend. On Saturday the 25th, a proper groundswell starts to show, with 2ft from the west pushing a long 13-second period. The combined energy jumps to 203 (moderate). The catch? It’s cross-on and a little choppy. By Sunday the 26th, that swell builds to 3ft-4ft from the west, period dropping to 11 seconds, and energy hitting 235-269. But again, the wind is a fresh cross-onshore, lumping it all up. Then Monday the 27th looks promising on paper with clean conditions and a light cross-on breeze, but the swell is a wonky 4ft from the west. The real kicker is Monday afternoon, when a 6ft, 10-second swell from the WNW delivers a big energy of 912 – but it’s onshore and messy, making it more of a kitesurfing setup than a paddle session. For the experts, Tuesday the 28th and Wednesday the 29th keep dumping in 5ft waves with strong energy (up to 865), but it’s all onshore wind and short, fat periods. No good, clean windows.
Honestly, there isn't a single standout in this 16-day window. It’s a long, flat run followed by a messy, onshore swell. If you’re desperate, the cleanest morning might be Wednesday the 22nd with that tiny SSE bump, or maybe Wednesday the 29th for the bigger swell if you can handle the onshore chop. But for a proper session, we’re out of luck.
Rusty.
