The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the outlook is pretty grim. We’re looking at a long stretch of weak, onshore junk with barely a wave worth paddling for. The only spot in the game is Le Fort Bloque, a beginner-friendly, inconsistent reef that needs a south-west swell to work. It’s exposed, so when the swell shows up, it can get some energy, but the wind is the problem.
Water temp is sitting at 65°F, which is dead average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first recommendation doesn’t come until the morning of Tuesday, 13 August. That morning, a clean light cross-offshore breeze from the NNW will tidy up a small 3ft swell from the WSW, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is weak, at 84, but it’s the best we’ll see for a while. The waves will be small and clean, but honestly, it’s ordinary. The afternoon gets blown out by a cross-onshore.
The next and only real standout is the morning of Wednesday, 19 August. This is the one to circle. The wind goes glassy, with a slight air from the WNW, and the swell bumps up to 4ft from the west, with a period of 9 seconds. That’s a moderate energy of 229, and with glassy conditions, the waves will be clean and lined up. It’s not big, but it’ll be fun for the beginners who usually surf this spot. Just a heads up – it’s inconsistent, so you’ll be waiting for sets, and crowds are possible.
The rest of the period is a write-off. Onshore winds, tiny surf, and poor conditions rule the roost. There’s a day or two with a glassy morning, but the swell is just too small to bother with.
So, keep your eyes on Wednesday the 19th. That’s your best bet. Until then, save the wax.
