Table - best surf conditions forecast for Poldhu Cove over the next 16 days.
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s headed our way for Poldhu Cove. I’ll be straight with you, mate, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a paddle. There’s a run of days with nothing on offer, so we’re talking about a long stretch with no real surf to speak of from the start right through to the end of July.
The first sign of any life is tiny, and it’s not until Monday the 13th of July. You’re looking at a 0.7ft SSW groundswell with a 19-second period, but with a 25 mph cross-off wind, it’s not going to be worth the effort. The energy is a measly 47 (weak), and the wave comment says it all: poor surf conditions. That’s basically a flat, blown-out mess.
The following days – Tuesday the 14th through to Thursday the 16th – are more of the same, with tiny 0.7ft to 1ft swells. We get a few moments of glassy conditions on the Thursday morning, but with only 0.7ft of swell, it’s barely a ripple. The combined energy is down in the 30s and 40s, which is weak. Honestly, it’s a quiet spell.
Friday the 17th through to Monday the 27th July is a dead zone. We’re talking swells of 0.7ft to 2ft, with poor to non-existent conditions. The winds are cross-off or light, but there’s just no power in the water. The energy readings are all two-digit, staying under 100, which is a sure sign of a very, very sleepy ocean.
Now, the end of the forecast period – Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th of July – finally sees a jump in size. On Sunday, we get a 4ft WSW swell, but the wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-shore, making it lumpy and messy. The energy climbs to 129 (moderate). Then Monday the 27th sees a 8ft to 10ft W swell, but it’s onshore at 25 mph, turning it into a complete washing machine. The energy jumps into the strong range (796 to 1115), but it’s going to be a wild, blown-out mess. That’s not a day for a paddle board; that’s kite territory for sure.
The only real standout? I hate to say it, but there’s not a single standout session in the whole outlook. The water temp is about normal for the time of year at Poldhu Cove, but that’s scant comfort. Keep an eye on the long-range, but for now, the boards are staying on the rack.
Rusty.
