Table - best surf conditions forecast for Poldhu Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a good look at what's on offer for the next couple of weeks at Poldhu Cove.
Truth be told, it’s a bit of a flat spell to kick things off. We're looking at a real gap in any worthwhile surf right from the start, all the way through to the end of the third week of July. There’s simply nothing doing for a good long stretch.
The first real sniff of something better comes in on the 20th of July. The energy starts to pick up, but it's still pretty messy. On Monday the 20th afternoon, we see a bit of a bump from the WNW at 3 ft, but it’s getting hammered by a fresh cross-onshore breeze, making it lumpy. Not exactly what you paddle out for.
Things actually build a little through Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd. The swell holds around 2 ft to 3 ft from the west-northwest, and the combined energy gets up there, hitting 153 on Tuesday afternoon and 184 on Wednesday afternoon. That's moderate energy, but the problem is the wind. It's mostly a fresh cross-onshore, so it’ll be lumpy and choppy. For a beach setup like Poldhu Cove, this kind of breeze and swell makes it look a whole lot more interesting for the kite crew than for us paddle surfers.
The one glimmer in the whole outlook, and I mean the *only* standout, is Thursday the 23rd morning. We get a clean 2 ft swell from the west, but more importantly, the wind swings to a cross-shore from the WNW. It won’t be perfect, described as having a lumpy cross-chop, but it’s the cleanest the surf will be in this entire run. The swell direction from the west is bang on what this spot likes. It's not big, and you'll be working for it, but at least you won't be fighting the wind the whole time.
After that, it fades again into the last weekend of July with tiny surf and poor conditions.
So, if you’re hanging for a wave, set your sights on Thursday morning the 23rd. It’s the only time the stars align even a little bit.
Rusty.
