Table - best surf conditions forecast for Poldhu Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Poldhu Cove has on offer over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is a tough one. We’ve got a long, dry spell ahead. For the next eleven days, from Friday the 10th of July right through to Monday the 20th of July, it’s pretty much a write-off. The swell is tiny, often well under 2ft, and the wind is mostly a stiff cross-offshore breeze, which sounds good in theory but the wave energy just isn’t there. The combined swell energy barely gets into three digits on a couple of days, staying weak, and most of the time it’s hovering below 100. It’s frustrating, because the conditions look clean, but there’s just nothing to ride.
There is a flicker of hope right at the tail end. Tuesday the 21st of July afternoon, we see a bit of a change. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, and that combined swell energy nudges up to 96. It’s still small, only 2ft from the west with a 10-second period, but it’s the best of a bad bunch. The report says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," so I’d call it a small-scale, clean option for a longboard or a foamie if you’re really jonesing for a paddle. Don’t expect much.
Then, things get a bit more interesting but messy. Wednesday the 22nd of July morning, the swell jumps up to 6ft from the west, with a short, weak 7-second period. That combined energy hits 353, so there’s some weight behind it. But the wind is a stiff cross-offshore at 19 mph, which will likely hold it together, but that short period means it’ll be a bit lumpy and crumbly. That size is getting into the "too big for beginners" territory, and the quality is still marked as poor. It’s a step up in power, but not a clean day.
The following few days, the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of July, the swell stays up in the 4ft to 6ft range from the west, with moderate energy (296 to 512). Unfortunately, the wind swings onshore from the south and southwest, turning the conditions ugly. By Saturday the 25th, we’ve got a fresh onshore breeze and 6ft swell – that’s a choppy, closed-out mess, only for the hardcore or the kite surfers.
Honestly, for this whole 16-day stretch, there isn’t a single standout session. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that glassy Tuesday the 21st is your only real window for clean, small waves. The bigger stuff later on is ruined by wind. A blank run like this is pretty normal for this area when the swells and winds don’t line up.
Keep an eye on it, though – forecasts can change.
Rusty.
