Table - best surf conditions forecast for Poldhu Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer down at Poldhu Cove.
To be straight with you, the next 16 days are a tough watch. We’re looking at a long, dry stretch with hardly any wave energy worth paddling for. The first real action doesn’t show up until well into the second week. For the most part, the swell is tiny, the period is short, and the energy is weak. It’s the kind of forecast that has you checking your wax stash and wondering if it’s gone tacky.
The window opens on Monday, July 21st, with a slight bump. A 2ft to 2ft swell from the west, with a period of 10 seconds, is a bit of a life sign. The combined energy kicks up to 56 on the Tuesday morning, and it’s clean under a light cross-onshore breeze. It’s not going to be epic, but it’s the only chance for a few fun, knee-high rollers. The water is much warmer than normal for this time of year, coming in at 66°, so you can leave the thick rubber at home.
The real standout, if you can call it that, arrives on Friday, July 25th. The morning sees a 3ft west swell, 8-second period, with a moderate cross-offshore wind from the east. The combined energy hits 141, and the conditions are clean. It’s the best we’ll see across the whole forecast. The wind is going to keep the surface tidy, and that little bit of size will be enough to make the cove work. It’s still a small wave, so beginners can have a crack, but it won’t be breaking with any real punch.
A bigger pulse shows up on Monday, July 27th, with a 6ft swell from the west-northwest, but the period is a short 7 seconds, and the wind is straight onshore. The energy is 321, but the quality is poor—lumpy, choppy, and messy. That one’s only for the die-hards with a beater board. The following Tuesday morning has a 5ft swell with the wind blowing straight onshore again, so it’s more of the same: raw power but no shape.
For the rest of the period, we’re looking at tiny, weak swell and cross-offshore winds that keep the surface clean, but there’s just nothing to ride. Thursday, July 24th afternoon shows a 5ft west swell, 8-second period, and the energy jumps to 317, but again, the wind is cross-onshore, making it scrappy. It’s not a total write-off for the whole month, but the consistent surf just isn’t here.
Rusty.
