Table - best surf conditions forecast for Wembury over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Wembury over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead. We’re looking at a solid run of poor surf conditions that just won’t let up. The opening days are a write-off, with tiny swell and messy wind. Gotta be patient.
Starting Saturday, 11 July, we’ve got a small 0.7 ft cross-off swell from the west, but it’s a short 8-second period and the wind is a fresh 19 mph from the ENE. The water is sitting at 64°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, a notable 4° anomaly. That’s nice for a dip, but not for a wave. The combined energy is weak (16) – nothing doing.
Sunday, 12 July, is even worse. A tiny 0.3 ft south swell with a 16-second period, but that’s not enough to do anything with, and the wind is howling at 28 mph from the ENE. Energy is a measly 6.
Monday, 13 July, brings more of the same – 0.3 ft south swell, a 19-second period, and a near-gale 31 mph from the ENE. That’s kite-surfing wind, not paddle-surfing. The whole first week looks like this: tiny waves, strong wind, and a lot of frustration. The best we get is a bit of a cleaner cross-off on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, but still with barely any swell to speak of.
Now, the second week starts to show a pulse, but it’s messy. By Friday, 24 July, we see a 2 ft west swell with a 9-second period, and the wind finally turns offshore from the NNW at 22 mph in the afternoon. That’s clean, but the wave energy is moderate (109). It’s a tease.
The standout, if you can call it that, is Saturday, 25 July. The swell jumps to 6 ft from the WSW, with a 9-second period. That’s solid, but the wind is a cross-shore from the west at 19 mph in the morning, turning cross-on from the SW in the afternoon. The combined energy is strong (486) in the morning, but the wind is going to chop it up. It’s not going to be pretty. This is really only for experienced surfers who know the break and can handle lumpy, cross-shore conditions. Crowds are often a problem here, so be prepared for company if you do paddle out.
Sunday, 26 July, keeps the swell around 3 ft to 4 ft with a 9-second period, but the wind is a fresh 19-22 mph from the WSW and SW, making it cross-on and choppy. Energy is moderate to strong (154-337), but the quality is going to be poor.
Overall, there’s no great surf in this 16-day window. The best bet is that Saturday morning, 25 July, for the biggest swell, but it’s a gamble with the wind. Keep an eye on it, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
