Table - best surf conditions forecast for Wembury over the next 16 days.
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let me level with you right off the bat: the next two and a bit weeks are going to be a flat, frustrating stretch for the Wembury (Wembury) area. There’s no surf to recommend, not a single standout session in the whole 16‑day window.
Let’s start with the bigger picture. Right through the middle of July, the combined wave energy barely nudges into double digits – we’re talking values like 20, 22, even just 6 or 3 on some days (weak energy). That’s the kind of reading that tells you the ocean’s basically asleep. Swell heights stay stuck around 0.3 ft to 1.0 ft the whole first week, with the odd brief blink to 2 ft or 3 ft, but those come with messy cross‑shore winds and short, weak periods – nothing a surfer would paddle out for. The water temperature is sitting right around the long‑term average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Wednesday morning the 8th sees a glassy surface and a tiny 1.0 ft W‑swell at a 10‑second period, but that combined energy is only 20. It’s a flat, poor surf condition – you’d be floating on a millpond. That pattern repeats through Thursday and Friday: glassy mornings with 1.0 ft swell, then the wind builds from the east at 12 to 19 mph, turning the sea into a lumpy mess. By Saturday the 11th, you’ve got a 19 mph ENE breeze and a 0.7 ft swell – honestly, that’s more a kite‑skiff breeze than a paddle session.
Sunday the 12th is one of those strange, contradictory days: a 25 mph cross‑offshore wind and a tiny 0.3 ft swell from the south with a 16‑second period. That long period makes it technically groundswell, but with that little height, it’s just a wash. The whole first week is a write‑off: every single session is scored as poor surf conditions.
We roll into the second week – Monday the 14th and Tuesday the 15th – and things actually get a tiny bit bigger, with swell heights up to 4 ft from the east, but the period drops to a pathetic 4 seconds. That’s short‑period wind chop, not rideable waves, and it’s slamming in with a strong east wind at 28 mph, making it ugly and clean only in the sense that cross‑offshore gusts are slicing the surface. The combined energy climbs to 79 and 80 (still only moderate), but nobody wants to surf that. The beach‑and‑reef setup at Wembury is more interesting for a kite‑surfer than a paddle surfer on those days.
From the 16th onward, it’s back to crumbs: 0.3 ft and 2 ft swells, mostly from the southwest or west, with glassy cross‑offshore winds but zero punch. The combined energy drops to 27, 24, even 2 or 3 by the 22nd. There’s a brief moment on Thursday morning the 23rd of July with a 0.7 ft W‑swell and a 12 mph onshore wind – still poor.
So here’s the blunt truth: there are no good surf options in this 16‑day window. That’s a long gap – essentially two full weeks of nothing worth paddling for. The good news is that Wembury is an inconsistent spot by nature, so a blank run like this isn’t out of the ordinary. Forecasts can change, but right now, save your energy and do something else until the ocean wakes up.
Rusty.
