Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at the Wembury surf outlook for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you—it's a tough read. This is a classic case of waiting for the ocean to wake up. We're looking at a long, dry spell before anything worth paddling out for shows up. The first solid recommendation doesn't come until Tuesday the 14th, so that's over a week of flat, poor conditions to sit through.
Let's get into it. The first week is a write-off. From Saturday the 4th all the way through to Monday the 13th, we're staring at swell heights barely breaking 1 foot, mostly coming from the west or WSW, with periods around 9-10 seconds. The combined energy is pathetic, barely dribbling into double digits (as low as 6). The wind is mostly cross-off or cross, which would normally keep it clean, but there's just no power in the water. It's poor surf conditions across the board. You'd be better off checking the tide pools. Honestly, for a spot like Wembury that's exposed to the SW, this is a frustratingly quiet stretch.
Now, around the 14th, things start to flicker. Tuesday the 14th morning shows a tiny 1-foot swell from the WSW, still with a 10-second period. The combined energy finally climbs to 42, and the wind is a light easterly breeze keeping things cross-off and clean. The wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." It's not gonna blow your mind, but it's the first sign of life. For a beginner-level point break that's inconsistent and often crowded, it's something to keep an eye on.
The real window to watch is the end of the second week. Thursday the 16th morning and afternoon sees a jump in size. We've got a swell building from the SSW, hitting 3-4 feet in the morning and pushing 4 feet in the afternoon. The period drops to a short 6 seconds, and the combined energy surges to 151 (moderate). The wind is a clean cross-off from the WNW—strong in the afternoon at 18 mph, but still cross-off. Still, the wave conditions are listed as "poor", so don't get too hyped.
Friday the 17th morning is where it gets interesting. The swell hits 4 feet from the SW, period still a short 7 seconds, but the combined energy jumps to 202 (strong). With a moderate WNW cross-off breeze at 12 mph, the conditions are clean. This is likely the standout of the entire forecast period. For a point break like Wembury, a SW swell with clean winds could shape up some fun lines, especially for the beginners it's known for. Keep in mind, this spot can get crowded, so get there early. The afternoon goes cross and gets choppy, so the morning session is the call.
Sunday the 19th morning brings a glassy calm with 3-foot from the SW, 7-second period. Combined energy is 83. It's "surfable but ordinary," and with glassy conditions, it could be a clean, mellow session. After that, the onshore kicks in and it's done.
So, bottom line: suffer through the first week-plus of flatness. Your best bet is the morning of Friday the 17th of July for the biggest, cleanest waves on offer. Sunday the 19th morning could be a close second for a glassy, smaller session. Stay patient.
