Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Wembury, and I won’t sugar-coat it: there is sweet f-all on the horizon for the next 16 days. Not a single good surf option to get excited about.
The only break we’re looking at is Wembury, a point break that works on a southwest swell. It’s a beginner-friendly spot, but it’s inconsistent, and the forecast proves it. Water temp is 64°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – feels pretty unusual.
Thursday the 2nd of July shows a bit of swell, 4ft from the WSW, but it’s a weak 6-second period with only 129 energy – not enough oomph. Wind is a moderate cross-off from the WNW at 15 mph, so it’s not clean. The data says poor surf conditions, and I can’t argue. Friday morning the 3rd is our only glimmer: glassy conditions with a light SW wind at 3 mph and a tiny 2ft swell, but the combined energy is just 85 – surfable but very ordinary.
After that? It’s downhill. Swell drops to 2ft and smaller, with energy falling from 53 down into single digits fast. We get some clean windows, like Wednesday the 8th morning with glassy conditions, and the 12th of July with a light offshore from the NNW. But the swell is gone – 0.7ft or 0.3ft, with energy rarely breaking 20. Even the long period stuff later, like 19 seconds on the 13th of July, comes with no height at all.
The bottom line is a combined dose of tiny swell and poor conditions. With waves under 2ft for almost the whole period, and wind often cross or cross-on, there’s no point suiting up. A blank run like this is more normal for the area, so don’t panic – forecasts can change, but for now it’s a hard strikeout.
If you really need to get wet, that Friday morning glass-off is your best bet for a flat-water float, but there ain’t any real waves to ride. Time to wait it out.
Rusty.
