The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here with the lowdown on Wembury for the next couple of weeks. I’m gonna level with you – this outlook is a tough one. We’re looking at a long, quiet stretch with very little to get excited about.
Things are dead from the jump. We’ve got a big dry spell of poor conditions starting Thursday the 20th of August that just keeps on rolling. The first few days are tiny and all messed up by the wind. You’re looking at combined energy numbers barely hitting 57 and 40 on Friday – that’s barely a pulse. The water’s sitting right around average for this time of year, nothing special.
The only real blip of swell on the radar hits on Monday the 31st of August. The combined energy jumps to a strong 920, but don’t let that fool you. The wind is a fresh cross-onshore at 18 mph, turning what could be a decent long-period groundswell (12 seconds) into a lumpy, choppy mess. At a point like Wembury, that long period could be magic, but not with that wind.
After that, it’s straight back to the doldrums. The first few days of September see the swell disappear again, with combined energy under 100. Your best bet would be the mornings of the 2nd and 4th of September when the wind goes light offshore, but the waves are barely 2 ft. Surfable, sure, but nothing to write home about. It’s a frustrating period for this spot.
Keep the faith, though. It won’t be flat forever.
Rusty.
