The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s get real about the next couple of weeks. This one's a tough sit. We’re looking at a long, quiet stretch for Wembury with almost nothing to get excited about for days.
Right now, the water is sitting at 66°, which is a good 5° warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a notable run of warmth, but you won’t be feeling it because there’s no surf to enjoy it in.
The first record shows Wednesday morning with a tiny 0.3ft southwest swell, but the wind is howling cross-off at 22 mph. Combined energy is a weak 26. It’s just a no-go. Thursday and Friday are more of the same – flat, tiny swells, and messy wind. Saturday the 18th of July gives us a moment of glassy conditions in the morning, but only 0.3ft of west swell with an energy reading of just 2 – you’re looking at a lake, not a surf break.
The real gap stretches from now all the way through to the morning of Friday the 25th of July. That’s about a week of absolutely nothing worth paddling out for. The swell finally starts to show a pulse on the 25th with a 0.7ft southwest swell, but it’s weak.
The one standout in this whole 16-day window comes late on the 29th of July. The Wednesday morning session sees a 3ft west swell with a combined energy of 80. It’s still not huge, but it’s the biggest we’ve got. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it’ll be a bit bumpy, but it’s the only time the numbers start to look like actual surf. The end of the month on the 30th shows a build to 4ft from the WSW, but the wind is onshore and choppy, dropping the quality.
Honestly, this is a blank run for Wembury. The spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and the next 16 days prove it. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board in the car and go for a walk.
Rusty.
