The Lowdown
Alright Rusty here again, same story, just the numbers for you lot that think in feet and degrees.
Flat spell for Wembury. First chance is Friday morning, the 21st of August. A little 0.5m (which is only about 2 feet) swell from the WSW, 9 seconds between waves. Combined energy is weak (57). It’s clean with a north wind blowing offshore at 20 km/h. After that, it’s all downhill. Friday afternoon and Saturday the 22nd are poor, with smaller swell and wind turning cross-off or cross-on. From Sunday the 23rd all the way through to Wednesday the 2nd of September, it’s just day after day of poor conditions. Swell stays tiny – mostly 0.2m to 0.3m (less than a foot). Wind is cross-shore or onshore, and it’s choppy.
There is a bit of a bump from the 26th to the 29th of August. Swell picks up to 1.7m (about 6 feet), but the wind is onshore, strong, and there’s thunderstorms around. Messy. The one session that might be worth a look is Friday morning, the 28th of August. Swell at 1.5m (about 5 feet) from the SW, 7 second period, and moderate energy (206). The wind goes cross-off from the NW, so it should be clean. Still, it’s short-period windswell, not ideal for a point break like Wembury. Water temp is about average for the time of year.
The standout is that Friday morning on the 28th – it’s the only time we get size and clean wind together. But that’s it. For nearly the whole 16-day stretch, from the 21st of August into early September, it’s mostly flat and poorly conditioned. If you’re a paddler, you’re sitting this one out. Maybe the kite crowd gets a look when the wind picks up, but for a surfboard, don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
