Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Wembury has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this is a lean stretch. The forecast is showing a real flat spell, so don’t expect any fireworks.
Looking at the whole picture, we’ve got a long run of tiny, weak swell and mostly messy or side-shore winds. The wave energy sits in the doldrums, barely registering (combined energy values between 7 and 57), which tells you there’s just no punch out there. For the first week, we’re looking at waves mostly between 0.7 ft and 2 ft, with periods around 9-10 seconds. That’s not going to do much for a point break like Wembury that needs a decent swell to really work. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Saturday the 4th of July kicks things off with a 2 ft swell from the west, but it’s a cross-off wind from the WNW at 12 mph, so it’s clean but tiny. Wave energy is weak at 57. Honestly, it’s a longboard or maybe a SUP session if you’re desperate for a paddle. That theme carries on through Sunday and Monday – same story, small, clean but small. By Monday afternoon, the swell drops to 1.0 ft and the wind swings cross-shore, making it a bit choppy.
Tuesday the 7th of July is more of the same: morning glass with 1.0 ft from the west, energy down to 17. It’s clean, but you’ll be hunting for anything to ride.
We hit a real low point from Wednesday the 8th through to Friday the 10th – the swell barely hits 0.7 ft, and the wind goes cross-on or strong cross-shore. Friday afternoon actually shows a 2 ft spike, but it’s from the east with only a 3-second period, which is just wind chop and messy with a 25 mph cross-wind. That’s closer to a kite-surfing day than a paddle-surfing one. The energy jumps up to 23 there, but it’s all chop and no form.
Saturday the 11th of July sees a 3 ft swell from the ESE with a 4-second period – again, short-period wind swell – and a cross-on breeze. Wave energy hits 33, but it’s lumpy. Not great.
From Sunday the 12th of July onwards, we’re into a prolonged flat spell. The swell hovers around 0.7 ft to 1.0 ft for the next week. There are some clean windows with cross-off winds from the NW, especially on the 12th afternoon (2 ft, energy 46) and the 13th, 14th, and 15th mornings. But that 2 ft on the 12th is a short 6-second period, so it’s pretty weak. The energy on those days is low (between 22 and 46), and the surf quality is consistently marked as poor. Even when it’s clean, there’s just not enough height to make Wembury’s point work properly.
The last few days (16th through 19th of July) keep the same pattern: tiny waves, mostly cross-shore or cross-off winds, and energy levels down in the teens. The 19th shows a 0.3 ft swell from the south with a very long 19-second period – that’s a proper groundswell, but it’s a ripple, and it’s cross-on. Not worth the drive.
The standout? There really isn’t one across this whole 16-day window. The best you could hope for is a glassy, clean morning with 1.0 ft to 2 ft of weak swell, like on the 5th of July or the 14th of July. For a dedicated longboarder or a beginner just wanting to get wet, those mornings might offer a tiny little ride, but for anyone looking for proper surf, this is a write-off. Wembury is inconsistent at the best of times, and this forecast is a classic example of a blank run for this area. We just have to wait for the next system to roll in.
Rusty.
