Table - best surf conditions forecast for Oxwich Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next 16 days look pretty grim for a proper paddle. We’ve got a few flickers, but nothing that’s going to get your heart really racing.
The main spot we’re looking at is Oxwich Point, a sheltered reef break that’s pretty consistent for intermediates. Right now, the water is sitting at 68°, which is a whopping 9° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s very unusual, and honestly, a bit eerie.
For the first week and a half, it’s a tough watch. Monday the 13th kicks off with a weak 3ft from the east, but a cross-onshore breeze at 16 mph makes it choppy and messy. The combined energy is a measly 52 (weak), so there’s just no push. The rest of that week into the next is tiny, with waves barely reaching 1ft, plagued by onshore or cross-onshore winds. Even when we get a few clean spells with offshore or glassy conditions on the 17th, the swell is just too small to do anything with. You’ll be floating around waiting for a ripple.
The first real standout, but it’s a late one, shows up on Friday the 24th. The afternoon brings a sudden jump in size to 5ft from the WSW. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’ll be a bit fat and jumbled, but the combined energy jumps to a moderate 173. The wind is a cross-offshore breeze at 13 mph, so it’ll be clean. This is the best wave of the whole run, but it’s a one-off and it’s a long way off. The Saturday the 25th afternoon offers a tiny 2ft swell with glassy conditions, but it’s small and weak, with low energy (57). The next hopeful sign is over a week later on Monday the 27th evening, but the swell is practically non-existent.
Honestly, for the majority of this 16-day window, the surf is just flat or blown out. The only real shot is that Friday the 24th afternoon. If you’re desperate, you’ll be there. Otherwise, keep the board in the bag.
Rusty.
