Table - best surf conditions forecast for Westward Ho over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s coming up for Westward Ho. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a lean run for most of the outlook. There’s a long stretch with almost nothing to get excited about, but there is a late window that could deliver for the brave.
First thing you need to know: the water’s sitting at 64°, which is a solid 4° warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s much warmer than normal – noticeable when you’re sitting on your board waiting.
Now, from the start, Sunday the 12th through to the end of the day on Saturday the 18th, it’s basically flat. We’re talking tiny dribbles of swell, mostly around 0.3ft to 1ft, and while the wind is offshore or clean on some mornings, there’s just no energy to work with. The combined swell energy numbers – like 15, 34, 27 – are all well under 100, which tells you it’s weak stuff. Not worth paddling out for.
Sunday the 19th morning gives us a little flicker: 3ft from the NNW with a gentle offshore breeze from the east. That’s clean, but the period is only 5 seconds – short period wind swell, so it’ll be soft and crumbly. Combined energy is 52 – still weak. Not a standout, just a tease.
The next several days fall back into that same poor pattern. Choppy cross-onshore winds, tiny surf, nothing doing. The real action, if you can call it that, holds off until the last few days.
Then we get to Sunday the 26th. Now we’re talking. Swell pushes up to 4ft from the WSW on the morning, with moderate cross-onshore wind, and the combined energy jumps to 161 – that’s moderate energy. The afternoon builds to 5ft from the WSW, with the energy hitting 277. It’s still a bit lumpy, but this is the first time there’s enough push to get a proper wave under you.
But the real standout – and I’m calling it the only one worth planning for – is Monday morning, the 27th. The swell hits 8ft from the WSW, period stretches out to 10 seconds, and the combined energy is massive at 1194. That’s strong energy. The wind is light offshore from the WNW, which means clean faces. Now, at 8ft, this is expert territory – not a day for learners. The longer period (10 seconds) will give the waves some proper shape and a bit of breathing room between sets, but at a beach break like Westward Ho, that long-period groundswell can make things a bit walled. Still, if you’ve got the skills, Monday morning the 27th looks like the genuine best on offer. The afternoon is similar in size but bumps up to a cross-onshore wind and drops off, so get out early.
So to sum it up: a long, flat start, a few weak days mid-window, then one big punch of powerful, clean swell right at the end. Keep your eyes on that Monday the 27th.
Rusty.
