Table - best surf conditions forecast for Westward Ho over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it’s a pretty grim stretch ahead. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple for most of the period. The first real shot of surf doesn’t show up until the morning of Thursday, July 17th, and even then, it’s nothing to write home about.
The water at Westward Ho is 63°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year.
We start off with a few mornings of clean, offshore wind, but the swell is just too small to do anything with. Friday morning, July 10th, has a tiny 2ft west swell with a short 9-second period, and clean easterly wind. The combined energy is a weak 79, so you’d be scratching for anything rideable. Don’t bother.
The rest of the first week and into the second is a total write-off. From Saturday, July 12th, right through to Wednesday, July 16th, you’re looking at swell heights below 1ft, even with some offshore winds. It’s a genuine flat spell.
The first tiny glimmer of hope arrives on Thursday morning, July 17th. We get a 3ft swell from the WNW, but the period is a shocking 5 seconds. The wind is a cross-on from the NW at 9 mph, and the combined energy is only 65. It’s lumpy, weak, and not worth paddling out for.
Saturday, July 18th, sees a jump in energy. The morning brings a 4ft west swell with a 9-second period, and the combined energy hits 260 (moderate). But the wind is a cross-on from the NNW at 12 mph, making it choppy. The afternoon gets a bit punchier with a 5ft NW swell, but the period drops to 6 seconds and the wind goes cross-on at 16 mph. It’s messy and raw. This is the only period where the swell gets over 5ft, but the conditions are so poor it’s a miss for everyone.
The last half of the second week, from Sunday, July 20th, through to Friday, July 24th, fades back into small, onshore slop. Swells stay under 4ft, periods are short, and the wind is mostly cross-on or onshore. The best of a bad lot might be Monday morning, July 20th, with a 4ft WNW swell, a 7-second period, and a cross-shore north wind at 9 mph. The combined energy is 121 (moderate), but it’s still a cross-shore bump with slight chop. Not a standout.
Honestly, there’s no standout session here. The whole 16-day window is a bust. The surf just isn’t there, and when it does show a pulse, the wind ruins it. Save your energy and wax for another time.
Rusty.
