The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Westward Ho over the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it's a grim run for the foreseeable future. There isn't a single session that I'd paddle out for in this whole 16-day outlook. The first real sniff of any rideable surf isn't until the afternoon of Thursday the 29th of August, and even that's a messy one. Before that, we've got a long, flat stretch with barely a ripple.
The water temp is a real head-scratcher, though. When we finally do see some swell around the 20th, it's sitting at 66°, which is a whopping 4° warmer than normal for this time of year. It feels like a bath out there, but unfortunately, that's the only nice thing I can say.
That first pulse on the 29th of August morning bumps up to a 7ft west-northwest swell with a short, weak 8-second period. The energy's there, reading 592, but it's all for nothing with that moderate cross-onshore wind chopping it to bits. It's going to be lumpy and messy, not to mention the 7ft is getting into expert-only territory and the wind is just going to make it a washing machine. For the average punter, that's a kite-surfing day, not a paddle-surfing day.
The run continues poor. A solid pulse on the 3rd of September afternoon shows 6ft from the west-southwest, with a strong cross-onshore wind and a messy, stormy feel. The energy is there at 427, but it's just not surfable.
The tail end of the forecast, the 4th of September morning, shows a cleaner 4ft west swell with a slightly better 9-second period. The wind is a gentle cross-shore, so the texture might be okay, but with an energy of 253, it's a moderate, weak swell and the quality is still rated as poor.
Honestly, save your energy. Leave the boards in the van for this one. The forecasts can change, but right now, it's a solid blank.
Rusty.
