Table - best surf conditions forecast for Towan over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you – for the next couple of weeks around Towan, it's a proper flat spell with barely a ripple to get excited about. We're looking at a long stretch of tiny, messy waves where the combined swell energy is weak, often under 100, and the wind is mostly cross or cross-on, making it tough to find anything clean. The best bet is way down the track, and even then it's nothing to write home about.
We start off with Thursday morning, July 9th, with a small 3ft swell from the WNW, but the wind is a light cross-onshore NNE breeze at 6 mph, and the wave comment says "poor surf conditions." The combined energy is only 126, so it's weak. That pattern just keeps rolling – Friday the 10th, Saturday the 11th, all the way through to Wednesday the 23rd, the swell is mostly under 3ft, often tiny, and the wind is constantly cross-on or cross-shore, making it choppy and messy. There are a few moments where the wind goes cross-off on the 15th and 16th, but the swell is a pathetic 1ft, so it's not worth paddling out for. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
The only real standout comes at the very end of the forecast period, on Friday morning, July 24th. The swell bumps up to 6ft from the WNW, with a combined energy of 242, which is a moderate pulse. The period is short at 6 seconds, so it's windswell, not groundswell, but the wind? It's glassy. A total flat calm. The wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," but with that glassy surface, the cleanest waves of the entire period will be on offer. For a spot sheltered from the W, it's the only time you'll get a clean ride. The swell direction is W, which matches the optimum.
So, the honest truth is that for the next two weeks, there's hardly a wave to surf. But if you're desperate, you've got that Friday morning, July 24th, at Towan. It's a beginner-friendly beach and harbour setup, and it's fairly consistent when there's swell, but crowds are often an issue. For this one, with glassy conditions, it'll be worth the paddle. Just don't expect perfection from the swell itself.
Rusty.
