Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Towan over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a bit of a flat spell ahead. A few small pulses of swell try to push in, but the waves are tiny, the winds are often messy, and there’s not a single day that’s really worth paddling out for. The whole 16-day outlook is filled with “poor surf conditions,” so don’t get your hopes up. There are no standout days, no sneaky morning glass-off that’s going to save the week. The swell energy is weak across the board—most days sit under 100 (for example, a combined energy of just 97 on Monday afternoon), and even when it creeps into the low 100s or 130s, the swell height is stuck around 2 ft to 3 ft and the wind is cross or cross-onshore, ruining any chance of clean faces.
The first proper bit of surfable energy might be Wednesday morning, July 8th. There’s a tiny 2 ft swell from the west with a 9-second period, and the wind goes glassy—totally still—so Towan could look pretty, but the waves are just too small to ride properly. The water temp is sitting at 61°, which is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual.
Thursday July 9th morning has the biggest combined energy in the whole stretch at 126, with a 3 ft WNW swell and a 10-second period, and a light NNE onshore breeze that’s not ideal but won’t completely trash it. Even then, the wave comment is “poor surf conditions.” Later in the second week, around Sunday July 19th morning, there’s another small spike in energy (137) with 2 ft west swell at 13 seconds, but the wind is ESE 16 mph cross-shore making it choppy and lumpy. Not worth the effort.
Most of the rest of the week is dominated by wind from the east and northeast, often strong, with tiny windswell that’s barely breaking. Wednesday July 15th afternoon only has a combined energy of 27. The final few days, July 21st and 22nd, see a little cleaner cross-off wind from the west, but the swell drops to 1 ft–2 ft. That’s knee high at best.
Bottom line: if you’re really keen, Wednesday morning July 8th is the cleanest window, but it’s still barely surfable. Otherwise, it’s a long dry spell. Towan is a fairly consistent little beginner wave, but this run of nothing is just one of those stretches. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board in the car.
