The Lowdown
Alright, folks. Rusty here. Let’s break down what we’ve got on the local stretch over the next 16 days.
The outlook is a rough one, I’m not gonna lie. There’s no good surf on offer for the entire period. The first week is a total washout with tiny waves and bad wind. For the first few days, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is barely a ripple.
We’re looking at Towan mostly. It’s a beach/harbour break that’s shielded from the west. The water temp is about 65°F, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.
The first real pulse of energy comes on Sunday, July 26th. The morning shows a 5ft swell from the west, but with a short 6-second period and a messy cross-shore wind at 16 mph. The combined energy is moderate at 206, but the surf quality is listed as poor. The afternoon gets worse, with the swell hitting 6ft and a 19 mph cross-shore wind making it lumpy. Not a good look.
Monday, July 27th brings a bit more size with 6ft swell from the west-northwest, but again, it’s a short period of 7 seconds and a fresh cross-onshore wind. The energy is strong at 369 and 348 across the day, but with that wind, it’s a choppy, messy mess. This is more of a kite-surf setup than a paddle session.
After that, the swell drops back to under 4ft and the wind stays uncooperative. There’s a brief window of clean surf on July 30th and 31st with cross-offshore winds, but the swell is a tiny 2ft with a 9-second period. The energy is weak, in the double digits. It’s clean, but barely enough to push you along.
The rest of the run into early August is more of the same: small, messy, and not worth the effort. The only possible standout is the Sunday, July 26th morning session for the size, but the wind ruins it. Save your energy, folks.
Rusty.
