Table - best surf conditions forecast for Towan over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Towan.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you – it’s a grim stretch ahead. We’re looking at a solid 13-day drought of proper surf. The first real pulse of energy doesn’t show up until late in the window, and even then it’s a bit of a mixed bag. For the first week and a half, the swell is tiny, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the water’s just got that lumpy, gutless feel. There are a few moments where the wind eases, but with wave heights barely scraping 3ft and periods short, it’s not worth paddling out for.
The only light at the end of the tunnel lands on Sunday, 26 July. The morning kicks off with a clean 4ft swell from the WSW, pushed by a fresh cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is moderate (107), and the waves are staying clean. The afternoon builds a little more – 4ft from the west, still clean, with energy jumping up to 184. It’s not a world-beater, but after two weeks of nothing, it’ll feel like a gift.
But the real standout – and the only one worth setting your alarm for – is Monday, 27 July. This is a serious step up. We’ve got a 8ft swell from the west on Monday morning, with a strong offshore wind of 25 mph. The wave energy is strong (649), and the condition is clean. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there. This is a powerful, clean-looking swell. Heads up though – at this size, it’s not for the groms or beginners. This is for the crew who know what they’re doing. The offshore wind is strong, making paddling in a bit of a mission, but the reward will be some proper waves. The afternoon pushes it to 8ft and 948 energy, still clean and strong offshore.
Tuesday, 28 July, still has some lingering size – 8ft from the WNW with an 11-second period, which is a nice long groundswell. The wind is cross-offshore and moderate, and the energy is very strong (1340). The period is long enough to handle the beach break setup, but it might be a bit straight for the banks. Still, for the experienced surfer, this is the best of the run.
So, to wrap it up: forget the first two weeks. The only days with any real promise are Sunday, 26 July for a clean, fun size, and Monday, 27 July for the big, clean, powerful stuff. The crowds at Towan are often around, so expect company on those days.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on the charts.
Rusty.
