Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tenby (South Beach) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a good look at what’s coming up for Tenby (South Beach).
Truth is, for the next couple of weeks, we're looking at a real flat spell. The energy just isn't there. Wave heights barely tickle 2ft for the first week, and most of the time it’s sitting below that. The combined swell energy values are all under 100 (weak), and the wave comments tell the story of consistently poor surf conditions. It’s not a great run for a wave-starved surfer.
That said, Tenby (South Beach) is a sheltered spot, and it’s fairly consistent, so sometimes you just have to wait for the right window. There are a few sessions where the wind cleans up, like Thursday morning (9th July) with glassy conditions, but the swell is only 1ft from the west with a 10-second period. That tiny waist-high slop is all we get. The standout in this whole period appears right at the end.
The best chance looks like Wednesday 22nd July. Now we see a pulse of energy: 5ft of west-southwest swell, period around 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 244 (moderate). That’s about head-high and a bit more push. Winds are a cross-offshore from the west-northwest at 19 mph, which will keep the surface clean. It’s just about the only time there’s enough size to get a decent ride. Since it’s over two weeks away, take the accuracy with a pinch of salt, but it’s the one window that shines.
For the rest? The weekend of the 12th–13th July sees messy cross-onshore winds and short-period east swell, which won’t do much. There’s a chance for a glassy surf on the morning of Thursday 16th July but only 0.6ft on offer, so it’s a lake.
A couple of days in the second week have moderate offshore winds, some from the northwest, but the swell is just too small (1ft). Those are days for a longboard if you're desperate, but honestly, there’s nothing to get excited about.
The water temperature came in at 64°F on Tuesday afternoon (7th July), which is 5°F above normal – that’s much warmer than usual for this time of year, so you can leave the thicker wetsuit at home.
So, wrap it up. It’s mostly a flat waste of wax for the next two weeks. The one chance is 22nd July when the swell finally shows up with some head-high waves and clean conditions. Worth keeping an eye on as it gets closer.
Stay stoked, or at least patient.
