The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this 16-day outlook for Porth Ceriad is a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, small, or just plain poor conditions ahead. The first proper surf doesn’t even show up on the radar until the second week, and even then it’s nothing to get excited about.
Right now, we’re looking at a dry spell. From Monday the 13th right through to the end of the first week, there’s practically nothing. The swell is tiny – we’re talking 0.3ft to 0.7ft at best, with periods all over the shop. The combined wave energy is pitiful, barely reaching double digits (1 to 14). It’s clean, sure, with some offshore and glassy moments, but you can’t surf what isn’t there. The water temperature is a whopping 66°F, which is about 7°F warmer than average for this time of year – that’s seriously unusual and feels like a warm bath, but it won’t help the waves.
We’ve got a gap of about a week with no real surf on offer. It’s not until Tuesday the 21st that we see a tiny pulse, and even then it’s marginal. The morning of the 21st is glassy with a 0.3ft swell from the west, but it’s weak. The afternoon sees a slight bump to 1ft from the northwest, with a period of just 3 seconds – that’s short-period wind slop, not groundswell. The energy is still rock bottom (4). It’s clean, but it’s not going to give you a proper ride.
The only period that might get your attention is the very end of the outlook, around Sunday the 26th. The morning shows a 2ft swell from the west-southwest, with a 4-second period. The combined energy finally gets into the low double digits (32), which is still weak, but it’s the most we’ve seen. The problem? The wind is howling onshore from the south-southwest at 19 mph. That’s going to chop it up and make it messy. For a beginner spot like Porth Ceriad, that’s not going to be a pleasant session. The afternoon stays lumpy and cross-onshore.
Honestly, there’s no standout session here. The best of a bad bunch might be the morning of the 21st, with that glassy surface, but the swell is just too small. For experts, there’s nothing to work with. For beginners, there’s nothing to learn on. This setup, with the onshore wind and weak swell, looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s not unusual when the forecasts are this quiet.
Rusty.
