The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee, surfers. Rusty here, and I gotta level with you. The outlook for the next couple of weeks is a real tough one. We're looking at a long, dry spell with hardly any waves worth paddling for.
The first real recommendation isn't until Thursday morning, the 20th of August, over at Porth Ceriad. Even then, it's a bit of a struggle. The water is feeling *much warmer than normal* for this time of year (67°F with a 6°F anomaly), so the ocean's got a tropical feel, but no swell to back it up. The surf is small and the energy is weak (combined energy of all swells directed here is 44), with a 2ft swell from the SW. The wind is offshore from the NNW, which is a major positive, keeping the surface clean. But honestly, with that tiny swell, it's a knee-slapper and not much more.
The whole rest of the forecast period is a write-off. Every single day listed is described as "poor surf conditions" with a score of zero. We’re talking about a gap of over two weeks where there’s no real surf to be had. The swell never gets above 3ft, and even that little bump comes with strong cross or onshore winds, creating lumpy, choppy conditions. The 21st through the 25th is all 0.3ft of leftover energy, and while the winds go offshore, there’s just no wave to ride.
There is a slight uptick in energy around the 31st of August, with a 2ft SW swell and a period of 9 seconds, but it’s paired with a fresh cross-offshore breeze, which cleans it up a bit. Still, it's a 2ft wave. The 1st of September brings a bit more height (3ft), but it's cross-shore and lumpy again. The period on the 2nd of September jumps to 16 seconds, which is a very long period groundswell, but the swell height is only 0.3ft from the W. It's a sign of deep water energy, but it's not breaking in any meaningful way.
To be brutally honest, for the next 16 days, the gear is gonna stay dry. The breaks are fairly consistent around here, so it won't stay this flat forever, but for this window, it's a total blank. The only thing that might be worth a look is if you're into kite surfing, because those strong cross-shore winds on the bigger days (like the 27th and 29th) could be fun for that, but for a paddle surfer? Leave it.
Rusty.
