Table - best surf conditions forecast for Porth Ceriad over the next 16 days.
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – for a big chunk of this 16-day window, Porth Ceriad is flat as a pancake, and the swell that does show up in the second week is pretty ordinary. Don’t get your hopes up too early.
We’ve got a long, dry stretch from Friday the 10th right through until late on Monday the 20th. That’s over a week of nothing worth paddling out for – tiny 0.3ft wobbles and glassy conditions, but no push at all. It’s frustrating, but it happens here.
The real story starts to shift on Tuesday the 21st of July. Finally, some life. We see a southwest groundswell building, with a period of 6 seconds. It’s not long-period magic, but it’s something. Tuesday morning you’ll find clean 4ft waves with light offshore winds from the NNW making for some decent shape. The combined energy is weak at 41, but it’s better than the previous week. By Tuesday afternoon, it bumps up to 5ft, still from the SW, and clean with a moderate offshore wind. The energy climbs to 136 – that’s moderate wave energy, and much more interesting. This is potentially the best window for a beginner session, as the size is still user-friendly. The swell direction (SW) lines up nicely with the optimum for Porth Ceriad. Keep in mind that crowd levels can be an issue here, so you might have some company.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is a standout. We’ve got glassy conditions with a 4ft WSW swell, light easterly winds, and moderate combined energy of 129. The water temperature is sitting at 64°, which is much warmer than normal – over 3° warmer than average for this time of year, so you might not need the thick wetsuit. That’s a rare treat.
After Wednesday, it fades. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th see onshore winds and weaker, smaller waves – poor conditions with cross-onshore or onshore flow. By the weekend of the 25th and 26th, we’ve got fresh onshore winds up to 22 mph making for lumpy, choppy surf with weak energy (78 and 69). Honestly, at that point the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Overall, your best bet is Tuesday the 21st afternoon through Wednesday the 22nd morning – clean, beginner-friendly swell at Porth Ceriad. After that, it’s back to flat or ugly.
Rusty.
