The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. It’s your local surf reporter Rusty, and I’ve got the outlook for the next stretch.
Honestly, I’m looking at this and it’s a tough one. To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks at Porth Ceriad are looking pretty flat for the most part. There’s a real gap here with no surf to speak of from the start of the period all the way through to the end of July. You’re looking at a solid 10 to 12 days where the swell just isn’t showing up. It’s frustrating, I know.
The first real sign of life doesn’t come until late in the piece. On the morning of the 27th of July, we finally see something push through. The combined energy of all swells directed here gets up to 114 (moderate energy), with a 4 ft swell coming from the southwest, but it’s a short period of 6 seconds. That’s not going to give you much shape. The wind is cross-shore at 12 mph, so it’s going to be a bit lumpy. The overall score is a zero, so conditions are still messy. It’s not exactly what you’re dreaming of.
Then, on the 28th of July, Tuesday afternoon, things get a little interesting. The wind swings light from the northwest at 6 mph, going cross-offshore, which should clean things up nicely. The swell hangs around 4 ft from the southwest, but with that short 5-second period, it’s going to be a bit weak. The combined energy drops to 74 (weak energy). It’s surfable, but only just. The score is a 1 out of 10.
The only real event to keep an eye on hits on the 30th of July, Thursday morning. The swell bumps up to 6 ft from the southwest with a 6-second period and the combined energy climbs to 184 (moderate energy). That’s the biggest of the period. But here’s the kicker: the wind is cross-onshore from the southwest at 9 mph, and the water is going to be a bit choppy. The score is still a zero. At 6 ft, it’s getting into the zone where beginners might start to struggle, but the poor conditions mean it’s not really for anyone.
The water temperature is a standout here. It’s sitting at 66°F, which is a massive 7° warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s very unusual. You could almost go without a wetsuit, but the surf just isn’t cooperating.
To be honest, there’s no standout session in this entire run. If you’re desperate for a paddle on the 28th afternoon, you might find a clean but small wave, but it’s really just a board float. The rest of the window is a write-off. Hang in there, the forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a real quiet spell.
