Table - best surf conditions forecast for Porth Ceriad over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Porth Ceriad. I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a tough stretch lately. We’ve had hardly a ripple for the best part of two weeks. The water’s been sitting at a warm 65°F on the 12th, a full 7°F warmer than usual – that’s very unusual and feels like you’re in the tropics, not here. But the waves? Basically nothing. Just flat, clean conditions with tiny 0.3ft leftovers.
That flat spell runs all the way from the 12th through to the morning of the 23rd. We’re talking about a gap of eleven days with no real surf. There’s a few windows of glassy mornings, like Thursday the 16th morning with that glassy SSE breeze, or Friday the 17th with another glassy start and a hint of 1ft from the SW. But it’s not enough to get excited about. Even the 22nd only offers up a weak 2ft.
Things start to look a bit more interesting on Thursday the 23rd. We finally get a pulse of swell – 4ft from the west, with a clean offshore N wind. The combined energy is only showing 48, so it’s still weak, but it’s surfable. It’s ordinary, but it’s better than nothing.
The real standout, and the only one I want to talk about, is Monday the 27th. That’s the one. Early morning, we see a solid 8ft of SW groundswell, period at 9 seconds. That’s not a huge period, but the energy is strong at 889. The wind is a light offshore from the NNW, which will keep things clean. The afternoon drops to a still very surfable 7ft, with energy at 639 and the same offshore flow. This is powerful surf, in the 6ft to 8ft range, so it’s expert territory. Beginners should sit this one out. The direction is SW, right in the optimum for this spot. After over a week of nothing, this is the window to clear your diary for. It’s a long way out, so don’t book the day off yet, but keep a very close eye on it.
Before we get there, Sunday the 26th might offer a bit of a warm-up with 4ft to 5ft, but the wind is cross or cross-onshore, so it’s going to be lumpy and choppy. Not worth rushing for.
So, in short: a painful flat spell, then one very promising day for the experts on the 27th. Fingers crossed it holds.
Rusty.
