The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and settle in, because this one’s a bit of a waiting game. I’m looking at the next 16 days for Porth Ceriad, and honestly, the first week and a half is a flat spell. There’s a solid gap from Tuesday the 14th through to about Friday the 24th where you’re looking at mostly tiny dribbles of 0.3ft to 1ft – not enough to get excited about. The wind is often offshore and clean, and you’ll get some glassy mornings, but there’s just no swell to work with. It’s a classic summer lull.
Then things start to stir. The weekend of the 25th and 26th sees a little bump. Saturday morning the 25th, you’ve got a little 1ft swell from the SW. It’s not much, but the wind is a gentle offshore breeze from the N at 9 mph, so it’ll be clean. The combined energy is still weak at 15, so it’s for the longboard or a funboard if you’re desperate. Sunday the 26th morning is where it gets a bit more interesting – we’re up to 3ft from the SW, with a short period of 5 seconds. The wind is cross-offshore from the NW at 16 mph, so it’ll be clean but a bit bumpy. The energy jumps to 46, which is still weak but at least there’s something to push around.
The real standout, and the only one I’d call the best of the bunch, is Monday the 27th morning. Swell pushes to 3ft from the W, still a short period of 5 seconds, but the combined energy is moderate at 85. The wind is cross-off from the WNW at 22 mph, which is a fresh breeze, but it keeps the surf clean. This is the biggest swell in the window and the best odds for a wave. It’s not huge, but it’s the most energy we see. Porth Ceriad is an exposed, fairly consistent beginner-friendly spot, so it’s a good option for a fun session, but it’s likely to be crowded – the guidance says "often" busy. Water temp is a very unusual 66°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year.
After that, it tails off again. Tuesday the 28th morning is glassy but tiny at 1ft, and by Wednesday the 29th, the wind turns onshore and messy, so the window closes.
So, bottom line: if you’re itching to get wet, aim for Sunday the 26th morning for a longboard cruise, or go all-in on Monday the 27th morning for the best wave of the fortnight. The rest is a flat, clean, and frustrating wait.
Rusty.
