Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be honest – it’s a slow start, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel if you can hang in there.
We’re looking at a long, flat spell to kick things off. From Monday the 6th of July right through to at least Thursday the 16th of July, it’s basically a no-go. We’ve got tiny little bumps of swell, but the wave report says it all: poor surf conditions. Even when the wind is glassy or blowing offshore, there’s just no energy in the water to make it worth the paddle. The combined swell energy is in the single digits or very low double digits (like 16 for the best of it). It’s a proper dry spell.
Then, things finally start to show some life. On Friday the 17th of July in the morning, we see a little pulse. The swell comes up to 3ft from the SW, with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 94. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the NE. It’s described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions” – so, small and a bit weak, but at least you can get wet.
It builds through the weekend, but the real standout arrives on Monday the 20th of July. This is the one to circle on the calendar. Porth Ceriad wakes up with a solid 6ft swell from the WSW, period around 7 seconds. The combined swell energy jumps to a strong 302, which is a serious step up in power. The wind is offshore from the N in the morning, a light breeze, keeping it clean. This is your best chance for a proper session – a decent sized, clean, offshore day at an exposed break. The afternoon stays solid at 5ft and 243 energy with a moderate offshore breeze.
Then Tuesday the 21st of July looks even cleaner. The morning is absolutely glassy with no wind and a solid 6ft swell from the WSW, energy at 200. That is prime, clean surf. The water temp is sitting at 63°F, which is a notable 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a bonus – you might get away with a spring suit.
Overall, it’s a tough two weeks for surf. You’ve got over a week of nothing, then a couple of ordinary days, and then a two-day window around the 20th and 21st that looks genuinely solid. If you can wait for that Monday, it’ll be worth it.
Rusty.
