The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gonna be honest with you straight up, the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for Porth Ceriad. We've got a real dry spell on our hands, so let's get into it.
Right from the start, Wednesday the 19th through to the end of August, the surf is basically non-existent. We're talking tiny, weak waves, mostly under 0.3 ft, with a few knee-high blips that have shocking 4-second periods. The wind is a mess – cross-shore, onshore, and strong – and the combined energy of all swells is just pathetic, barely reaching double digits (27).
This flat spell runs all the way through to the end of the month. There's a tiny pulse of 2 ft on the 25th, but with a 4-second period and cross-onshore wind, it's a complete write-off.
Then, on the 30th, we see a bit of a bump, but it's still not surfable. The swell picks up to 5 ft on Sunday morning with a 6-second period, and the wind is clean cross-offshore. However, the energy is still low (186) and the score is a zero. It's just not coming together. The afternoon of the 30th sees 7 ft (374 energy) but still a 7-second period, which is too short and lumpy to be any good.
Finally, on the very last day of the forecast, Monday the 31st of August, we get our only real blip of potential. The morning sees a 6 ft swell from the WSW with a 9-second period and clean cross-offshore winds. The energy jumps to 549, which is a solid pulse. This is a bigger swell, over 5 ft, so it's not for beginners, and with a period under 11 seconds, it's not a classic groundswell. But it's the only window where the conditions are even close to being worth a look. The afternoon of the 31st gets messy again with strong cross-shore winds. After that, it's back to small, weak, and messy for the first couple of days of September.
For a break that's exposed and fairly consistent, this is a really tough run. The water temp is about what you'd expect for this time of year. Honestly, with sustained onshore and cross-shore winds and a lot of lumpy, choppy conditions, the setup here looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of this period.
If you're desperate, keep an eye on the morning of the 31st of August, but don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
