Table - best surf conditions forecast for Putsborough over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, let’s take a look at what’s on the cards for Putsborough. I’ll be honest with you, the next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, poor conditions before things finally start to look up. The standout window is definitely the later part of the period, but we’ve got to get through the quiet spell first.
Right now, we’re looking at a big gap. From Saturday the 11th right through to the morning of Tuesday the 21st, the surf is basically non-existent. You’ll see tiny waves, often under 2ft, with weak energy and a lot of cross-shore or onshore wind. It’s just not worth paddling out for. The water temperature is sitting at 64°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least a dip in the sea won’t be freezing, but the waves just aren’t there.
The first real sign of life comes on Tuesday the 21st afternoon. The swell picks up a bit, around 2ft from the W, with a period of 9 seconds and combined energy hitting 133. It’s still a bit messy with a cross-shore breeze, but it’s a step up from the flatness. Wednesday morning the 22nd is the first time we get a “surfable” call. The swell is 2ft from the W, period at 9 seconds, and with a clean cross-offshore breeze from the ENE. The energy is still low at 78, but it’s clean and ridable. This is a good one for the beginners to get a few small, clean waves.
But the real standout, the one you’ve been waiting for, is Sunday the 26th. The morning session is where it’s at. We’ve got a solid 6ft swell from the W, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is a solid 279, so there’s some proper oomph behind it. The wind is offshore from the ESE, meaning clean, groomed faces. Now, the period is a bit short, so it won’t be the most powerful groundswell, but for Putsborough, that’s a good size. It’s over 5ft, so it’s probably a bit much for total beginners, but it’s not over the 8ft expert-only mark, so it’s a good step-up for intermediate crew. The afternoon session drops to 5ft with a cross-offshore wind, but it’s still decent. The morning is the pick.
So, to sum it up: the first week and a half is a write-off. Focus on Wednesday the 22nd for a clean, small wave session, and get on the Sunday the 26th morning for the best waves of the whole forecast. The offshore wind on that Sunday will make it a special one.
