Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, this is a bit of a quiet stretch for Putsborough. We’re looking at a long run of tiny, weak surf that just isn't going to get you excited. For the first week and a half, from Sunday the 5th of July right through to about Friday the 17th of July, it’s pretty much all ankle-biters. Swell heights hover between 0.3ft and 2ft, mostly from the west, with the combined energy stuck under 100 (weak) for the entire first ten days. You’ll get clean conditions on a few of those days – like Wednesday morning the 8th of July under glassy skies, and Friday the 10th with a clean cross-off breeze – but there’s just no push. It’s not going to be worth paddling out for anything more than a float.
Now, things do start to look a bit more interesting heading into the second weekend. By Saturday the 18th of July, the swell picks up to 3ft, and then on Sunday the 19th, we’re seeing 4ft to 4ft from the west with combined energy climbing into the moderate range (127 to 137). The wind is clean and cross-off in the mornings, which is a solid plus, and the swell period is still short at 6-7 seconds, but there’s finally some power there. Not a standout, but it’s the best we’ve seen.
The real highlight comes on Monday the 20th of July. The swell jumps to 6ft from the west, combined energy hits 320 (strong), and you’re looking at a solid 7-second period. This is the biggest push of the whole forecast. The catch? The wind turns cross-on from the west, around 6 mph, which will put a bit of bump on it. It’s still rideable, but it won’t be glassy. Still, for anyone who’s been watching the flat spell, Monday morning will be the one to aim for. Just know that at 6ft, it’s going to be a bit much for the beginners.
The water temperature is sitting at 62°, which is about 4° warmer than you’d usually expect for this time of year – a nice touch for the first real surf of the outlook.
No real standouts to rave about, but if you’re patient, the 20th of July has the best chance of a proper session.
Rusty.
