Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the local scene for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it's looking like a tough run for Putsborough. The swell is tiny and the wind is mostly a pain, so we're in for a long, quiet period. We've got over a week of nothing really worth paddling out for from the start.
We kick off Friday the 3rd with a tiny 3ft swell from the west, but it's short period at 10 seconds and the wind is cross-on from the WSW. It's messy and weak, with combined energy only reaching 198 (moderate energy). The weekend (4th and 5th) is basically the same story—wave heights dropping, winds staying cross-on, and energy fading fast into the weak zone.
We'll see a lull all the way through to the middle of the following week. Monday the 6th through to the weekend of the 11th and 12th is a total write-off. Swell heights are barely 1ft, energy is pitiful, and the wind just can't get it together. The only small glimmer is late in the week on the 9th and 10th, where we get some cross-off and even offshore winds that clean the surface right up, but the swell is still way too small to make it worth it—maybe for a log if you're desperate, but there's no wave energy to speak of.
Now, there's a bit of a pulse trying to build around Monday the 13th. Swell bumps up to 3ft in the morning, and the period stretches out to a solid 11 seconds, giving the combined energy a boost to 200 (moderate energy). That's a clean groundswell. But by the afternoon the wind gets messy again. It's the best we see in the whole window, but it's not saying much.
After that, it's back into the doldrums. Tuesday the 14th through Saturday the 18th is more of the same: small swell, poor winds, and weak energy. Thursday the 16th morning has a clean cross-off breeze and a 4ft swell for a bit, but it's short-period and won't hold any shape.
Honestly, there's no standout session here. The whole 16-day forecast is a bust for decent waves. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so that's not offering any surprises either. This is one of those stretches where the beach is better for a walk than a paddle.
Rusty.
