Table - best surf conditions forecast for Salcombe over the next 16 days.
Right then, let’s talk about the next couple of weeks around Salcombe. Honestly, it’s a rough start. The first week is pretty much a write-off for any decent paddle surfing, so don’t get your hopes up until we get past the middle of the month.
The first real chance of something rideable doesn’t show up until Thursday, July 16th. That morning, the wind goes light offshore from the NNW, cleaning things right up. We’ll see a 7ft swell coming from the East, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 515 – there’s some push there. The forecast says “expect good surf conditions” for that slot, but honestly, the swell direction is East and this is a sheltered spot that loves a South swell, so it’s not going to be at its absolute best. If you’re desperate, that’s your window, but keep your expectations in check. The water temperature is what you’d expect for the time of year, nothing weird going on there.
After that brief glimmer, things drop right off again. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are tiny, with waves around 2ft to 2ft from the SW. The wind will be cross-offshore, so the surf will be clean, but there’s just no size or energy (combined energy in the 20s and 30s). It’s a flat spell.
Then we move into a long, barren gap from Sunday the 19th right through to Wednesday the 23rd of July. The swell is negligible – we’re talking 0.7ft to 1.0ft most days. The wind is all over the shop, sometimes onshore, sometimes offshore, but the energy is so low (values like 13, 17, 15) it’s basically a lake. Not worth getting wet for.
The last day in the outlook, Thursday the 23rd of July morning, shows a bump in size to 5ft from the ENE, but the period is a short 5 seconds and the wind is cross-onshore. It’ll be choppy and poor, with only 161 units of combined energy. Not a standout, just a reminder that winter isn't here yet.
Look, if you’re desperate for a surf, the best of a bad bunch is that Thursday the 16th morning. Otherwise, this is a classic summer flat spell for this area. It’s all about the small, clean days for a longboard, and there are none on offer. The wind and swell just won’t line up.
