Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it for the Salcombe region. We're looking at a pretty flat and quiet stretch ahead, so let's not mince words.
Honestly, this is a tough outlook. The entire 16-day window is a bit of a bust for any decent, rideable waves. The combined wave energy barely cracks three digits, hitting a moderate 279 (on Saturday afternoon, 4th July), but even then the wind is messy and the conditions are labelled as poor. We’re looking at a long gap of small, weak swell and tricky wind for the next two weeks. There isn’t a single standout session I can point you to with any confidence.
For Salcombe itself, the water temp is sitting at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – nice for a swim, but it won't help the surf.
Saturday the 4th is about as good as it gets, and that’s saying something. The morning has some clouds with a small 3 ft west swell (125 combined energy) but the wind is a cross-off at 12 mph, keeping things clean. The afternoon bumps up to 4 ft from the west, but the wind picks up to 16 mph and swings cross-off, so it’s lumpy. It’s still poor surf.
Sunday the 5th morning is actually the best wind of the whole period – a gentle 9 mph offshore from the WNW, making it clean, but the swell is a tiny 2 ft from the west (83 energy). You might get a few knee-high rollers if you’re desperate.
After that, it’s a downward slide. From Monday the 6th through to Sunday the 19th of July, we see nothing but tiny swell, mostly under 2 ft, with energy levels dropping into the low double-digits. The wind flips around constantly – onshore, cross, and even a strong 25 mph easterly cross-shore on Thursday the 9th that will chop things up into a washing machine. There’s a 6 ft spike on Friday the 10th morning from the east, but the period is a terrible 5 seconds and the wind is a fresh cross-onshore, making it a lumpy, blown-out mess. That one is for expert kite surfers, not paddle surfers.
The whole run is inconsistent and weak. Don't expect any proper waves. The forecasts can always change, but for now, this stretch looks like a solid blank run for Salcombe. Keep the board in the car, but maybe take the fishing rod instead.
