Right, I’ve had a proper look through the charts for your local stretch, and I’ll be straight with you – it’s looking like a flat spell with precious little to get excited about. We’ve got a real dry patch on our hands.
The only spot with any kind of recommendation is Mother Ivey’s Spot M, a sheltered little nook that’s fairly consistent but needs a specific westerly swell. The water is sitting at a notable 64°F right now, which is much warmer than you’d expect for this time of year – almost four and a half degrees above normal, so you might not need the thickest wetsuit.
Looking at the first few days, it’s a write-off. Saturday the 11th has a tiny 2ft swell from the west with a 9-second period, but a moderate northerly breeze is messing it up. The next few days are just as grim – tiny, weak, and onshore. We’re talking about a gap of nearly a week here with no real hope.
The first flicker of something better might show on Sunday the 19th. Swell picks up to 4ft from the west-northwest, but it’s a short 7-second period and a moderate cross-shore wind will chop it up. The energy is moderate (176), but the conditions are still poor.
The standout period, if you can call it that, looks like Tuesday the 21st. We’ve got a 5ft westerly swell with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is strong (297). The wind is a light offshore from the northeast, which is a major positive. This could be the cleanest, most rideable wave in the whole 16-day window, but it’s still not a classic. It’s a solid intermediate-level wave.
After that, it fades again. Wednesday the 22nd has a 3ft swell with moderate energy (203), but a light onshore breeze keeps it average. The final week dribbles out with small, messy waves, including a bigger 6ft pulse on the 26th, but it’s short-period and the wind is all over the place.
Honestly, for a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a bleak run. The forecasts can always change, but as it stands, you’re waiting for that Tuesday the 21st session for the best bet. It’s not a classic, but it’s the only real window of quality.
Rusty.
