Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight up – the next sixteen days at Porthleven are a proper struggle. We’ve got a long gap of flat to tiny, messy conditions to start, and honestly, there’s no real standout session to get excited about. The swell energy stays weak throughout, and the wind is mostly working against us.

Alright, so from Saturday the 4th right through until Tuesday the 7th, it’s pretty much a write-off. Waves are between 2ft and 4ft, but the wind is cross or cross-on from the west and northwest, making for choppy, bumpy surface. The water temperature sits at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but you won’t care much about that when you’re fighting a cross-chop. Combined swell energy is weak at best, topping out at 292 on the Saturday morning – not enough to get your heart racing.

Wednesday the 8th shows a flicker of hope. We get a tiny bump of 2ft from the west, with a 9-second period, but the wind turns offshore from the east-southeast in the morning and east-northeast in the afternoon. It’s clean, glassy in texture, but the energy is still weak (97 and 85). It’s surfable, but very ordinary – only for the die-hards who need a paddle.

Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th stay clean with offshore winds, but don’t get your hopes up. The swell stays stuck at 3ft to 3ft, with combined energy barely hitting 132. The wind cranks up to 19 mph on the Thursday, which is a fresh breeze – making it feel a bit hectic for such small waves. Not worth the battle.

The weekend of the 11th and 12th sees a slight lift in size, with Saturday the 11th pushing 5ft by the afternoon and energy jumping to 464 – moderate and the most energy of the whole outlook. But the wind is cross from the west-northwest and northwest, creating a messy cross-chop. That 5ft is getting sloppy, and it’s really only for experienced surfers who can handle the bump. Sorry, not a good look for the average punter.

Into the second week, from Monday the 13th onward, it’s all downhill again. Swell drops below 3ft, mostly around 2ft to 3ft, with energy dipping into the two and three-digit weak range. There are some clean moments – Monday the 13th morning has glassy conditions on 2ft, and Tuesday the 14th morning is glassy on 3ft – but it’s just too small to call it a wave worth chasing. Offshore winds on the 14th and 15th offer a clean surface, but again, the size just isn’t there.

The last few days, from Saturday the 18th to Sunday the 19th, fade right out. Swell drops to 1ft to 2ft, period falls to 7 seconds, and energy is down to 20-46. The wind offers some clean and glassy windows, but you’re looking at barely a ripple.

Bottom line: if you’ve got to get wet, aim for Wednesday the 8th or Tuesday the 14th in the morning for the cleanest conditions, but keep your expectations on the floor. This stretch is a tough one. Sometimes it goes like that here. Forecasts can shift, but right now, there’s no magic day hiding in the data.

Rusty.
