Table - best surf conditions forecast for Caerhays over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with the lowdown on Caerhays for the next couple of weeks. Fair warning, it's a grim picture. The wind just won't let up for the first week, mostly howling in from the east and ruining any chance of clean waves.
We start on Friday the 10th with a tiny, unrideable 0.3ft ripple. The water is a warm 64°, which is a massive 4° above average, so that's odd but doesn't help the surf. Quality is poor and the energy is almost nothing. Saturday and Sunday look rough – the swell climbs to 6ft by Sunday afternoon the 12th, but with a 30 km/h cross-shore wind, it'll be a total washout. The energy hits 321, but it's all wind chop. Monday the 13th is even worse with a 45 km/h strong breeze and lumpy 8ft surf that's pure chaos with 544 energy. The rest of the week into the 16th and 17th offers nothing but tiny, choppy junk. Saturday the 18th morning looks glassy, but there's zero swell – it's flat as a pancake.
After that, there's a long gap of several days with no real surf to speak of. Sunday the 19th through to Tuesday the 21st finally see the wind turn offshore or glassy, but there's no swell to ride. It’s clean, but completely flat.
The one faint pulse comes on Wednesday the 22nd, with a 2ft swell from the WSW, but it's a short-period windswell and the cross-shore wind returns. To be honest, the entire 16-day run has no standout sessions. The swell is either too small, or the wind is too strong and from the wrong angle. A real bust.
When the surf is this small and windy, the setup honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It’s a rough stretch, but don't lose hope – forecasts can change.
Rusty.
