Table - best surf conditions forecast for Caerhays over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. Rusty here.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with ya—Caerhays is looking at a rough stretch. For the next couple of weeks, the surf is all but flat or just plain messy. We’re not seeing any standout sessions worth getting excited about right now. There’s a bit of a blank run here, and honestly, for this area, it’s not that unusual to have a spell like this.
We kick off the first surf recommendation on Sunday the 12th of July, but don’t get your hopes up. Swell is around 5 ft from the ESE, but it’s short period at just 7 seconds, so it’s weak and disorganised. The wind is howling out of the east at 22 mph, cross-shore, churning up lumpy cross-chop. Combined wave energy is 238 (moderate), but the quality is just poor. Water temp is sitting at 66 °F, which is a massive 5 °F warmer than usual for this time of year—very unusual, almost feels like a warm bath out there.
Monday the 13th sees a bit more size in the morning, 8 ft from the ESE, but it’s still short period (8 seconds) and the east wind has ramped up to 28 mph. That’s a strong breeze, cross-shore, creating messy conditions. Combined energy hits 587 (strong), but it’s a washing machine out there. This kind of size with that wind and a beach setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
By Tuesday the 14th, the swell drops back to 4 ft, wind is still fresh from the east, and the cross-chop lingers. Energy drops to 196 (moderate). Still no joy.
From Wednesday the 15th onward, it flatlines. Swell heights tumble below 2 ft with periods all over the shop—some long-period 16-second pulses, but they’re tiny, like 0.3 ft. The wind does go light or even clean at times, like on Saturday the 18th when the wind drops to 3 mph from the NW with clean conditions, but there’s only 1.0 ft of swell. Not even a proper ripple.
There’s a small uptick on Sunday the 26th of July, with a 4 ft SSW swell, but it’s short period (6 seconds), and the wind is a moderate cross-shore from the WSW. The energy is only 79 (weak). By Monday the 27th, it’s back to ankle-biters.
Bottom line: Caerhays is a no-go. The winds are either onshore or cross-shore and strong, the swell is either too weak or too messy, and there’s nothing that comes together for a decent wave. If you’re desperate, wait for a clean, light-wind day and maybe catch a tiny crumbler, but honestly, the forecast doesn’t have a single standout. Conditions like these can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, leave the board in the car.
