Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey, Rusty here. Let’s run through Caerhays over the next 16 days. Honestly, it’s a dead period. This break is known for being inconsistent, so a blank stretch like this is pretty typical. No proper rideable waves to speak of, but I’ll give you the details.
Water temp is a bit warmer than average for this time of year – 62°F, with an anomaly of plus 3°F. Feels nice for a dip, but that’s about it.
We kick off Monday 6th July through Friday 10th with almost nothing. Tiny 0.3ft to 1ft dribble, mostly cross-shore wind, some glassy moments, but no energy (combined energy between 2 and 8 – weak). Not worth suiting up.
Then Saturday 11th July morning gives us a little blink. Swell lifts to 3ft from the ESE, period only 6 seconds – short period windswell. Wind is cross-off from the ENE at 9 mph, so the surface is clean. Energy is still weak at 68. The report says “surfable but very ordinary”. You might snag a few tiny waves, but nothing special. Afternoon wind swings cross-on and it’s back to poor.
Sunday 12th July sees more size – 4ft from the ESE, 7 second period. Combined energy hits 145 (moderate). But wind is problematic: morning cross-off from the ENE at 19 mph, keeps it clean but bumpy; afternoon cross-on from the SE at 9 mph, making it choppy. Not good.
Monday 13th to Tuesday 14th similar: 3–4ft ESE swell, short period, cross-shore winds gusting 16–19 mph. Energy moderate (98–125). Surface is lumpy and messy.
Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th July bring the biggest pulse. Swell peaks at 6ft Wednesday morning, hitting 8ft Thursday morning from the ESE, period still 7 seconds. Combined energy jumps to 262 then 669 – strong wave energy. But wind is awful: strong cross-shore from the east at 25 mph, kicking up messy cross-chop. Not paddle surfing weather – if you kite, this might look fun with the size and wind, but for a surfboard it’s junk.
After that the swell tanks. Friday 17th July morning drops to 0.3ft, and it stays tiny through Tuesday 21st July. Winds are cross or cross-off, but there’s no push. Energy falls back to single or low double digits.
The only small window is Saturday 11th July morning, and even that’s ordinary. The rest is flat spells followed by wind‑blown mess. Caerhays is naturally inconsistent, so this dry run is normal – forecasts can change, but right now there’s nothing here.
