Alright folks, Rusty here, looking at the Caerhays surf forecast for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty grim outlook for Caerhays. We’re looking at a whole lot of flatness and weak, grovelly conditions for the foreseeable future. There’s a long stretch from now through to Friday July 11th where there’s next to nothing worth paddling out for. The sea is just going to be a lake most days.
Things start to stir on Saturday July 11th. The afternoon sees a tiny pulse of swell push in at 4 ft from the east, with a short period of 5 seconds – that’s just windswell, not much grunt behind it. The real treat though is the wind: it goes glassy. That’s worth noting. It’s rare to get perfectly clean conditions, even if the waves are small. The water temp is sitting at 64°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a bonus if you’re keen for a splash.
Now, for the second week, from Sunday July 12th into the following week, the swell picks up but the quality goes backwards. We see 5 ft to 5 ft swell from the east-southeast, so there’s size there, but the wind is howling from the east at 19 mph to 25 mph, blowing straight across the break. It’s going to be lumpy, choppy, and a mess. The combined swell energy jumps up to moderate values, but with that cross-wind, it’s just not going to be any fun on a surfboard. Honestly, with that much wind and that kind of chop, this setup might be more interesting if you’ve got a kite.
The very end of the period, around July 19th and 20th, has a tiny bit of west swell, but it’s short period and onshore. Just forget about it.
So, the one and only standout in this whole two-week window is *maybe* that glassy Saturday afternoon on July 11th. It won’t be big, it won’t be powerful, but it’ll be clean.
Rusty, signing off.
