Table - best surf conditions forecast for Caerhays over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let me level with you – it’s a tough watch for Caerhays over this 16-day stretch. We’ve got a long, dry spell ahead, so don't get your hopes up too early.
The story starts on Saturday the 11th, but honestly, it’s not one to write home about. We’re looking at small, weak swell from the ESE – only about 3 ft on the morning with a short 6-second period. The combined energy is weak at 54, and with a stiff cross-breeze from the east at 15 mph, it’s just messy. That water temp is sitting at 66°, which is a full 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s notable, but it won’t help the wave quality.
Through Sunday the 12th, the wind jumps up, and while the afternoon bumps up to 7 ft swell from the ESE, the energy climbs to moderate at 458. But the wind is a cross-shore gale near 19 mph, making it a lumpy, choppy mess. Not worth paddling out. That kind of size and wind might actually be more interesting for the kite crew.
From there, it’s a painful run. Monday the 13th through to nearly the end of the third week of July is basically a write-off. We’ve got days of tiny waves, poor direction, and cross-shore winds. The swell drops to almost nothing, with energy readings in the single digits. Some mornings have glassy conditions, like Friday the 17th, but with only 1 ft on offer, it’s flat.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Thursday the 24th. On the morning of the 24th, we finally get a clean, glassy morning with a bit of SW swell – about 4 ft, but the period is a disappointing 5 seconds, so it’s weak (61 energy). The conditions are calm though, so it’s surfable but ordinary. It’s the best we’ve got in this whole window.
Then on Saturday the 25th, we see a little more promise. The morning serves up 2 ft from the WSW with a longer 11-second period, and the wind is offshore from the NNW at 9 mph. It’s clean, but the size is small. The energy is still weak at 82. It’s a decent session for a longboard or a foiler, but not a standout.
Bottom line: this is a brutal 16-day forecast for Caerhays. The only real window is the morning of the 24th if you’re desperate, or the morning of the 25th if you want a clean little wave. Everything else is small, onshore, or flat. It’s a blank run that’s pretty normal for this area in summer, but it still stings.
Rusty.
