The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for our local stretch.
Alright, I'm not gonna beat around the bush—it’s a pretty grim outlook for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a long, quiet period ahead with barely a ripple worth talking about. The water is sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least the paddle won't be a shock to the system.
We start off on Wednesday 19th August with nothing. Absolutely flat. That continues through Thursday and Friday, with tiny waves that won't even tickle your ankles. The swell energy is struggling to hit double digits (6 to 57), and the period is mostly short and weak. There's a bit of a tease on Saturday 22nd August with glassy conditions in the afternoon, but on a 0.7-foot swell, you'd be floating on your board for nothing.
Sunday 23rd August sees a slight bump in the afternoon with 3 feet from the ESE, but it's a short-period 5-second wind swell, and the energy is still very weak (79). The wind is light and cross-shore, so the surface is just okay, but there's no power in the waves.
It stays flat and weak through most of the following week. The energy is consistently low, staying under 100. There's a lot of cross-offshore wind, but it doesn't matter when there's no swell to ride.
The first real sign of life doesn't show up until Monday 31st August. We're looking at a 3-foot swell from the SW with a 10-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a moderate 227. The wind is a fresh cross-offshore from the NW, so it'll be clean. Still, it's a modest wave, and it's over a week away, so don't bank on it just yet.
We've got another gap of flatness until Thursday 3rd September. That afternoon, a 5-foot SE swell rolls in with a short 5-second period, but the energy is moderate at 146. The wind is a light cross-off from the WNW, so the surface should be clean. This is the biggest swell of the forecast, but it's still far out and the period is short. It's surfable, but very ordinary.
Honestly, for the next 16 days, there's no standout session. If you're desperate, keep an eye on the 31st August and 3rd September windows, but keep your expectations low. This is a real flat spell for Caerhays, and it's a rare spot that's inconsistent at the best of times.
Rusty.
