Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perranporth over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve got to be straight with you—this is a tough one for Perranporth. The next 16 days are looking pretty grim for a proper surf. We’ve got a long, stubborn stretch of tiny, weak waves and wonky winds, and it’s not until the very end that we finally see a pulse of something worth paddling out for.
The first recommendation doesn’t come until the afternoon of Thursday, 10 July, and even then it’s nothing to get excited about. Friday morning, 10 July, sees a tiny 3ft swell from the west, with a period of 9 seconds and light ENE winds making for clean conditions. The combined energy is only 136 (weak), and the waves are surfable but very ordinary. It’s small, it’s weak, but it’s clean. Same story Friday afternoon, with a touch less size at 3ft. Saturday, 11 July, is even smaller. The morning offers a 2ft west swell, 10-second period, ENE wind, and clean but tiny surf. The afternoon sees a shift to a 3ft northwest swell with a short 6-second period, which is just poor.
Then we hit a dead zone. From Sunday, 12 July, right through to the morning of Thursday, 24 July, there’s nothing worth paddling for. The waves are either flat, blown out, or cross-onshore and choppy. A lot of these days see strong offshore winds from the east, but the swell is utterly pathetic—0.3ft, 0.7ft, 1ft tops. The energy readings are in the low 20s and 30s, which is about as weak as it gets. Mid-week from 15 July, the wind swings onshore and the swell stays tiny. That stretch of 12 days is a write-off.
Now, here’s the one glimmer. On the morning of Friday, 24 July, we get a sudden spike. A 6ft swell from the west-northwest, with a short 6-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 242 (moderate). The wind is a glassy 5 km/h from the north-northwest. That’s glassy conditions. The waves will be a bit bumpy and short-period, but clean. At 6ft, it’s a solid size for intermediates, though the short period means it’ll be a bit walled and maybe a bit of a wrestle, especially at a beach break. But for a place that’s been flat for nearly two weeks, this is the standout. It’s the only day in the whole outlook that’s worth a serious look. Keep in mind it’s late in the forecast, so some uncertainty remains, but it’s the best we’ve got.
Water temperature? It’s about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. Crowds at Perranporth are always a possibility, and on that Friday morning with glassy conditions, you’ll likely have company. But for the first surfable wave in a fortnight, it might be worth the fight.
That’s it from me. A long, flat run, and then one morning to make it count. Stay keen.
Rusty.
