Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, this stretch is a proper slow burn. We’ve got a long, dry spell of barely-anything before things finally wake up. The first few days are pretty grim, with tiny waves and a lot of onshore or cross-shore wind messing things up. You’ll be waiting over a week for any real size to show. The water is sitting at 64° at Perranporth, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least the wait won’t be too cold.

Alright, let’s get into the nitty-gritty. Starting from Sunday the 12th, don’t even bother. Ankle-snappers at 0.3ft from the SW with a 21-second period, but the energy is non-existent (24) and the conditions are just poor. The next few days are all variations on a theme: tiny, weak, and messy. Monday 13th has a 2ft from the north, but the period is a pathetic 6 seconds, and it’s just not worth paddling out for.

The first real flicker of potential comes on the morning of Sunday the 19th. We’ll see a clean 5ft from the north with a solid 12 mph offshore wind from the east. The energy is moderate (197), and it’ll be clean. The period is short (6 seconds), so it’ll be a bit fat and soft, but it’s the first surfable wave in a week. It’s a beginner-friendly size, but don’t expect any barrels.

Then we go into another flat spell. Nothing really lights up until the morning of Thursday the 23rd. That’s when we get a bit more grunt: 4ft from the WNW, with a good 7-second period, and the wind is a light cross-offshore from the NE. The energy is moderate (214) and the conditions will be clean. Afternoon of the same day drops to 4ft from the west, but it’s still clean. It’s still not a standout, but it’s the best of a quiet patch.

Now, the real show is a long-range forecast, so keep your fingers crossed. The morning of Monday the 27th is the only true standout. We’re talking a solid 10ft from the west with a 10-second period. That’s proper groundswell energy – the combined energy is a whopping 1446. This is big, powerful stuff. The wind is just a whisper from the WNW. This wave is for experts only – it’s well over 8ft and will be powerful. The period is over 11 seconds, so it’ll have plenty of punch, but at a beach break like Perranporth, it might be a bit too straight to handle. That afternoon it drops to 8ft but with a cross-onshore wind, so it’ll be a lot choppier. The Monday morning is the one to circle on the calendar, but it’s over a week away, so don’t book the time off just yet.

As for the rest, it’s pretty dismal. The 26th has some size (5ft-5ft), but it’s onshore or cross-onshore, so it’ll be a messy, lumpy mess. If you’re a kite surfer, the 24th through 26th might have some pull, but for a paddle surfer, it’s a no-go.

In summary: two weeks of waiting for one big, powerful Monday morning. The rest is a long, flat, or messy walk. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on things.

Rusty.
