Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perranporth over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this forecast for the next 16 days is a tough one. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with hardly anything to get excited about. The first decent look doesn’t come until Friday the 10th, and even then, it’s pretty meek.
The water at Perranporth is sitting at a fairly normal 62°F, so no surprises there for the time of year.
Let’s start with the only real glimmer in this whole period. On Friday morning, July 10th, we’ve got a tiny 3 ft swell pushing in from the West, with a period of 9 seconds. It’s not much, but the wind is a light, cross-offshore breeze from the NE, so the conditions will be clean. The combined energy is a weak 136, so you’ll be scratching for anything. It’s the only time the forecast even mentions “clean” conditions, so if you’re desperate, that Friday morning is your best bet. The afternoon holds similar, but the swell drops to 3 ft.
Saturday the 11th is even smaller, with 2 ft waves. The wind is light and cross-off, so it’s clean, but the energy is down to 102 and then 86. It’s basically a flat, glassy lake with a ripple.
After that, the wind goes onshore or stays strong and cross-off, and the swell gets messy. Sunday the 12th brings a messy 2 ft to 3 ft from the N and NNE, but with a combined energy below 80 and a short, weak period, it’s not worth a paddle. The wind picks up to 16 mph, making it choppy.
The whole second week is a write-off. From Monday the 13th all the way through to Thursday the 23rd, the swell stays tiny, mostly under 3 ft, and the wind is all over the shop – onshore, strong cross-onshore, or just plain messy. The combined energy sinks into the 20s and 30s, which is basically nothing. There’s a couple of days with offshore wind, like Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th, but the swell is just too small and weak to do anything with. It’s a 10-day gap of nothing.
There is a tiny bump on Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, with swell just reaching 3 ft to 4 ft, but the wind is a strong 28 mph cross-onshore from the WSW, which will make it a complete mess. The combined energy jumps to 106, but with that wind, you’re better off looking at kitesurfing than paddling.
So, to sum it up: the only standout is a very small, clean window on Friday morning, July 10th. Don’t hold your breath for the rest.
Rusty.
