Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perranporth over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and quiet for the most part, so we’ve got a long stretch of time to wait before anything with a bit of punch shows up. The water is currently sitting at 65° at Perranporth, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a real treat if you’re heading in for a paddle.
Right now, we’re looking at a big gap. From Monday the 13th right through past the middle of the month, the swell is tiny and the wind is mostly cross-off or offshore, but there’s just no wave energy to work with. The combined energy values are all in the double digits, which is weak, and the swell heights are barely scraping 2 ft. It’s pretty much a write-off for paddle surfing. There’s a few windows of glassy or light offshore conditions on the 19th and 20th, but the swell is so small it’s not worth getting excited about. You’d be chasing ripples.
Things start to change around the 24th of July. That Friday morning, the swell picks up to 4 ft from the west with a period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy climbs to 182 (moderate). But it’s onshore, so it’s going to be messy. By Friday afternoon, we’re seeing 5 ft at 7 seconds (279 energy), but again, it’s cross-onshore and choppy. Not great for traditional surfing, but that kind of wind and swell combo could be fun for the kite crew.
The real standout window is Saturday the 25th of July. That’s your best bet. We’ve got a clean 3 ft west swell in the morning, with a period of 8 seconds (137 energy), and the wind is a gentle offshore from the ESE. That’s going to produce clean, rideable waves at Perranporth. The afternoon is similar, with 3 ft and light offshore wind. It’s not massive, but compared to the rest of the outlook, it’s the only time the stars align for a proper paddle session. The swell direction of west is spot on for the optimum direction for this break.
The very end of the outlook, around Monday the 27th, shows a bigger push – 7 ft from the northwest at 7 seconds (342 energy) – but it’s coming in with a light cross-onshore wind. That’s a lot of power, but at that height and with onshore wind, it’s going to be a choppy, lumpy mess. That’s more for the experts, and honestly, the quality won’t be there. Tuesday the 28th drops back down to 4 ft with fresh cross-shore wind, which is just ordinary.
So, bottom line: you’ve got a long flat spell, then a brief window of clean surf on the 25th that’s your best shot. The 27th has size but not quality. Keep your eyes on the 25th, and don’t expect much else.
Rusty.
