Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perranporth over the next 16 days.
Alright, surfers, it’s Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for the next couple of weeks.
This forecast starts with a rough patch, no doubt. For the first few days, from Friday 10th July right through to the middle of the month, it’s going to be pretty bleak. You’ve got weak, small swell, almost all the time cross-off winds, and precious little energy. The combined swell energy on Friday afternoon is only 128 (moderate wave energy), and it just tails off from there. There are going to be several days in a row here where it’s just not worth paddling out – a proper dry spell.
Now, the first chance of anything half-decent creeps in around Tuesday morning, 14th July. We’re looking at a tiny 3ft swell from the north with a period of 6 seconds, but the combined energy (96) is still very weak. The afternoon eases off with some gentle offshore wind, but honestly, it’s still very ordinary.
Wednesday 15th July afternoon has the water going glassy. Calm as a lake, but the swell is a tiny 1ft from the west at 9 seconds. It’s clean, but there’s simply no push.
The second week holds a bit more promise, even if it’s not for everyone. Early morning on Thursday 23rd July, you get a 5ft west swell with a 7-second period. The combined energy jumps to 271 (moderate wave energy). Winds are a gentle cross-shore, creating a slight chop. It’s a marginal call, honestly, but it’s the first sign of proper size.
But the big event is shaping up for Friday the 24th of July. This is the standout if you’re an expert. We’re looking at a proper, long-period groundswell pushing in from the west. The morning has a 13ft swell at 10 seconds, swinging to 15ft at 12 seconds by the afternoon. The combined energy is monstrous – 3402 in the morning and 5203 in the afternoon. That’s strong to very strong wave energy. The wind is forecast to be fresh offshore from the southeast, which will keep the faces clean. However, let’s be real – this is way too big for beginners (over 8ft), and it’s firmly in expert territory. For a beach break like Perranporth, that long period (over 11 seconds) might make it break a bit too straight, but for those with the skill, it’s going to be a session to remember.
Saturday the 25th of July drops back to a 10ft west swell, but it goes cross-on with the wind, and the conditions look marginal and messy.
So, the one true standout on offer is Friday 24th July for the hardcore crew only. For everyone else, it’s a long wait for anything rideable.
Rusty out.
