Table - best surf conditions forecast for Perranporth over the next 16 days.
Right then, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a flat spell for the most part. The run from today right through to the end of the month is looking pretty tough for a proper paddle. We’ve got a real dry patch here, with no real surf worth jumping out of bed for for a good long stretch.
The first break we have a proper look at is Perranporth. It’s a fairly exposed beach, and the water is sitting at about 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The first few days are a real struggle. Sunday the 12th through to Tuesday the 14th, we’re looking at tiny, short-period leftovers, with the combined energy barely scraping into double digits (51 to 97). The wind is mostly cross-off or off, keeping things clean, but there’s just no push. It’s poor surf conditions, plain and simple.
The rest of that first week, from Wednesday the 15th through to the weekend of the 19th, is the same story. Small, weak swells, mostly under 2ft, with periods so short they’re barely a ripple. The combined energy is often down in the 20s and 30s. There’s a moment of glassy calm on Thursday the 16th morning, but with only 1ft of 7-second swell, it’s a lake, not a surf break. Offshore winds on the 19th keep it tidy, but again, the swell is just not there.
The second week kicks off with a bit more wind, but still no real swell. Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st have a little more energy, with combined energy hitting 70, but it’s still small, knee-high stuff at best. The wind is either cross-off or clean offshore, but it’s a case of all dress and nowhere to go.
Now, things do get interesting towards the end of the month, but it gets messy. On Thursday the 23rd of July, we see a proper pulse of swell finally arrive. The combined energy jumps right up to a strong 539, with a swell of 8ft from the NNW. However, the period is a short, fat 7 seconds, and the wind is a fresh cross-shore from the SSW at 18 mph. That’s a lumpy, choppy mess. The next day, the 24th, the swell drops to 4ft, but the wind is howling onshore from the NW at 28 mph. That’s not a surf day, that’s a kite-surfing day. The quality is just poor.
The only time this whole period looks even remotely interesting is on the final weekend, the 26th and 27th. On Sunday the 26th, we get a solid 7ft swell from the west with a combined energy of 617, but it’s a short-period (8 seconds) windswell, and the wind is a fresh cross-onshore from the WSW. It’s big, but it’s a lumpy close-out. Then Monday the 27th, the swell drops to 4ft, still from the west, but the wind goes light onshore from the WNW. It’s clean but blown out.
To be honest, there’s no standout winner here. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a write-off for consistent, quality waves. The best bet, if you’re desperate, would be the Monday the 27th morning with 4ft of west swell and lighter winds, but even then, it’s not a classic. Keep an eye on the charts, because it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Rusty.
