Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming for Perranporth over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a slow start. We’ve got a real dry patch from Monday the 6th all the way through to Wednesday the 8th. That’s a few days with nothing worth paddling for.
The first glimmer shows up on Wednesday the 8th morning. It’s not much—just 2ft of west swell with a weak combined energy of 90. The big positive is the wind: it’s glassy, dead calm. That’ll make the surface clean, but the waves are tiny and ordinary. If you’re really itching, you could get a few, but it’s barely surfable.
Thursday brings a light cross-shore breeze with similar knee-high junk, and the energy stays weak, around that 87-89 mark. Not worth the wetsuit.
Friday the 10th through Sunday the 12th, conditions are clean with a cross-offshore wind, but the swell is just too small and inconsistent. The energy ticks up a bit on Saturday afternoon to 165 with a bump to 4ft, but it’s coming from the NNW with a short period of 7 seconds. It’s a messy wave.
Then we hit a dead zone from Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th. Swell drops to nearly nothing—0.3ft to 1ft—with the combined energy barely breaking into double digits. The wind is offshore and clean, but you need water moving to surf.
Things get a bit more interesting on Thursday the 16th morning. A 3ft west-southwest groundswell with a period of just 6 seconds, but the combined energy hits 104, and we’ve got a moderate offshore wind from the southeast. It’s surfable, but that short period means it’ll be crumbly and weak. Just ordinary.
Now, I said it was a slow burner, but the end of the run has a real flash. The standout window is Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. Monday morning looks like the pick of the entire forecast. We’re looking at a solid 8ft west swell—too big for beginners, that’s expert territory—with a combined energy roaring up to 809. The swell period is 8 seconds, which is a bit short for that size, meaning it’ll be powerful but a bit dumpy. The wind is a gentle cross-offshore from the northeast, keeping the faces clean. This is the one to circle on your calendar.
Tuesday the 21st morning keeps that energy pumping with an 8ft west swell and a combined energy over 1000—very strong wave energy at 1056. The wind swings hard offshore from the east-southeast at 19 mph, which will groom it nicely. Again, this is big, heavy stuff, only for experienced surfers.
For the standout, I’m picking Monday the 20th morning at Perranporth. The swell size is pushing 8ft from the west, the energy is strong (809), and it’s clean. Just be aware, it’s a beach break, and with a period of 8 seconds, it could close out a bit, so pick your peak wisely.
Crowds at Perranporth are sometimes an issue, and on a day like that, expect plenty of company, but for the first proper swell in ages, it’ll be worth it.
The water temp is sitting at 61°F which is normal for this time of year.
This forecast is for the second week, so keep an eye on it—long-range stuff is promising but can shift.
That’s the picture. Get ready for a slow start, but that final push looks serious.
Rusty.
