Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get this one straight. I’ve checked the charts for Perranporth, and to be honest, we’ve got a pretty grim 16-day window ahead. The models are showing very little in the way of proper surf, and I’m not seeing any day that I’d point a mate towards.
For the entire outlook, the wave heights are tiny, mostly hovering between 1 ft and 3 ft, with a couple of slightly bigger pulses that get ruined by the wind. The combined energy is weak, barely cracking 100 for most of the first week, which tells you how anemic it is. The wind is a constant problem, almost always cross-on or onshore, so what little swell there is will be lumpy and chopped out.
There is a small kick in swell on the 10th of July, Friday. The morning sees a 3 ft west swell, but it’s coming with a moderate cross-onshore breeze at 16 mph. The combined energy creeps up to 185, but it’s still messy. Then on the 11th of July, Saturday, it gets a bit bigger in the afternoon, up to 7 ft from the NNW with a 7-second period. That’s a short-period, powerful windswell with energy hitting 568, but the wind is still a fresh cross-onshore at 16 mph. For a beach break like Perranporth, with that wind and short period, it’s going to be a blown-out, churned-up mess. It might look more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
The water temperature is sitting at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s small comfort when you’re staring at flat, choppy lines.
For the second week, it’s even more grim. Swell sizes drop off again, wind stays ugly, and the combined energy plummets into the double digits. The 17th of July, Friday morning, shows a tiny 3 ft swell from the NNW with a light cross-offshore breeze, making the surf look clean, but at 6 seconds period and energy of just 79, it’s barely going to break.
Honestly, there’s nothing to get excited about here. This looks like a long, flat spell for Cornwall. It tends not to stay this poor forever, so keep an eye on it, but for the next couple of weeks, I’d be finding something else to do.
