The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for our local stretch of coast.
To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and underwhelming. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak surf and mostly messy winds, so don’t get your hopes up for anything firing. The first real chance of a wave that’s worth paddling out for doesn’t show up until the very end of the period, and even then, it’s nothing to write home about. There’s a big gap of days with basically no surfable waves, so you’ll be waiting a while.
The standout, if you can call it that, is a small window on Wednesday 29th July. Through the morning, we’re looking at a bit of a pulse from the WNW, around 4ft, with a short period of 6 seconds. The wind is set to be light and cross-off from the south, which will keep things clean. The combined energy climbs to 175 (moderate), so there’s a little bit of push behind it. It’s not going to be epic, but it’s the best we’ll see. The break is Perranporth – it’s fairly exposed to the west, which is what we need. The water is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a nice bonus for a morning session.
After that, the wind swings more onshore and the quality drops off again. The rest of the 16 days is mostly tiny, weak drivel with a lot of cross-shore and onshore chop. Thursday 30th July sees a bit more size, with 5ft on the cards, but the wind is messy from the west-southwest and it’s just too lumpy to be any fun – that’s expert-only territory for the size and conditions, but it’s not clean.
So, bottom line: get ready for a long flat spell. The only real window is the morning of Wednesday 29th July at Perranporth. Keep an eye on the forecast, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
