Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Perranporth has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you; it's a pretty quiet picture overall. We've got small, weak swell on the horizon and a lot of days where the wind just won't play ball. The surf is going to be scarce, so temper your expectations.
Looking through the forecast, the first real glimmer of something rideable doesn't show up until Wednesday, 8th July. Before that, from now until Tuesday the 7th, it's a write-off. We're looking at a solid five-day gap of "poor surf conditions" with small, onshore-slanted swell and messy winds. The combined wave energy is mostly weak, sitting below 100 (measured at 97 on Monday afternoon), so it’s not worth paddling out for.
So, let's jump ahead to Wednesday, 8th July. We finally see a change in the wind. A light breeze from the NE turns cross-offshore, cleaning things up. The swell is still tiny, just 2.3ft from the West with a 9-second period, and the energy is low (83). It's "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," so if you're desperate for a splash, a log or a foamie might get you a few dribbles. Thursday the 9th looks much the same with a light ENE cross-off. It's not good, but it's the best we've got in this first stretch.
We get a strong offshore wind from the ESE on Friday the 10th, gusting up to 25 mph. The swell is a pathetic 2.6ft. While it’s clean, that strong offshore will make it hard to paddle into and the combined energy (112) is still very weak. Honestly, it's more of a windsurfing day than a surfing day.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th July brings a shift in swell direction from the North, but the period drops to a short, weak 6 seconds. The winds turn onshore and choppy, with the swell hitting 4.9ft on Saturday morning. The energy picks up to 241, but with the short period and messy cross-shore wind, the quality is going to be poor. Not one for the lineup.
Early the following week, Monday the 13th sees a longer period swell (12 seconds) from the WNW, but the wind is a fresh cross-onshore and lumpy. The energy is moderate (214), but those conditions will ruin what could have been some nice lines.
The pattern of cross-onshore wind and small, weak swell continues right through the end of the forecast window on the 19th July. There's nothing here that I would call a standout session. The consistent theme is poor surf quality with a few isolated moments of clean but tiny waves.
If I had to pick the absolute best on offer, it would be a toss-up between the clean but small windows on Thursday the 9th July. The conditions will be glassy with the light cross-offshore breeze, but you'll be scratching for any kind of rideable bump. For most of this period, if the wind is up, the surf is down.
Stay patient. It might turn around, but for now, waxing a board feels like wishful thinking.
