The Lowdown
Alright, folks, it’s Rusty here, and I’ve got to be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Perranporth are looking like a bit of a test of patience. The first real chance of a wave that’s worth paddling out for doesn’t show up until Saturday the 22nd, and even then, it’s pretty weak. From now until then, we’re looking at a solid 4-day gap of no-go surf. The wind is mostly onshore and strong, and the swell is messy.
Let’s start with Saturday the 22nd. The morning is your best bet. We’ve got a tiny 1ft swell from the west with a 10-second period. The combined energy is a weak 55, so it’s not going to be powerful. But what makes it interesting is the light offshore breeze from the NE. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 66°, which is a nice bonus. It’ll be clean, but you’ll be working for every little ripple. It’s surfable, but only just.
The next real standout window is shaping up for Tuesday the 25th. The morning looks promising with a solid 8ft swell from the WSW, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a strong 845, so there’s plenty of push. The wind is cross-off from the SSE, keeping things reasonably clean. At 8ft, it’s getting into the zone where it’s a bit much for beginners, but for the intermediates, it could be a fun session. The afternoon drops off to 6ft and the wind gets stronger, so get on it early.
After that, things get a bit inconsistent. Thursday the 27th morning has a 5ft swell from the WSW with a 7-second period and glassy conditions from the north. The energy is moderate at 264, but the short period means the waves won’t have much shape. It’s surfable, but you’ll be dealing with a bit of a wash-through.
Looking further out, the weekend of the 29th and 30th has some small, clean swells, but nothing that’s going to get the heart racing. The morning of Saturday the 29th is glassy with a 3ft swell from the SW, but the energy is weak at 119. It’s knee-high dribbler for the dedicated.
Overall, the standout sessions are the morning of the 25th for the bigger swell, and the glassy-but-small morning of the 27th if you are desperate for a clean wave. The rest of the 16 days are mostly a write-off. Stay tuned, because forecasts can change, and it never stays this flat for long.
Rusty.
