Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for us.
Honestly, it’s a pretty grim start for Perranporth. We’ve got a solid week of onshore and cross-onshore winds blowing through, and the swell just doesn’t have the quality to match. The first real glimmer of hope is about a week away, but the wait is going to feel long. From Friday morning the 3rd, we get a brief window of glassy conditions with a clean 4ft west swell at 10 seconds and energy around (335), but that’s gone by the afternoon when the wind swings onshore. After that, it’s a long stretch of poor surf right through to the morning of Wednesday the 8th. That’s nearly five days of nothing worth paddling out for.
Wednesday the 8th morning finally gives us a tiny bit of relief with a clean cross-offshore breeze and a weak 2ft west swell, but the energy is low (61). Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th mornings are better, with moderate offshore winds from the east keeping things clean, but the swell is still tiny at 2ft to 2ft. It’s ridable, but you’ll be working hard for small waves.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. If you can wait, Monday the 13th brings a serious pulse of energy. The combined swell energy jumps to (815) with a 5ft west swell and a very long 12-second period. That’s proper groundswell. The caveat? The wind is a messy moderate cross-onshore, so conditions are poor. The wave quality is being wrecked by the breeze. The swell direction is straight out of the west, which is good for Perranporth, but we need the wind to cooperate. This is a case of the ocean offering power, but the weather isn’t playing ball.
The best bet in the whole outlook – and it’s really the only standout – is Friday morning, July 10th. Yes, it’s small, but we’ve got moderate offshore winds from the east, a clean 2ft west swell with a 10-second period, and the energy is moderate at (123). It’s a classic small-wave longboard day with clean conditions. Crowds can be an issue at Perranporth sometimes, but on a small day like that, you might get a bit more room.
The winds then go ugly again, with that bigger but blown-out swell on the 13th and 14th, and then a messy cross-onshore pattern returns. There’s a window on Thursday morning the 16th with clean cross-offshore wind and a 5ft swell (energy 342), but the period is a short 9 seconds, so it’ll be a little lumpy. That’s a distant second option.
Bottom line: the first week is a write-off for any real quality. The second week has more size and power, but the wind is a constant battle. If you can sneak out on Friday the 10th morning, that’s your cleanest small-wave session. For anything with real grunt, we’re waiting on the weather to sort itself out.
Stay patient.
