Table - best surf conditions forecast for Godrevy over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Well, I’ll be honest with you – it’s a lean stretch ahead. The first solid week is pretty much a write-off for any decent surf. We’ve got a long, frustrating gap until things start to look interesting. The swell is small and the wind is messy, with a lot of cross-off and cross-on conditions making a mess of what little wave energy there is.
Things start to stir on the 15th of July, but it’s hardly worth rushing out. Wednesday morning shows a tiny 1ft swell from the west with a weak 9-second period, and the combined energy is a paltry 60 (weak). The wind is light from the east, but it’s still cross-off, giving us surfable but very ordinary conditions. It’s not a day to get excited about.
The next few days bump up a little in size, but the wind stays stubbornly onshore or cross-onshore, making for choppy, lumpy waves. By Friday the 17th, we see a 3ft swell from the southwest, but the period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s weak and disorganised. The combined energy is a moderate 119, but it’s just not clean.
The real standout, if you can call it that, is a promise of something much bigger, but it’s a long way off. On the 22nd of July, Wednesday morning, the swell is predicted to hit 10ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is a massive 1201 (strong). However, the file tells me the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. It’s a beast for experts only, and even then, the wind is onshore from the NW, so it’ll be a rough, powerful, and challenging session. The 22nd afternoon is even bigger at 10ft and 1664 (very strong) energy, but again, it’s too big and the wind is onshore from the NW. This is a day for the very experienced, and only if you’re comfortable with heavy, messy conditions.
After that, the swell drops back down, and we’re back to small, poor conditions through to the end of the period.
Best on offer: Honestly, the 22nd of July is the only time the swell gets serious, but it’s a high-risk, expert-only affair. The 15th of July morning is the only other sliver of a chance, but it’s tiny and mundane. Keep your hopes up, but don’t plan your week around it.
Rusty.
