The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s face it, this 16-day stretch for Godrevy is a tough one. We’re lookin’ at a real flat spell, with precious little to get stoked about. The surf is just not cooperating, and honestly, it’s a bit of a heartbreaker for a spot that can be so good.
For the first week, from Wednesday the 15th right through to the end of Sunday the 26th, the wave heights are tiny. We’re talking ankle-biters, mostly under 3 ft, with a combined wave energy that’s almost always in the weak zone (under 100). The wind is a constant problem too, often cross or cross-onshore, adding a chop to the already limp swell. There’s a couple of mornings with a clean look from the east wind, but the swell is just too small to do anything with. It’s a total write-off for a proper paddle session.
There is a bit of a bump on the horizon, but it’s a messy one. On Saturday the 25th, the swell bumps up to 5 ft to 6 ft from the NNW, with a period of only 6 seconds. That’s short-period, windswell junk. The combined energy jumps into the moderate range (295 and 263) which is a tease, but it comes with a fresh cross-onshore wind. That’s a sloppy, onshore mess. For a beginner break like Godrevy, that’s too big and too messy. Honestly, on a day like that, the setup starts lookin’ more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. The swell is too big for beginners and the quality is poor.
After that, it’s back to flat. A long gap from the 27th through the 30th of July, with nothing but tiny, wind-affected waves. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
The short of it: there are no good surf options in this 16-day window. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s a normal part of summer. Keep the board in the car, but don’t hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a solid “stay home” forecast.
Rusty.
