The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's comin' down the pipe for Godrevy.
Honestly, it's a bit of a rough stretch ahead. For the next week and a half, we're looking at a real dry spell with nothing worth paddlin' out for. The swell is mostly tiny or weak, and when it does show a bit of size, the wind is gonna be working against us. The first real chance of anything worthwhile doesn't turn up until late in the second week.
The first few days from Sunday, July 19th through to the end of July are pretty much a write-off. The swell is small, often under 3.3 ft, and the period is short, mostly between 5 and 10 seconds. The wind is a constant problem, blowing onshore or cross-onshore, making for a choppy, messy surface. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
We finally see a glimmer of hope on Monday, July 28th. There's a solid 6.9 ft swell from the north with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to a moderate 861. It's a bit of a raw, powerful push, but it's a cross-onshore breeze from the NNW, which will keep it from being perfect. By Tuesday afternoon, it's still pulsing at 6.6 ft from the north, with 644 combined energy, and the wind swings more offshore. That's the best we've got, but it's big enough to be an expert-only session. The waves are gonna be powerful and heavy, so only the experienced crew should be out there.
After that, the swell backs off again. The next chance is Saturday, August 1st, with a 3.9 ft WNW swell and a 9-second period, but the wind is a fresh cross-shore, making it lumpy. It's not the clean, glassy day we'd be hoping for.
So, the standout in this whole 16-day window is the window on July 28th. The energy is there, but the wind is a compromise. It's promising, but you'll want to be a solid surfer to handle it. If you're a beginner, there's not much to get excited about in this forecast.
