The Lowdown
Alright, let’s take a look at what’s cookin’ here at Godrevy. Rusty here, and I’ll level with you – this forecast is a bit of a grind. The water’s sitting at 64°, right about average for the season, so no complaints there.
The bottom line is, there’s a long stretch of nothing good to start. From Wednesday the 19th, we’ve got a 1.5m cross-on W swell with a real short 6-second period – that’s just lumpy windswill. Thursday the 20th is 2.2m onshore with 30 km/h winds, energy reading 815, but it’s messy. Friday the 21st is small and choppy. Saturday the 22nd morning gives us a fleeting chance: a 1.0m N swell, clean cross-off breeze, but only 104 energy – surfable, but barely.
Then we hit a flat spell. Sunday the 23rd through Tuesday the 25th are all under 0.5m, with energy readings as low as 27. It’s dead. Wednesday the 26th shows a little life with 1.2m, but still sloppy. Thursday the 27th morning is the first real highlight: a 1.4m WNW swell, 10-second period, clean cross-off wind, and energy jumps to 465 – it’s marginal, but it’s the best we’ve seen. The afternoon holds 1.5m from the west, similar energy.
After that, we’re back to a lot of 1.4m to 2.1m west swells with cross-on winds and chop. The energy gets strong, hitting 680 on the 1st of September, but the wind’s no good. Then there’s a big one on Thursday the 3rd of September: a 4.0m WSW swell, 9-second period, cross-off breeze, and a massive 2538 energy reading. It’s clean and powerful, but that’s a beast only for the experts. For most, it’s too big.
So, the best of the run is Thursday the 27th of August for a cleaner, moderate swell, or the 3rd of September if you’re experienced and want a real challenge. Otherwise, there’s a lot of waiting.
Rusty.
