Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the immediate outlook is a bit of a bummer. We’ve got a long stretch of poor conditions ahead. From now through until the 13th of July, it’s mostly a write-off with small, weak swell and messy wind. There’s a real gap of about a week where the surf is just not worth the paddle. The best bet in this whole 16-day window is a standout window on Tuesday the 14th of July, but even then, it’s not a classic.
The only real highlight to get excited about is Godrevy on the morning of Tuesday the 14th of July. It’s a beginner-friendly spot, exposed to the west-northwest, and the swell direction is a match. We’re looking at a waist-high swell of 3ft coming from the west, with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 231, so there’s some push behind it. The real treat here is the wind: a clean, cross-offshore breeze from the east at 12 mph. That will keep the surface glassy. The water temperature is about average for the time of year so nothing unusual there. The afternoon also holds some clean surf at 3ft, but it’s smaller, so the morning is definitely the pick. Crowds are likely at Godrevy, so get there early.
Before that, the week is a grind. The 5th and 6th of July have onshore winds and tiny surf, nothing you’d bother with. There’s a brief moment on the morning of Tuesday the 7th of July with glassy conditions and a 2ft swell, but it’s very weak with combined energy of only 62. It’s surfable if you’re desperate, but it’s really ordinary. The rest of the week through to the 13th is plagued by cross-on or strong onshore winds, with the swell staying small and weak. The combined energy values are mostly low, under 100, confirming the lack of power.
The 13th of July has a clean cross-offshore wind, but the swell is tiny. The 16th of July sees a jump in size to 7ft from the north, but the period is a short 7 seconds and the wind is a messy cross-on or cross-shore, making it a poor, lumpy option. The 17th is similar with 5ft from the north but a short period and lumpy conditions. By the 18th and 19th, it’s back to messy onshore winds and fading swell. The 20th of July finishes with a tiny, cross-shore windswell.
So, for the next week, sit tight. The only real reason to get wet is that Tuesday morning on the 14th at Godrevy. It’s not going to be world-class, but it’s the cleanest, most consistent option in the whole forecast.
Rusty.
