Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get into it. The window ahead is pretty tough for Cornwall, with only a quick flash of decent surf early on, then a long stretch of poor conditions before a more interesting but uncertain pulse shows up in the second week.
Friday the 3rd of July morning is your one clear standout. Godrevy wakes up clean with glassy conditions—wind is light out of the southwest at 3 mph. There’s a 5 ft swell rolling in from the west with a solid 10-second period, carrying a combined energy of 395 (moderate energy). The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild to report. This is a beginner-friendly wave and fairly consistent, though you can expect the usual summer crowds here often. Still, for the size, the west swell lines up nicely with the optimum direction, so it’s a proper little session.
From Friday afternoon onward, things go south. The same west swell hangs around, but the wind swings and strengthens, turning messy. Onshore and cross-onshore winds kick in through the weekend and the first half of the following week. Heights drop from 4 ft down to barely 2 ft by the end of the first week. Periods stay around 8 to 10 seconds, but combined energy sinks from 354 down to 47 (weak). The wave quality is poor across the board, with chop and cross-chop making it a frustrating paddle. Honestly, from Friday afternoon all the way through to Sunday the 12th of July, there’s nothing worth getting excited about at all.
Now, Monday the 13th of July brings a change. A pulse of bigger swell arrives—7 ft from the west-northwest early morning, a 12-second period, and combined energy jumps way up to 1336 (strong). But here’s the kicker: the wind is onshore from the northwest at 12 mph, and it’s classified as marginal at best. That’s a lot of water moving, but with poor conditions it’s more of a messy, bumpy beast. This setup at Godrevy, being an exposed beach, might actually be more interesting for the kite crowd than standard paddle surfing. Still, for any experienced crew who can handle the chop on a big board, there’s raw power.
After that, Tuesday the 14th to Thursday the 16th of July sees the swell backing off again to 4 ft–5 ft, but the wind remains onshore or cross-onshore, and combined energy sits in the 100–400 range (weak to moderate). The wave comment stays poor or marginal.
Then Friday the 17th of July throws another punch. You get a 7 ft to 7 ft swell, but this time it’s coming from the north (off the optimum for Godrevy) and with a short period of just 7 seconds—so more windswell than proper groundswell. Combined energy is up at 577 to 620 (moderate to strong), but with cross-shore winds and that short period, it’s going to be lumpy and hard to love. Marginal again. Given the size (over 7 ft), this is experts-only territory.
Saturday the 18th of July morning sees the swell still around 6 ft from the north, with cross-offshore winds from the south-southwest at 16 mph. The combined energy is 425 (moderate), but poor conditions mean it’s still not a clean, easy session.
To sum it up: If you want clean waves, your only real shot is Friday morning, July 3rd. After that, there’s a big dry spell with no good options for over a week. The bigger pulses around the 13th and 17th have energy but come with messy wind—keep expectations low and your wetsuit zipped.
