Table - best surf conditions forecast for Godrevy over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it’s a pretty grim outlook for Godrevy. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor surf conditions right through the 16-day window. The best I can say is that there are a few afternoons where it’s not completely unsurfable, but there’s nothing that gets me truly excited. The overall pattern is small, weak, and often messy.
Let’s start with the first few days. Thursday the 9th through to the weekend are all poor. The swell is tiny, only around 2ft to 3ft, coming from the WNW or W with a short period of 9 to 10 seconds. The combined energy is weak, reading between 93 and 125. The wind is mostly cross or cross-on, so it’s choppy and small. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see cleaner conditions with cross-offshore winds, but the swell drops to 2ft and the energy plummets to 52. It’s clean but ridiculously small.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th bring a fresh breeze, with a brief window of offshore wind on Tuesday morning. The swell is a pathetic 0.7ft to 1ft, with a very long period of 18-19 seconds from the SSW. The energy is moderate at 107 on Tuesday morning, but the size is just not there. Tuesday afternoon is the only time the forecast says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," scoring a 1 out of 10. That’s the best of a very bad bunch, but it’s barely a knee-high ripple on a very long period groundswell, which is a tricky combination for a beach break like Godrevy.
From Wednesday the 15th onwards, it’s a whole lot of onshore wind and tiny waves. The wind swings onshore from the WNW and NNW, the swell stays under 3ft, and the energy is weak, often below 100. It’s just not worth paddling out for most of it.
The only standouts, if you can call them that, are the Tuesday the 14th afternoon session. The water temperature is 61°F, which is about average for the time of year. The wind is a gentle offshore, so the surface will be clean. But you’ll be fighting 0.7ft waves with a very long period, so it’s more of a float than a surf. For a beginner spot like Godrevy, anything over 5ft could be too much, but here we are stuck with the opposite problem.
Bottom line: this is a 16-day blank run. There’s nothing to get excited about. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, I’d say it won’t stay this poor forever, but for now, the forecast is looking pretty stale. The setups here are more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on the days with a bit of wind and the tiniest bit of chop.
Rusty.
