The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the table.
First up, the only game in town for this whole 16-day stretch is Godrevy. And I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough outlook. There’s a big gap right at the start with no surf worth mentioning, and the first half of the period is pretty bleak. The water’s sitting at 64°F right now, which is about average for the time of year – nothing wild there.
Things start looking a little less sorry by Wednesday, August 26th. That morning has a bit of swell running at 4ft from the SSW with a short 7-second period, and it’s clean, but it’s only marginal. The real highlight of the whole window pops up on Wednesday afternoon: 5ft swell from the SSW, 8-second period, with light cross-offshore wind and clean conditions. That’s your best bet – a fun, surfable window where the wave energy is moderate (345). It’s not huge, but it’s the only time the forecast really says “expect good surf.”
After that, it’s back to poor surf for days. There’s a bit of a pulse later – Saturday, August 29th morning sees 8ft from the W, but with moderate cross-onshore wind and choppy conditions, it’s messy. That’s more for the experienced crew if you’re desperate, but the quality is poor.
Overall, the first week is a write-off, and the second week doesn’t offer much either. If you’re a beginner, that Wednesday afternoon window is your only shot at something manageable. Crowds are possible at Godrevy, especially if it’s the only clean wave around. For the rest, it’s a case of wait and see – forecasts change, but right now, there’s not a lot to get excited about.
Rusty.
