Table - best surf conditions forecast for Polzeath over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Polzeath over the next couple of weeks.
Overall, it’s a pretty bleak picture for the foreseeable future. Honestly, for the vast majority of this 16-day window, the surf is going to be flat to tiny, with messy wind messing up just about everything. We’re looking at a solid run of days where you’d be better off doing pretty much anything else. There’s a real gap here from Thursday the 9th all the way through to the end of the window, with only a few brief moments of clean, rideable waves, and even those are pretty ordinary.
Let’s start with the opening day. Thursday morning, July 9th, we’ve got a tiny bit of life. Polzeath is a beach and point setup, and it’s fairly exposed to the west-northwest, which is the optimum direction. The swell is a measly 3 ft from the west with a 10-second period, giving us a moderate wave energy of 123. The wind is a light 6 mph cross-offshore from the north, so it’ll be clean. But it’s not really what you’d call a stand-out session. The waves are surfable, but just barely. It’s very ordinary.
Friday morning, the 10th, we see a similar story: 3 ft from the west, cross-offshore breeze, and slightly better energy at 137. Again, clean, but still small and unremarkable.
After that, things go downhill fast. From Saturday the 11th onwards, the swell drops right off, and the wind goes all over the place. There are some days with offshore winds, like Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th, but the swell is pitiful – 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft – and the period is all over the place, sometimes very long from the southwest, which is useless for this beach. The combined energy drops to 24 or 64, which is weak. The wind might be clean, but there’s nothing to surf.
Then from the 15th, the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell stays tiny. It’s a write-off. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The one thing that jumps out, way down the track, is Friday morning, July 24th. That’s over two weeks away, so take it with a grain of salt, but it’s the only real pulse of swell in the whole forecast. The swell jumps to 6 ft from the west-northwest with a short 6-second period, producing a strong wave energy of 225. The wind is a light onshore breeze from the west-northwest, so it’ll be a bit lumpy. The size is getting into the “too big for beginners” territory, and the short period means it’ll be a bit soft and messy. It’s not a classic, but honestly, in this run of nothing, it’s the only one that looks like it might offer a proper ride. For the experienced crew, it might be worth a look, but don’t expect perfection.
So, to sum it up: the first week is flat and poor. The second week is flat and poor. The only glimmer of hope is that pulse on the 24th, and even that’s a gamble. Hold tight, and check back in a few days.
Rusty.
