Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crab Island over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's cut to the chase. We've got a flat run ahead of us for the next couple of weeks. There's no standout swell to get excited about, so we're looking at a long stretch of small, weak waves. It's one of those periods where you might just want to save the gas money for a while.
We're starting off with a blank. The first opportunity to even think about a paddle comes on Wednesday morning at Crab Island, but don't get your hopes up. It's a small 1ft groundswell from the WSW, but the swell energy is a measly (23), and it's labeled as poor surf conditions. On the plus side, the wind is glassy from the south at just 3 mph, so the water will be like a mirror. The water temp is pretty average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.
Thursday morning looks similar with that same 1ft swell, glassy calm winds, but the energy is still weak (32). The wait between sets will be long because the period is 10 seconds. It's not going to be rideable.
The pattern just continues with tiny, weak swell all through the first week and into the second. By Thursday, July 17th the swell drops to a desperate 0.7ft. It’s a long, dry spell.
The only real change in character happens around Sunday, July 12th and Monday, July 13th. We get a quick little bump from the east, up to 3ft. But the period is a dreadful 4 seconds—that’s pure wind chop, not surf. It’s basically just messy whitewater. The wind is cross-offshore at 16 mph, so it’ll be clean on the surface, but the wave energy is still weak (27). Not worth a paddle.
There is another very brief spike on Thursday, July 16th with a 3ft, 4-second windswell from the east, combined with a nice offshore NNE wind at 12 mph. That’s clean, but again, the period is just too short to produce any proper shape. The energy is still low (40).
After that, it fades away completely. From Friday, July 17th all the way through to the end of the forecast on Thursday, July 23rd, we are looking at swell heights between 0.3ft and 1ft. There is simply no surfable energy at all. It's a total flat spell for over a week.
Bottom line: Crab Island is a reef break that needs a proper SW groundswell to do its thing, and that just isn't showing up. There's nothing to recommend here. The whole 16-day window is a washout for surfing.
Rusty.
