Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's cookin'.
Honestly, mate, I've got to be straight with you. Looking at the whole 16-day window for Crab Island, it's a tough stretch. There's a massive gap of flat, poor conditions right from the start. The first row with any surf recommendation is a zero score, and it stays that way for the entire run, so there's basically no decent surf on offer at all for this whole period.
The earliest we see any surf is Friday the 3rd of July, but it's tiny - a 3ft swell from the WSW with a cross wind at 12 mph and a moderate cross-chop. The combined swell energy is weak at 135, and it's labelled as poor surf conditions. That sets the theme.
Moving through the week, we get a bit more size on Saturday the 4th afternoon, with a 4ft WSW swell, but the period is a short 6 seconds and the wind is a messy 16 mph cross. This is just sloppy, choppy junk.
For the next week or so, from the 5th of July right through to the 18th of July, it's nearly all the same: tiny swells mostly under 2ft, short and weak periods, and constant cross or cross-onshore winds. There are a couple of clean moments - like Tuesday morning the 7th with a light cross-offshore, and Thursday afternoon the 9th with a clean offshore - but the swell is barely 1.0ft. It's not surfable.
There's no standout in this whole outlook. Nothing is good enough to recommend. For a reef break that needs a decent southwest swell to light up, this is a barren run. We get a sniff of a very long-period swell on the 13th and 14th of July, 18 and 19 seconds from the SW, but the height is only 0.3ft. That's barely a bump.
This is one of those times where the forecast is just a write-off. A blank run like this is more normal for the area when the swell windows close up. We just have to wait for the next system to roll in. Forecasts change, but right now, there's no joy.
Rusty.
