Alright, this is Rusty here, and I've gotta be straight with you – it's gonna be a real quiet stretch for Crab Island. There's just no surf worth paddling out for in this whole 16-day window. That first record kicks off on Saturday the 4th of July, but it's all poor conditions from there, right through to the end.
Let's start with the bigger picture. Through the first week, the swell is tiny – we're looking at maybe 1 ft to 4 ft from the WSW and W, but the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the wave energy is just gutless, with readings like 154 (weak) and then dropping to double digits. The combo of small waves and rubbish wind means the surf is flat, messy, and not worth a second look.
Saturday the 4th sees a faint pulse of 4 ft swell from the WSW, but it's a short 6-second period and cross-shore wind at 16 mph, so forget it. Sunday the 5th drops to 2 ft, and the theme continues. Even when we get a glassy moment on Saturday the 11th, the swell is only 1 ft and the energy is 23 – just a flat, oily lake. The odd clean window pops up, like Thursday afternoon the 9th with light cross-offshore wind, but again, 1 ft at best.
Into the second week, it gets even smaller. From the 13th of July onward, we're down to 0.3 ft–0.7 ft with long-period groundswell from the SW and W (19 seconds on the 13th), but that's just noise in the water, not surfable waves. Winds pick up too – a strong breeze from the E on the 14th at 25 mph, which is just ugly.
There's a slight uptick on the 19th of July with 4 ft from the ESE, but the period is only 5 seconds and the wind is cross-shore again. The energy is 56 – still weak. That's a week and a half away, and with no consistency and poor quality, I wouldn't hold my breath.
No standouts here, folks. This is one of those blank runs where Mother Nature just isn't cooperating. It tends not to stay this flat forever, but for now, the board stays in the van. Keep an eye on the forecast, because things can flip.
Rusty.
