Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crab Island over the next 16 days.
Alright, surfers. Rusty here, and I’ve got to level with you right from the start… we’re looking at a real dud of a stretch ahead. There’s nothing but "poor surf conditions" for the entire 16-day window. Flat spells are one thing, but when the energy is that low that consistently, it’s a proper blank run. For a spot like Crab Island, this sort of quiet run is pretty normal for this time of year, so don’t go blaming yourself for missing a forecast.
We start off on Monday the 13th with a small, weak easterly windswell. The combined energy is just 29, which is barely a ripple. A stiff 16 mph cross-offshore wind will make it look clean, but with a swell height of only 3 ft and a short, weak 4-second period, it’s not something you’d paddle out for. By Monday afternoon, that tiny swell has collapsed to almost nothing.
The rest of the first week is a dead loss. Tuesday morning through to the following Monday all show waves under 1.0 ft and combined energy values crawling in the single or low double digits. For example, Thursday the 16th morning has a combined energy of just 9. Glassy conditions pop up here and there—like Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon—but there’s physically nothing to surf.
Moving into the second week, we see a slight increase in size around Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd, but the swell direction shifts from the west to the southeast, and the period stays brutally short (3 to 4 seconds). The combined energy eventually climbs to 22 on Friday the 24th morning, but with 16 mph winds blowing across the face, it’s just messy, onshore junk.
The only *notable* bump in the entire run comes right at the tail end. On Monday the 27th, a southwest swell pushes the height up to 6 ft, with a combined energy of 337. That’s moderate energy finally. But the wind is howling from the southwest at 22 mph, blowing straight onshore, and the period is a weak 7 seconds. It’s going to be lumpy, blown-out, and frankly, more fun for the kite crew than for anyone with a paddle. By Tuesday the 28th, the swell drops to 5 ft but with a longer 10-second period and energy of 477, cross-shore winds of 16 mph. Still, the rating is zero across the whole forecast. Not a single standout moment in the lot.
So yeah, there are no good surf options here for the next 16 days. It’s one of those bleak stretches where you just leave the boards in the car and find a different hobby for a while. Forecasts can change, but this one is stubborn.
Rusty.
