The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be honest, this is a grim one for the next two weeks. We’ve got a long, stubborn flat spell ahead. The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Monday, July 27th, and even then it’s just a whisper. So, for the next week, you’re looking at a solid 8-day gap with pretty much nothing rideable. The models are showing tiny, weak swell with poor conditions, and the energy is rock bottom. It’s one of those stretches where the ocean just takes a nap.
Langland Point is the only break doing anything, and it’s a frustrating tease. The best chance you’ll get is on Thursday morning, July 23rd. The wind goes glassy with a light offshore breeze, and the water is about average for the time of year. The swell is pathetic though, only 0.7 ft from the west with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is a measly (10), so it’s barely a ripple. If you’re desperate, you might find a knee-high wobble, but it’s really just for the longboard or a swim.
Then on Monday morning, July 27th, we see a tiny pulse. The swell picks up to 3 ft from the west-southwest, but with a short period of 6 seconds and moderate cross-offshore winds, it’s going to be weak and messy. The energy jumps to (53), but that’s still very weak. Same story on Tuesday morning, July 28th – 2 ft from the west, period of 9 seconds, energy (78), and clean winds. The wave quality is still rated as poor though. It’s not surfable for a proper session.
The lookahead to the first of August brings a bit more size, but also more wind. Saturday morning, August 1st shows 3 ft from the west-southwest (57 energy) but with onshore winds from the SSE, making it choppy. By Sunday, August 2nd and Monday, August 3rd, we get rain showers and strong cross-shore winds pushing 18-22 mph, with lumpy, choppy conditions. The swell is in the 2 ft to 2 ft range with short periods, so it’s junk. Honestly, given the poor quality, strong wind, and beach-and-point setup, this looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer towards the end of the run.
There is no standout here. The best on offer is that glassy Thursday, July 23rd, but only if you’re happy with a flat, clean lake. Patience is key.
Rusty.
