The Lowdown
Alright, let's talk about Langland Point. It's been a rough stretch, and honestly, the next week and a half is mostly going to be about finding any kind of bump to ride. The swell energy is weak, we're looking at values in the low double digits, and the winds aren't doing us any favors. The magic that we need just isn't there. It's flat, it's lumpy, and it's going to test your patience.
Looking at the next few days, starting this Friday the 21st, we've got a small 2ft WSW swell, but that onshore breeze is just making things messy. It's not worth your time. The weekend stays tiny, with 1ft on Saturday morning. Sunday you'll see maybe a foot if you're lucky. There's a lot of nothing on the table.
Then we get into next week, and it's more of the same story. Monday the 24th is still small, and Tuesday the 25th kicks up some short-period ESE windswell to about 3ft, but it's coming with a fresh cross-onshore wind that's going to chop it all up. You'd be fighting it the whole time. The water temp is sitting at 70° which is about 9° warmer than normal, so at least you won't be cold while you're waiting for a wave.
Wednesday the 26th sees a little more size, around 4ft in the afternoon, but again, the wind is fresh and cross-onshore. It's messy. Thursday the 27th is a tease. We get a glassy morning and a 3ft WSW swell, and it'll be surfable, but it's just ordinary. Not worth a special trip.
The 28th and 29th offer up some stronger swell, with the 28th seeing 6ft in the afternoon, and the energy jumps up to 255 (moderate). But the wind isn't good. The 30th has even more size, 6ft in the morning, with a strong energy of 376, but it's still choppy from a cross-onshore wind. The whole period just seems like the ocean has no idea what it wants to do, and you're stuck with a mix of poor shape and decent size.
The first of September is more of the same. It's not until Wednesday the 2nd that things start getting serious, with a 8ft WSW swell and energy jumping up to 800 (strong). However, with a strong cross-onshore wind, the conditions are going to be poor and lumpy. It's going to be a washing machine out there. That's not your wave. If the wind was right, this would be big, but it isn't.
Now here's the thing to get excited about. The real window opens up on Thursday the 3rd. The swell is still solid at 7ft in the morning, but the wind goes offshore from the NE. It's still a bit big for the faint-hearted, but the afternoon cleans up a bit at 5ft with that same offshore wind. Friday the 4th is looking sweet. A 6ft WSW groundswell, with a 7-second period, but with a moderate offshore wind from the N. This is where it all comes together. The energy is strong at 360, and the wind is off. The waves will be hollow and clean.
And then, Saturday the 5th is the standout of the whole stretch. A 5ft W swell, with a light offshore wind, and glassy conditions. It's the cleanest, most user-friendly size of the whole period. It'll be consistent, and the point should be handling it well, not too much of a close-out. It's the one you've been waiting for. The shape should be there, and it'll feel like a reward for the long dry spell.
So, my honest read is: skip the nonsense for the next week. You'll be frustrated. Aim for the 3rd and 4th if you're up for a bigger, more powerful wave, but mark Saturday the 5th in your calendar. That's the day. The forecast is a week out, so don't hold me to it, but it's got all the right signs. It's been too long since we had a day like that.
Rusty.
