Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you on this one – it’s a tough stretch for Langland Point. We’re looking at a long, dry spell of flat, weak conditions before things finally get interesting right at the very end of the 16-day window.
The water temp is sitting at 68° which is a full 9° warmer than usual for this time of year – that's a wild anomaly. You’ll be sweating in your wetsuit if you’re thinking about paddling out.
Right now, through the first week of July and into the second, it’s basically a write-off. The swell is tiny, mostly under 2ft, and the combined energy is pathetic – often reading as low as 5 to 75 (weak energy). The wind is mostly cross or cross-on, and while there are a few glassy moments on the 8th and 11th, there’s just no swell to work with. It’s a frustrating combo of no power and poor surf quality. This is a real quiet spell for the area.
You’ll have to wait all the way to the 19th of July – that’s a Sunday – for a pulse. The morning shows a junky 4ft from the WSW with a period of only 5 seconds, so it’s choppy, wind-affected, and messy. That afternoon, the swell pushes up to 6ft from the WSW, with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 278 (moderate energy). This is still a cross-shore mess, but it’s the first sign of life.
The real standout, and the only one worth getting excited about, is the 20th of July (Monday morning). Langland Point will see a solid 5ft swell from the W with a 9-second period. The combined energy is a solid 363 (moderate energy). The wind is a cross-offshore from the NW at 19 mph, which will keep the surface clean. This is a proper winter-style pulse for a point break. The 5ft is manageable for intermediates but might be pushing it for beginners. The afternoon stays clean, with 4ft from the WSW and an even better energy reading of 557 (strong wave energy).
So, for the whole 16-day run, the only call is dawn patrol on the 20th of July. Everything else is a flat, frustrating wait. Hang in there.
Rusty.
