The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are a bit of a write-off for Langland Point. We're looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple to get excited about, so don't be in a rush to wax up.
The whole first week and a bit is flat. From now through to the end of July, we're talking tiny, near-nothing surf. The swell energy is basically non-existent, with readings as low as 1 to 10 (the combined energy of all swells directed here). It's a tough stretch. The water is about average for the time of year, nothing to write home about temperature-wise.
There is a glimmer of hope, but it's a long way off. Sunday the 26th of July finally sees a pulse of swell, with 3ft from the West. The energy kicks up to 84, which is at least something. The morning looks the best of that day, with a clean cross-off wind from the W at 9 mph. It's a short period swell at 6 seconds, so the waves will be a bit soft and crumbly, not a lot of punch. Still, it's the first rideable surf we've seen.
Monday the 27th of July drops back to 3ft, and the energy is half that. By Tuesday the 28th of July, we're back to flat again. Then we get another little bump on the 29th of July, with 3ft from the West again, but the wind is a cross-on mess from the SW at 9 mph, making it choppy and uninviting.
The best-looking day in the whole outlook is probably Monday the 3rd of August. We get a clean 1.0ft swell from the WSW, with a period of 11 seconds. The wind is offshore from the NNW at 6 mph in the morning, leaving the surface glassy. The combined energy is 29, so it's still tiny, but for a wave that small, a long period groundswell like that means it'll have a bit more shape and push than the usual wind slop. It's a true micro-session, but it's the best on offer.
Honestly, if you're desperate for a paddle, Sunday the 26th is your best bet, but keep your expectations on the floor. This is a classic summer flat spell for Langland. It won't stay poor forever, but right now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
