The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the next couple of weeks for Langland Point.
Well, the honest truth is it’s a rough run. We’re looking at a long, frustrating stretch of small, weak, and windy conditions. For the first week and a half, the swell energy is just pathetic — we’re seeing combined energies of 34, 12, 28… honestly, numbers that wouldn’t push a sea duck across a pond. The water is a toasty 70°, which is a whopping 9° warmer than usual for this time of year, so the sea feels like a bath, but there’s nothing to surf on.
Monday the 17th through to Saturday the 29th of August is a write-off. The fetch is coming mostly from the W and WSW, but the period is short — mostly 6 to 8 seconds — and the wind is nearly always cross or cross-off and fresh. It’s just messy or tiny. Even the few glassy moments on the 21st, 24th, and 25th are on swell of 2ft or less. There’s nothing to get excited about.
Now, there is a potential glimmer way out in the second week. On Sunday the 30th of August morning, we see a bit of life. The swell lifts to 5ft from the WSW at 7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 397 — moderate, which is a step up. The wind is a light offshore cross-off from the WNW at only 6 mph. That’s where you want to be. It’s not perfect, but after two weeks of nothing, a clean 5ft day with light wind is your only real window.
Monday the 31st of August pushes a bit of size too, with 5ft to 5ft from the WSW and energy hitting 476 to 650… but the wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-off, which will blow the surface out. It’s more of a windswell day; for the experts only if you want to wrestle that chop.
If I’m being straight with you, and I always am, the one standout in this whole 16-day outlook is Sunday the 30th of August morning. The rest of the time, you’re better off waxing your board for next month.
Rusty.
