The Lowdown
Alright, let's talk about Langland Bay. I'll be straight with you – this forecast is a bit of a tough one. The water temperature is 70°, which is a massive 9° warmer than usual for this time of year. You're not going to need a winter suit, that's for sure.
Right now and for the next week or so, we're looking at a real flat spell. There's barely any energy in the water – we're seeing combined wave energy readings as low as 14 (that's next to nothing). Saturday the 22nd kicks off with a tiny 1ft swell from the WSW and a period of 10 seconds, but with a 5 km/h offshore breeze it would be glassy. Unfortunately, it's just too small to ride. That same tiny size carries through Sunday and Monday. By Monday the 24th, get ready for some strong easterly winds at 22 mph making a mess of things.
The first real sign of life doesn't show up until Thursday the 27th afternoon. We get a 4ft swell from the SW with a short 8-second period. The combined energy jumps to 210, which is moderate, but the wind is onshore from the SSW at 16 mph. It's going to be lumpy and poor. Friday the 28th afternoon looks a bit more interesting with a 5ft swell from the W, and the wind swings to a cross-offshore from the NNW at 16 mph. The energy hits 516 – that's strong – but the wave comment still says "poor surf conditions." The setup could be cleaner, but it's not looking like a classic.
There's a big gap of days with no real recommendations. You'll be waiting until Thursday the 3rd of September for the first hint of something marginal. Thursday morning shows a 5ft swell from the WSW at 8 seconds with light cross-shore winds, which finally gets a score of 1 out of 10, described as "marginal surf forecast." The energy is 274 (moderate). That afternoon, the swell bumps up to 6ft but the wind goes cross-onshore, bringing heavy chop. Friday the 4th keeps that 5ft to 5ft range from the WSW with fresh cross-shore winds – still messy. The best of a bad bunch is probably the afternoon of Friday the 4th, but it's not what you'd drive for.
Honestly, for the next 16 days, there isn't a standout session. The swell is either too small, too short-period, or the wind is tearing it up. The few times we get some size over 5ft, the conditions are poor. If you're desperate, maybe check Friday 28th afternoon for a peaky, wind-affected wave, or the marginal window on Thursday 3rd morning. But I'd say keep your board in the car and watch the forecasts change – it tends not to stay this bad for long.
