Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s going on at Langland Bay over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. The opening of the period is pretty grim, and it stays that way for a long, long time.
We kick off Friday the 3rd of July, and there’s nothing doing. Tiny, weak swell around 3ft from the WSW, but the wind is all wrong – cross-on and choppy, making it a write-off. The combined energy is a weak 133, and it just doesn’t get any better. Saturday is more of the same, with a bit of height but period dropping to a low 6 seconds, so the waves are weak and junky, and the wind is still messy. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday... it’s all tiny, with most days seeing waves under 2ft. A couple of clean windows on Sunday the 5th morning and Tuesday the 7th have some cross-off or light winds, but there’s simply no power behind it. The energy numbers are all well under 100, barely registering. This is a real flat spell.
There’s a long, frustrating gap here with no worthwhile surf. Nothing recommended until we finally see a pulse of life on Monday the 13th of July. That morning, the wind goes glassy – that’s the first bit of good news we’ve had. The swell picks up to 2ft from the west with a longer period of 12 seconds, giving us a burst of moderate energy at 97. It’s the only day with a score of 1, which tells you how desperate it’s been, but it’s our standout. The water temp is about average for the time of year. This is the one to keep an eye on; it’s clean and the longer period groundswell could wrap in with a little shape, though it won’t be big. But the afternoon gets ruined again as the wind swings cross-shore and chops it up. After that, the swell tries to push through Thursday the 16th with a bit more height, hitting 3-3ft and moderate energy levels (144-173), but the wind is consistently cross-on or cross-shore, so expect bumpy, ordinary conditions.
Honestly, if you’re itching for a paddle, your best shot is the glassy window on Monday the 13th morning. Don’t expect much else. This area can go quiet like this, and a blank run like this isn’t unheard of. Hang in there.
Rusty.
