Table - best surf conditions forecast for Langland Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Langland Bay has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – this forecast is a tough one. The models are showing a whole lot of nothing for the first week and a half, with hardly any surf to get excited about. We’ve got a big gap of poor conditions leading up to something that might finally show a pulse.
The water temperature is sitting at 68°, which is a whopping 9° warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s very unusual, and you’ll be feeling that bath-like warmth if you do get in.
Right now, through the first week, it’s a desert. From Friday the 10th right through to the morning of Monday the 21st, it’s all poor surf conditions. We’re talking tiny, weak waves with combined energy readings mostly under 100 – a lot of it in the teens and twenties. The swell is small and the wind is all over the place. There’s a brief moment on Saturday morning the 11th where the wind goes glassy, but the swell is only 1.0 ft. It’s not worth paddling out for.
The first real flicker of life shows up on the morning of Monday the 21st of July. We get a 4 ft swell from the west with a 7-second period. The combined energy finally climbs to 109 (moderate), but the wind is a gentle cross-shore breeze, making for a slight cross-chop. It’s still labelled as poor surf conditions, so don’t expect magic.
The standout window, and the only one I’d point you toward, is the morning of Saturday the 25th of July. Langland Bay is a fairly exposed spot that works best on a SW swell. On Saturday morning, we’ve got a 5 ft swell from the WSW wrapping in with an 8-second period. The combined energy hits 253 (moderate), which is the strongest we’ve seen in the whole run. The wind is a cross-offshore breeze from the WNW at 12 mph, keeping things clean. This is a solid, punchy wave for intermediate surfers. It’s not huge, but it’s the best on offer. The afternoon sees the swell drop a touch to 4 ft from the west with a 9-second period, but the wind swings more cross-shore, so the morning is the call.
Keep in mind, this is a long-range call, so it’s promising but less certain. For the rest of the run, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
