The Lowdown
Alright, let’s keep it real. For the next 16 days at Langland Bay, you can pretty much leave your board in the car. I’ve been through the numbers, and there’s just nothing worth paddling out for. It’s a flat spell that runs the whole length of the forecast.
The water is a proper talking point, though. It’s 69°F, which is a mad 9°F warmer than it should be for July. That’s a serious marine heatwave, so you’ll be sweating in your wetsuit while you’re waiting for a wave that never comes.
The first week, from the 16th to the 24th, is a total write-off. We’re looking at swell heights of 0.3ft to 0.7ft. The wave energy is pathetic, mostly single-digit numbers like 1 or 6 (weak energy). There are a few glassy mornings, like Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, which would be nice for a float, but there’s nothing to ride. The wind comes and goes, but it doesn’t matter when there’s no wave.
We get a tiny bump around the 24th, but it’s still rubbish. The swell gets up to 3ft by the 25th, but the period is a shocking 4 or 5 seconds. That’s just wind chop, not a real swell. The energy gets into double digits, hitting 31 (moderate energy) on the 25th afternoon, but it’s a messy cross-shore with a cross-chop. It’s not surfable.
Right at the end, from the 29th of July through the 31st, the swell finally pushes over 3ft. On the 29th afternoon, we get 4ft from the WSW with a 7-second period, and the energy hits 101 (moderate wave energy). But the wind is a gentle cross-shore, leaving it a bit choppy, and the quality is still poor. It’s a cruel tease. By the 31st, the wind is howling at 25 mph onshore, turning it into a total mess. Honestly, for the whole 16 days, the swell is weak, the period is short, and the conditions are just not there. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
There’s nothing to get excited about. It’s a flat run. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a total blank.
