Table - best surf conditions forecast for Langland Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, let's have a look at what's happening in our little corner of the coast. I'm talkin' about Langland Bay here.
Honestly, for the next week or so, it's a bit of a bummer. We've got a long stretch of flat to tiny, weak waves. The water's cooked though – a solid 68° and running much warmer than normal for this time of year. That's nice for a swim, but not for riding.
From now through to about the 23rd of July, it's a whole lot of nothing. We're talkin' swell under 3ft most days, with combined wave energy barely registering, often under 50. The wind's all over the shop – cross, cross-off, even some glassy patches, but with no swell to work with, it's just a flat lake. There's a couple of clean afternoons, like Tuesday the 14th and Thursday the 16th, with glassy conditions, but the wave heights are just 0.3ft to 0.7ft. You'd need a leaf to surf that.
We finally get a little pulse of hope on the 24th of July. Friday morning the swell jumps to 5ft from the WSW, period around 6 seconds, and the energy climbs to 194. The wind's a light cross-onshore from the SW. Then Friday afternoon, it gets a bit more serious – 8ft from the WSW, period bumping to 8 seconds and energy hitting 785. The wind is cross from the WSW at 12 mph which will mean some chop on the face. That size is getting into the bigger stuff, more for your experienced crew.
The 25th of July, Saturday morning, still has some decent swell at 5ft from the west, period 9 seconds and energy around 332. But the wind is onshore from the SSE at 6 mph, which will mess with the surface. The afternoon cleans up a bit but the swell drops.
So, if you had to pick the one standout, it's that Friday afternoon session on the 24th of July. The 8ft swell is the biggest of the whole run. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it'll be a bit crumbly and won't have that long-period grunt. It'll be a challenge, and the moderate cross-breeze will make it bumpy, but it's the biggest push of energy we've seen. This isn't a beginner’s wave at all.
Other than that, there's just not much on offer. A long, quiet run for Langland. Forecasts can change, but right now I'd say keep the board in the car and the wetsuit dry for most of this stretch.
Rusty.
