The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on offer for Langland Bay over the next couple of weeks.
Truth be told, mate, it's a pretty quiet run for the most part. The water's sitting at a very warm 70.2°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like a proper summer bath. We've got a bit of a wait on our hands for anything decent. The first few days are all poor surf conditions with tiny waves and messy winds. There's a long gap through the middle of the period where the swell drops right out, with barely a ripple from the 22nd of August through to the 25th. The models are showing a bit of a pulse kicking in around the 26th, but it's still got poor conditions attached right up until the 30th of August.
The standout window looks to be on the morning of Sunday the 30th of August. We've got some swell picking up to 5.2 ft from the WSW, with a period of 7 seconds and a combined energy of 397 (moderate). The wind is a light breeze from the WNW, which is a cross-offshore – that'll keep the surface clean. The forecast says "expect good surf conditions," so this is the session to aim for. The water is still warm, and the break points are decent. Later that afternoon the wind swings cross-on and the conditions get choppy, so make it a morning mission.
After that, the 31st of August sees a jump in swell energy to 650 (moderate to strong), with 5.2 ft from the WSW and a period of 10 seconds, but the wind is a fresh 30 km/h (18.6 mph) cross-shore, and there's a risk of thunderstorms, so it's messy and lumpy. The first of September is pretty average with dropping swell and stronger onshore winds.
So, to wrap it up: the only real highlight is the morning of the 30th of August at Langland Bay. Get in the water early, grab a few clean ones, and call it a good day.
