The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at Langland Bay for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty bleak for a surf.
Right out of the gate, there's barely anything to get excited about. For nearly two full weeks, we’re looking at a run of poor conditions. The water is notably warm for this time of year, about 69°F, which is 8°F warmer than usual. That’s a real standout, but it does nothing for the waves.
We start off Sunday the 23rd with almost no swell – just a tiny 0.3ft from the SW. It's glassy in the afternoon, which is nice for a paddle, but there's nothing to ride. Monday the 24th through to Wednesday the 26th stays tiny, with wind messing things up.
We get a little bump on the 27th (Thursday morning) with a 3ft SW swell but the wind is cross-onshore. The combined energy is a moderate 139 but the quality just isn't there. That same story repeats through to the 30th – the swell gets a bit bigger, hitting 7ft on Saturday the 29th afternoon with a strong 392 energy reading, but the onshore wind and lumpy conditions ruin it.
There’s a brief moment of clarity on Monday the 31st of August morning with a clean 2ft W swell and cross-offshore winds. The swell is tiny, only 2ft, so it’s not going to get the heart racing much.
We then drift through the start of September into another flat spell until Friday the 4th of September. On Friday morning, we see the best potential of the entire outlook. A 8ft swell from the WSW with a moderate 885 energy reading and a gentle 9 mph W cross-shore breeze. That’s the only window that doesn’t look totally hopeless, though the forecast calls it marginal. After that, the wind gets ugly again on Saturday the 5th, and by Monday the 7th of September we’re looking at a solid 10ft to 12ft swell with a massive energy reading of 2039, but it’s pinned under a near-gale cross-shore wind. That setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So overall, the waves aren't on for a proper surf. Keep your eyes on the 4th of September morning, but don't hold your breath. Forecasts might change, but as it stands, it’s a long blank run.
Rusty.
