The Lowdown
Right, I’ve had a proper look at the charts for Langland Bay, and I’ll be honest with you, it’s a tough run ahead. The models are showing a real flat spell to kick things off, and then when the swell does show up, the wind just won’t play ball.
The first real pulse of energy we see is on Tuesday the 28th, with a building swell hitting 6ft from the WSW, but that’s accompanied by onshore and cross-onshore winds. The combined energy is strong (553) and then (343), but with those winds, it’s going to be a messy, choppy affair. Not the kind of session you write home about.
Now, if you’re an experienced surfer, keep your eyes on Saturday the 29th. The morning session is the standout here. We’ve got a solid 7ft swell from the WSW, and importantly, the wind swings to a clean cross-offshore from the WNW. The wave energy is really pumping at (1062), and the clean conditions should offer up some proper waves. At 7ft, this is one for the lads and lasses who know what they’re doing – it’ll be too much for beginners. The afternoon sees the swell drop slightly to 6ft and the energy back off to (466), but it stays clean.
Other than that morning window, it’s a pretty grim picture. The water is notably warm at 70° for this time of year, but that’s small comfort when the surf’s poor.
The rest of the forecast into the first week of September just looks like a write-off with onshore winds and messy, blown-out conditions. Honestly, if you’re keen on the 29th, be there early. Otherwise, it’s a long wait for something half-decent.
