The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Langland Bay. I’ve looked at the next 16 days, and I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s a quiet run for the most part. The first real chance of anything rideable doesn’t show up until the 26th of July, so you’re looking at a solid gap of nearly two weeks with nothing worth paddling out for. From the 14th right through to the 25th, it’s all tiny, weak slop – barely a ripple, with scores reflecting that. The water temp is sitting at 69°F, which is a staggering 10°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, and you’ll feel like you’re in a bath.
The only period that even gets a mention is from the 27th of July onward. On Monday the 27th, the morning brings a kick of 5ft swell from the WSW, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy climbs to 438 (moderate energy), but it’s coming in with a cross-onshore wind from the SE. That’s going to be a bit bumpy and messy. By the afternoon, the swell holds at 6ft from the same direction, energy at 294, but the wind shifts lighter from the SSE. It’s still cross-onshore, so expect some chop. The comment says it’s marginal, and I’d agree – it’s not clean, but if you’re desperate, there might be a few lumpy ones. The Tuesday the 28th brings more of the same, with 5ft to 4ft swell, but the wind gets stronger from the south and then southwest, making it rougher. The rain showers on Tuesday afternoon won’t help the vibe.
Honestly, there’s no standout day here. The conditions are too choppy, the swell is short-period windswell, and the break is a fairly exposed beach setup. With the wind and chop, this looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. If you’re a learner, even the 5ft is probably too much for you with the onshore wind. The best I can say is keep an eye on the 27th morning if you’re an expert and don’t mind a wrestling match, but don’t expect magic.
Rusty.
