Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Left over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what the next couple of weeks are shaping up like for The Left.
The outlook is a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got some swell on the cards, but the wind is going to be the main character for a while, and not always in a good way. Most of the time the conditions are going to be pretty ordinary, so we need to pick our moments.
The first real chance to get a wave is on Thursday the 9th of July. The early morning looks promising. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell coming from the west with a period of 9 seconds. The real winner here is the wind – light southerly, blowing straight offshore. The wave energy is moderate at best (235), but clean conditions make a huge difference. This is the standout of the whole period. It won’t be big, but it’ll be rideable and glassy.
After that, it gets pretty quiet. For the next week and a half, we’re looking at really small surf, mostly under 3ft, with periods of onshore or cross-shore winds. There are a few mornings where it’s clean, like Tuesday the 14th, with a 4ft west-northwest swell and a 10-second period, but the wind is cross-offshore and the energy is only moderate (272). Not bad, but not the day to call in sick for.
The pattern really only shifts again on Monday the 20th of July. We get a solid pulse of swell – 6ft from the west, with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps right up to 553, which is strong. But here’s the kicker: the wind is a moderate cross-onshore at 12-15 mph, creating a choppy mess. The size is getting into the zone where it’s more interesting for kites than for paddling, especially with the bumpy conditions. The quality is rated as poor. Tuesday the 21st still has some size (4ft) but the same cross-onshore wind keeps things messy.
So, to sum it up: your best bet is to point the car towards The Left for Thursday the 9th, early morning. Get in the water when it’s clean and small. Most of the rest of the two weeks is either too small, too windy, or too junky to get excited about. Keep an eye on the wind forecasts for those bigger days around the 20th, but as it stands, they’re not looking clean.
Stay patient. Rusty.
