Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Left over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee and let’s talk about The Left. The first week and a half is pretty grim, so don’t get your hopes up too early.
From Saturday the 11th through the middle of the month, the surf is mostly small, weak, and choppy. We’re talking swells of 0.3ft to 1ft, and the energy is low (273 to 39 on the scale). Winds are all over the place—cross, cross-off, and even some onshore—so the waves are going to be a mess. There’s a little pulse on Tuesday the 14th morning with a 12-second groundswell pushing 0.6ft, but the energy is still moderate (209), and the conditions are just “marginal.” Not worth paddling out for.
The real standout comes at the end of the second week. Keep your eyes on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th. The Left is a point break that works best with a NW swell, and that’s exactly what we’ve got. On Saturday the 25th morning, the wind turns light offshore from the S, and we’ll see clean 0.9ft from the WNW. Then Saturday afternoon goes glassy with a 1.0ft W swell and light ENE breeze, the energy is moderate (188), and the whole thing shapes up real nice. The water temp is about 55°F, which is normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a thick wetsuit.
Sunday the 26th morning brings the biggest wave of the window: 2ft from the W with a 9-second period, and the wind is cross-offshore from the SW. The energy jumps to strong (347), and the break will have some power. At 2ft, it’s a bit much for beginners, but for intermediates, it’s a solid option. The crowds can be a thing here sometimes, so expect a few others in the lineup.
The rest of the second week is mostly knee-high junk with onshore winds, so don’t bother. The best bet is that Saturday the 25th into Sunday the 26th—that’s your window.
Rusty.
