Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s ahead for The Left.
It’s a bit of a slow start this week, but patience is going to pay off. The first few days are a write-off. Thursday and Friday are blown out with strong cross-onshore winds and messy surf, so don’t bother paddling out. Saturday morning, the 4th of July, is where things start to turn – we’ve got an offshore breeze from the S at 12 mph, clean conditions, and a 5ft swell out of the west at 10 seconds. It’s not huge, but it’s the first real window. The water temp is sitting at 54°, which is about average for this time of year.
The real standout in this forecast is Friday morning, the 10th of July. This is the one to circle on your calendar. We’re looking at a solid 10ft groundswell from the WNW with a period of 11 seconds, and it’s glassy. The combined swell energy is pumping at 2116 – that’s strong stuff. This is expert-level surf only, the kind that gets your heart racing. It’ll be too big for beginners, but for the crew that knows how to handle a heavy left, this is about as good as it gets.
After that, the swell hangs in the 7ft to 8ft range through the weekend and into the following week, but the wind gets messy again on the 12th. The 14th of July (Tuesday) has a clean, cross-off breeze with a 7ft WSW swell, shaping up really well for an afternoon session.
There’s also a long-run highlight on Wednesday morning, the 15th of July. A 6ft WNW swell with a 9-second period and clean cross-off winds makes for a very solid option. It’s a bit further out, so less certain, but promising.
The Left is a point break, and it’s fairly consistent, so there’ll be waves most days, but the crowds are listed as “sometimes” – so expect company when the conditions line up. For the rest of the run, the second week sees some smaller, choppier days, but keep an eye on that 10th – that’s the one.
Rusty.
