Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
The Left is a point break, and it’s pretty exposed to the west-northwest, so it knows how to handle a solid swell. This 16-day window has a bit of a slow start, but there’s a real standout session that’s got my attention.
The first real action worth paddling for hits on Saturday, July 4th, in the morning. We’re looking at a 6 ft west swell rolling in with a solid 10-second period and moderate wave energy (561). The wind is a light, cross-off 9 mph from the southwest, which is going to keep the surface clean. The report says “expect very good surf conditions” and that’s no lie. The Left should be offering up some nice, lined-up point waves. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so nothing crazy there.
That Saturday afternoon, the wind swings around and picks up to 19 mph from the west, creating a cross-shore chop that just ruins it. Poor surf. Skip it.
Sunday, July 5th, is a letdown. The swell drops to 4 ft in the morning with a light cross-wind, but it’s described as marginal. The afternoon gets a little onshore bump from the north-northwest, but it’s too small and weak to get excited about.
Monday, July 6th, has small, weak waves – 2 ft to 3 ft. The wind is okay, but the energy is low (104 to 154). Only for the desperate.
Tuesday, July 7th, the swell kicks back up to 6 ft, but the wind is a cross-shore mess from the west at 16 mph. The morning is poor, and the afternoon is only marginal. A lot of energy (579-570) but no quality.
Wednesday, July 8th, and Thursday, July 9th, are more of the same – inconsistent wind and mediocre conditions. Thursday morning does go glassy, but with only 3 ft of swell, it’s a flat, clean session for the loggers.
Friday, July 10th, is tiny and not worth a mention.
Now, here’s the real gem. Saturday, July 11th, the morning has a 4 ft west swell with a 10-second period, and the wind is a clean, cross-off 9 mph from the southeast. The energy is moderate (232). It’s a surfline that’s clean and has a bit of shape. This is a solid mid-range option.
But the absolute standout, the one you should mark on your calendar, is Tuesday, July 14th, in the morning. We’ve got a 6 ft west swell, 9-second period, with strong wave energy (634). The wind is glassy – a slight air from the east-northeast, pretty much dead calm. The report says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is the best of the whole run. The Left will be pushing head-high plus, clean, and lined up. It’s an intermediate-level break, so this will be a proper session. Crowds are possible here, so get there early.
After that, the quality drops off. Wednesday, July 15th, is messy with onshore wind. Thursday, July 16th, has a small glassy morning but the swell is only 3 ft. From Friday, July 17th, through the end of the outlook (Sunday, July 19th), it’s a mix of onshore wind and choppy, poor surf. The swell sticks around 3 ft to 5 ft, but the wind is always cross-onshore or cross-shore, keeping it ugly.
The gap from July 15th to the 19th is a stretch of poor conditions with no real recommendations. The long-range stuff is less certain, but the pattern doesn’t look like it’s turning around.
So, to sum it up: your best bet is the morning of Saturday, July 4th, and the absolute standout is the morning of Tuesday, July 14th. Get on it.
Rusty.
