Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Left over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s comin’ our way.
Right off the bat, it’s a pretty quiet outlook for The Left. The first few days aren’t gonna get you too excited – there’s a bit of swell rollin’ in, but the conditions are all over the shop. The main event, if you can call it that, is Thursday morning, July 9th. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell out of the west with a 9-second period, and a light SSE breeze keepin’ it glassy. The combined wave energy is sittin’ at 231 (moderate), so there’s some push behind it. Water temp’s 54°, which is about normal for this time of year. That’s the pick of the first week, but honestly, it’s only a 2 out of 10 in the grand scheme of things.
From Thursday afternoon onward, it’s a messy run. Friday, July 10th, drops to 3ft in the morning with onshore wind, and the afternoon gets cross-onshore and choppy. Saturday and Sunday are much the same – small, weak, and bumpy. By Monday, July 13th, the swell’s down to 2ft, and while the wind cleans up to cross-offshore, it’s just too small to bother with. There’s a glimmer on Tuesday morning, July 14th, with a 2ft west-northwest swell that’s got a long 12-second period, and clean cross-offshore wind. The energy jumps to 236 (moderate), but the wave comment says it’s marginal, so it’s a maybe for a sneaky session.
Then we hit a real dry spell. From Wednesday, July 15th, right through to Thursday, July 23rd, the surf is tiny – mostly under 2ft to 3ft – and the wind is either cross-on, onshore, or just plain messy. The swell direction flips around, but none of it delivers. There’s a few days with moderate energy readings (like 172 on July 20th), but the wind is cross-on and choppy, killin’ any chance of a decent wave. The period is short on most days, too, so even when there’s a little bump, it’s weak and crumbly.
The end of the outlook, Friday, July 24th, throws a bigger swell our way – 6ft to 7ft out of the west, with a combined energy of 309 to 383 (strong). That’s a solid push, but here’s the catch: it’s cross-onshore and choppy, and the wave comment is clear – poor surf conditions. For a point break like The Left, that’s gonna be a washing machine. If you’re a kite surfer, this setup might be your jam, but for paddle surfing, it’s a big miss.
So overall, there’s no real standout in this 16-day window. The first few days offer a clean window on Thursday morning, but it’s nothin’ to write home about. After that, it’s a long stretch of small, messy, or blown-out conditions. The Left is fairly consistent by nature, but this run is a tough one. Forecasts can change, though, so don’t write it off completely.
Rusty.
