Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Bowl over the next 16 days.
Oi, Rusty here.
Alright, the long-range view for The Bowl is a bit of a mixed bag, with a lot of waiting for the right window. The forecast starts on Saturday the 11th of July, and straight up, the first week is looking pretty flat and underwhelming. The surf quality is poor for most of that time, and you’ll be watching the horizon more than riding it. There is a notable gap of very little to no worthwhile surf from Saturday the 11th all the way through to Monday the 20th.
Now, the bright spots start to appear after that wait. The first real standout is on Monday the 20th. The Bowl sees a 4 ft swell from the N, and the wind goes glassy – dead calm – in the morning. That’s a major positive. The water temperature is 55°, which is about average for the time of year. The combined energy is a moderate 277, so there’s some push in the water. For an advanced reef break, this is your best shot in the first half of the outlook. The swell period is short at 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly and a little less powerful than you might hope, but clean, glassy conditions at The Bowl are a treat. The afternoon looks to get messy with a cross-off wind, so get on it early.
Looking further ahead, there’s another glimmer on Sunday the 26th of July. Again, a glassy morning with a 4 ft swell from the N and a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is a weaker 208, but the clean, mirror-like conditions make it more attractive than the raw numbers suggest. The afternoon clears into glassy conditions too, though the swell drops off to 3 ft.
For the second week, there is some size, but it’s mostly messy. On the 19th, you’ve got a big 8 ft swell from the NNW, but it’s accompanied by strong onshore winds, making it a complete washout. That setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. For experts only, and even then, it’s not inviting.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a write-off. Your best chance for a clean session is the morning of Monday the 20th, with a glassy 4 ft NW swell. The second glassy window on Sunday the 26th is a smaller but promising option if the long-range forecast holds.
Rusty.
