Table - best surf conditions forecast for Aberdeen over the next 16 days.
Rusty here again. Let's break down the Aberdeen forecast, but in feet and miles this time.
It's a quiet outlook, no doubt. We're looking at a long, slow period of small, weak surf and tricky winds. The first real chance to get wet doesn't really appear until around Friday the 11th of July, and even that's just ankle to knee-high. The whole 16-day window is a struggle, with only a couple of moments that are even worth a mention.
We start on Tuesday the 8th of July with nothing doing – the energy is flat (0). This dry spell sticks around for a few days. Wednesday and Thursday show tiny ripples, no bigger than about 1ft, with cross or cross-onshore winds making it choppy.
The first faint pulse appears Friday the 11th of July morning, with a 2ft swell from the NNE. The wind is messy cross-shore, and the combined energy is still very weak (12). Not much to write home about.
Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th are more of the same. Sunday morning has a slight bump from the NE at about 2ft, but onshore winds will mess it up. By Sunday afternoon, the swell pushes up to 2ft from the NE, with a period of 7 seconds, and the energy ticks up to (54). The wind is still onshore, so it'll be lumpy, but it's the most wave height we've seen. A beginner might find a slow one here.
The second week keeps the low-energy trend. There's a fleeting moment on Friday the 18th of July morning where we see 3ft from the NE and energy at (58). The wind is a light cross-onshore, so not glassy. It's the biggest swell of the whole outlook, but it's not a classic.
Then it fades again. Sunday the 20th is dead flat and glassy, but there's nothing to surf. The last few days, Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd, offer tiny 2ft swells, though Tuesday morning shows a clean, offshore wind. That might make that little wave rideable, but it's still tiny.
Water temp is about normal for the season. Crowds are 'sometimes' here, so you might see a few locals, but the lack of quality will keep most people away.
My honest call? If you're desperate, the Sunday the 13th afternoon gives you the most size. But for proper waves, we're waiting on a change in the weather. Forecasts can always flip, but this stretch looks like a write-off for now.
Rusty.
