The Lowdown
Alright, let’s look at what’s coming up around here. Honestly, it starts off pretty bleak. For a bunch of days from Wednesday the 15th through into the weekend, there’s almost nothing at Aberdeen – pretty much flat. The water temp is about what you’d expect for this time of year, nothing wild.
We finally get something worth talking about on Sunday morning the 19th. The combined wave energy hits 561, which is a solid moderate bump. Swell is around 1.8m out of the NE with a 10-second period – that’s a proper groundswell, meaning the waves will have some real push and shape to them. It might be a little big for beginners, but experienced surfers will dig it. The wind is clean and cross-off from the NNW so the surface should be glassy and lined up. That Sunday morning session is the one to aim for. By the afternoon, the wind shifts onshore and the quality drops off.
From there, it’s straight back into flatness. Monday the 20th, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – dead or tiny scraps. Barely ankle-snappers.
Then, on Wednesday morning the 29th of July, we get a little teaser. Swell comes in at 1.0m from the NE, period 8 seconds, and the wind flips light offshore from the WNW. Combined energy is just 110, so it’s weak to moderate, but the conditions are clean and rideable. Not a classic by any stretch, but after all that stillness, it’s a wave you can surf.
So if you’re picking one session, make it Sunday the 19th in the morning. That’s the clear standout. The rest of the run is slim pickings. Just how it goes sometimes.
