G’day, Rusty here. Looks like we’re in for a bit of a dry spell at Aberdeen. The whole 16-day window is a tough one – there’s barely a ripple worth getting excited about, and the surf just never really shows up. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, small, and messy conditions, with the odd pulse of weak energy that never amounts to anything. Honestly, for the first week and a half, it’s pretty much a write-off. The water’s sitting around 54°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Let’s walk through it. The first few days – Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th of July – are a total non-event. Tiny 0.7ft to 1ft swell with short, weak periods around 3 to 4 seconds, and the combined energy is pitiful, barely hitting 7 (weak). Winds are messy and cross-shore, so you’re looking at small, choppy junk. Nothing to ride.
Monday the 6th through to Wednesday the 9th? Same story. We’re talking 0.3ft to 1.0ft of weak, wind-affected slop. Energy values are 1 to 6 (weak). Even Wednesday morning the 8th goes glassy, but with a 0.7ft swell and 4-second period, it’s just a flat, oily lake. Thursday the 9th morning shows a pulse with an 11-second period – that’s a bit of groundswell character – but it’s only 0.3ft, so it’s barely a bump on the horizon. Combined energy is 6 (weak).
The second week doesn’t get much better. From the 10th of July onward, we see a slight lift – heights tick up to 1ft to 2ft, with periods stretching to 5 or 6 seconds. The combined energy climbs into double digits, peaking at 53 (weak to moderate) on Sunday the 12th afternoon. Still, with cross-onshore winds and that short period, it’s not going to be any kind of proper wave. It’s more of a lumpy, choppy mess. For a beach/groyne/river setup like this, that kind of weak, onshore energy just isn’t worth suiting up for.
By the 15th of July, we get a little bump – 2ft from the NE with a 7-second period and combined energy of 44 (moderate). The wind is cross-off at times, especially on the 16th morning, but the swell is still tiny and weak. The 18th and 19th offer the same pattern: 1ft to 2ft, NE swell, cleanish cross-off winds, but energy stays in the 12 to 40 range (weak to moderate). It’s still not surfable – just small, weak lines that won’t break properly.
There’s no standout here. Nothing to recommend. Aberdeen is in a flat spell, and that’s just how it goes sometimes. With so little consistent swell and poor quality throughout, it’s a blank run that’s pretty normal for the area. Keep an eye on the charts, because it won’t stay this quiet forever, but for now, leave the board at home.
Rusty.
