The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Aberdeen over the next 16 days.
I’ll be straight with you: the pickings are slim. The forecast is dominated by long stretches of flat, weak, or messy conditions. We’re looking at a solid run of nothing much from now until the 23rd of July – a good week of no real surf to speak of, just the odd tiny bump. The water temp is sitting at 58°F, which is about average for the time of year, so the wetsuit is staying on.
The first real glimmer of anything happens on the morning of Thursday the 23rd of July. The wind is glassy, a light offshore from the SW, and the swell is a tiny 3 ft out of the NE with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is weak (67), so it’s not going to be a world-beater, but with glassy conditions it’ll be rideable on a longboard. It’s a beginner-friendly beach/groyne/river break, and the crowd is only "sometimes" an issue, so you might get a few fun ones to yourself. The swell direction is NE, which is off from the optimum SE direction, but it’s all we’ve got.
The afternoon of the 23rd turns messy with a cross-onshore wind, so the morning window is the only real shot. After that, it’s back to more flat spells or tiny, weak waves through the end of the month and into August. There’s a whiff of glass again on the 31st of July morning, but it’s a tiny 1 ft swell from the SSE (period 4 seconds) – barely a ripple.
The standout here is the morning of Thursday the 23rd of July. It’s the only window with a glassy, clean surface and a wave that’s actually surfable. It’s not a classic, but it’s the best we’ve got.
Rusty.
