Table - best surf conditions forecast for White Rocks over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – if you’re looking at the next couple of weeks for a surf around White Rocks, you’re gonna need some patience. It’s a pretty grim run for a while, but there might be a little light at the end of the tunnel.
Right now, and for the next week and a half, it’s flat or close to it. From Saturday 11th July right through to Monday 20th July, we’re looking at tiny, weak waves with no energy to speak of. The combined swell energy is struggling, mostly under 100 (weak energy). Winds are a mix of cross and cross-off, but with nothing to push, it’s just a paddling exercise. The water temp is sitting at 58°F, which is about normal for this time of year, nothing wild there.
We’ve got a proper gap here – about ten days of nothing worth paddling out for. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s not unusual when the swell windows shut.
Now, the first little flicker of hope shows up on Tuesday 21st July morning. We’ll see a bump in swell to 5ft from the NW, with a period of 7 seconds and combined energy hitting 168 (moderate). The wind is glassy, which is a huge positive, so the surface will be clean. The waves will be surfable but very ordinary – it’s not going to be a classic, but it’s the first thing we’ve had all week. The swell direction (NW) is straight out of the optimum for White Rocks, so that’s a small tick in the box.
Then on Sunday 26th July morning, we get a bit more size. Swell jumps to 6ft from the NW, period 8 seconds, and the combined energy rockets up to 511 (strong). That’s the biggest energy reading in the whole period, but it comes with a catch. The wind is onshore from the N at 6 mph, making it messy. The report says “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions.” This is expert territory anyway – at 6ft it’s too big for beginners, and with the onshore wind, it’s gonna be a battle. The afternoon stays big (5ft) but the wind picks up to 12 mph from the north, making it a write-off.
If I had to pick a standout, it’s the Tuesday 21st morning. It’s not much, but it’s the cleanest window we get with that glassy wind and a bit of NW swell. Don’t expect barrels, just a chance to get wet.
Otherwise, the second week is a bit of a tease. The 25th July afternoon has a 4ft WNW swell with clean offshore wind from the south, but it’s still rated as “surfable but very ordinary.” Energy is 173 (moderate), so there’s something there, but don’t book a trip around it.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts, and remember – it tends not to stay poor for long.
Rusty.
