Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what we’ve got on the horizon.
The next couple of weeks are looking pretty quiet for White Rocks. The swell is staying small and most of the conditions are messy, so there isn’t much to get excited about. If you’re the persistent type, there are a couple of windows where things might clean up enough for a session.
Our first chance comes on Sunday morning, July 5th. We’ve got a small 3 ft swell out of the WNW at 8 seconds. The wind is light and cross-off, so it’ll be clean, but the wave energy is weak (90). It’s surfable, but very ordinary – more of a longboard cruise.
The next sniff of something better is on Wednesday morning, July 8th. The swell drops a touch to 2 ft, but the period ticks up to 9 seconds. The real story here though is the wind goes glassy. That early window with the combined energy at 73 will be clean and tidy for beginners. There aren’t many waves, but you won’t have any wind to fight.
There’s a gap of pretty poor conditions from July 9th right through until the 15th. The swell stays tiny, and most of the winds are onshore or cross, making for chop and messy surf. Then on Wednesday morning the 15th of July, we get a glassy, offshore window with a light breeze. The swell is still small at 3 ft from the WNW at 7 seconds, but the conditions will be clean. The combined energy is only 62, so it’s weak, but if you need a paddle, it’s the best on offer for a while.
Now, the standout – and the only one that really looks like a proper surf day – is Saturday morning the 18th of July. The swell picks up to 4 ft from the NW with a period of 10 seconds. That’s decent period, and combined with a light cross-off breeze, it’s going to be clean. The combined energy jumps to 266 – moderate – and it’s the highest in the whole run. This is the morning to be out there, no question. It’s a fairly consistent spot, so expect some fun sets. The wave energy is moderate, not huge, but with that direction right in the optimum NW sweet spot and offshore wind, it’ll be your best chance for a proper session.
Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th drop off again with strong winds and much smaller swell, so make the most of that Saturday window.
Rusty.
