Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this next couple of weeks is a tough one for us at White Rocks. We’re looking at a long, flat spell with nothing really worth paddling out for.
The pattern is set from the get-go. Sunday the 5th starts off with a weak 2.6ft swell from the WNW, but with a short period of 8 seconds and a cross-off wind, it’s just not going to have any punch. The energy is weak (90), and honestly, it looks more like a choppy mess than anything rideable. The water temp is 56.3°, which is about average for this time of year, so the wetsuit thickness is about what you’d expect. There’s no standout window of clean, quality surf.
From Sunday afternoon straight through to Monday the 20th, the forecast is pretty grim. There's a massive gap of over a week with nothing recommended. The swell stays small, rarely breaking 3.6ft, and the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore. You'll see plenty of "poor surf conditions" in the notes, and that's exactly what we’ve got. Even on Wednesday the 8th morning when we get a glass-off, the swell is down to 2.3ft with weak energy (71) and the period is short at 9 seconds; it'd be a flat, weak paddle.
Later on, Friday the 17th sees a slight bump in period to 12 seconds – that’s a bit more groundswell energy – but the wave energy climbs to 202. The problem? The wind is a fresh onshore howl at 22 mph, making it lumpy and messy. That’s not surfable for a paddler; that’s kite-surfing weather. The swell stays too small and the wind too bad for anything else.
So, the call is simple: there's no good surf on the horizon at White Rocks. It’s a blank run that’s unfortunately pretty normal for the area when the wind and swell don’t align. Keep an eye on it, but for now, the boards can stay in the shed.
