The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for White Rocks. We’ve got a 16-day window, and I’ve got to be straight with you—it’s looking pretty bleak for most of it. There’s a big gap of poor to no surf for the vast majority of the period, so don’t get your hopes up.
The only real glimmer of light comes in right at the start. On Wednesday morning, August 19th, we’ve got a pulse of 4ft swell from the WNW, with a period of 10 seconds. That’s a clean, moderate groundswell with decent energy (250). The wind is a light southerly offshore, which will keep it clean. This is the best on offer for the whole forecast, and it’s not huge. It’s a beginner-friendly break, so that size is fine, but don’t expect anything epic. The water temp is sitting at 60°, which is 2° warmer than average for this time of year, so it’s a bit on the normal side, nothing crazy.
The Wednesday afternoon session hangs in there with a 3ft swell, still from the WNW, but the wind goes light cross-off. It’s surfable.
After that, it’s a long, dry spell. From Thursday, August 20th, all the way through to the end of the forecast on September 2nd, the conditions are just poor. The swell drops off a cliff, and when there is any wave energy, it’s either onshore, weak, or both. We’re talking about a solid two-week stretch of flat, choppy, or windy junk. The wind swings onshore from the north for days, and the combined energy values are mostly in the double digits, well under 100. It’s not worth paddling out for.
If you’re desperate, the Wednesday morning is your only shot. After that, it’s a write-off. The waves, such as they are, are too small and the wind is wrong. For a beginner spot like this, it’s just a waiting game.
Rusty.
