Table - best surf conditions forecast for White Rocks over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at White Rocks for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty grim stretch. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple worth paddling for. The first real chance of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Saturday the 18th of July, and even then, it’s not looking great. Before that, from Friday the 10th right through to Friday the 17th, it’s flat to tiny – we’re talking ankle-snappers at best, with combined swell energy barely cracking 100 (mostly in the single digits and teens). The water temp is sitting at 58°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first bit of size shows up on Saturday the 18th of July, with a NNW swell pushing 4 ft in the morning, building to 6 ft by the afternoon. The period is short though, only 5 to 6 seconds, so it’s gonna be a messy, wind-affected mess. The wind is onshore from the NNW at 22 mph, so it’ll be choppy and blown out. Combined energy hits 235 in the afternoon, so there’s some push, but the quality is poor. This is more of a kite-surfing session than a paddle session.
Sunday the 19th of July stays similar – 4 ft of NNW swell, but still with onshore and cross-onshore winds around 16 mph. The period is still short (6-7 seconds), so it’s lumpy and uninviting. Combined energy is moderate at 191 in the morning.
The next bit of size is on Wednesday the 22nd of July. The swell jumps to 6 ft from the NW, with a period of 7 seconds. That’s a moderate energy event (312 in the morning), but the wind is cross-shore to cross-onshore from the WNW at 12-16 mph, so it’s going to be choppy and messy. This is still more of a kiting day than a paddle day. The size is over 1.5m, so it’s not for beginners.
After that, things drop off again. Thursday the 23rd of July sees the swell back down to 3 ft, and the wind is still cross-onshore. The last few days of the forecast, from the 24th to the 25th, show a tiny 1 ft swell with a long period (14 seconds on the 24th afternoon), and the wind finally goes cross-offshore to offshore. The combined energy is moderate at 116 on the 24th afternoon, but the swell height is just too small to get excited about. The water is clean, but you’d be struggling to catch anything.
So, the bottom line: there’s no good surf in this 16-day window. The whole run is a blank. White Rocks is a fairly consistent spot, so this kind of flat spell is a bit of a bummer, but it happens. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
