The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty, and let me tell you, the next couple of weeks for Port Isaac are looking pretty grim. There's a long stretch of flat, weak surf ahead, so you'll have to be patient. The first real chance of anything comes from the 24th of July onward, but even then, it's not going to be anything to write home about.
The water is sitting at a balmy 66°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year.
From the 13th of July through to the 24th of July, it's a real bummer. We're looking at a solid 11-day stretch with next to no surf. The swell is tiny, often under 2 ft, and the periods are short, so there's just no energy in the water. The combined swell energy is pitifully low, usually in the teens or twenties. There's a mix of cross and onshore winds, making it choppy and messy. Even when we get a glassy morning on the 22nd of July, the swell is still too small to do anything with.
Late on the 24th of July, things start to change. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the WSW, with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy climbs to 58, but it's still a weak, short-period windswell, and the wind is cross-shore, creating a cross-chop. It's a bit of a letdown.
The 25th of July sees a slight improvement. The swell holds at 3 ft from the W, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is now moderate, hitting 105 on the morning and 140 on the afternoon. It's still a short-period swell, so it won't be the cleanest, and the wind remains cross-shore. This is probably the most surfable we'll get, but it's not a standout.
The 26th of July offers a bit of hope. We get a 3 ft swell from the W with a 7-second period, and the wind turns offshore from the S. The combined energy is 103, so there's some moderate power. The offshore wind will clean it up, making for some fun, if not perfect, waves. The 27th of July is similar, with a 2 ft swell from the W and clean, cross-off winds from the SSW. It's not big, but it'll be rideable.
After that, the 28th of July looks like it's falling apart again, with the swell dropping and the wind turning back to cross-shore, making it lumpy.
So, to be honest, there's no standout session here. The most promising window is the 26th and 27th of July, with that offshore wind and a little bit of swell. If you're itching for a paddle, that's the time to go. But don't expect any barrels.
Rusty.
