Table - best surf conditions forecast for Port Isaac over the next 16 days.
Right then, let’s have a proper look at what’s on offer for Port Isaac over the next couple of weeks. I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch, a proper quiet spell for the Cornish coastline.
We’re looking at a long, dry gap to start. There’s nothing really worth paddling out for from now until the 9th of July. The swell is way too small, the winds are messy, and the wave energy is weak, with a combined energy reading of just 44 early on. You’d be floating around on a lake, not surfing.
The first faint glimmer of something surfable shows up on the morning of Friday the 10th of July. We get a tiny 3 ft swell from the west, with a period of 9 seconds. The wind is a light easterly breeze, keeping things clean. The combined energy climbs to 107 (moderate wave energy). It’s not going to blow your mind, but for a beginner, those conditions are about as good as it gets around here. Port Isaac is a fairly consistent, beginner-friendly spot, though you might find a few other folks in the water, as crowds are sometimes an issue. The water temperature is sitting at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The rest of the outlook is pretty grim. We bounce between tiny 0.7 ft to 2 ft westerly slop and onshore winds for days. The energy drops right back down to single- and low-double-digit figures. Even when we get a clean offshore wind on the 15th of July, the swell is a pathetic 1.0 ft – not enough to push a bodyboarder. It’s poor surf conditions all the way through.
The only other thing worth a mention is way out on the 22nd of July. That Wednesday morning sees a jump in swell height to 5 ft from the west, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy rockets up to 264 (moderate to strong wave energy). But here’s the kicker – the wind will be a fresh 22 mph cross-onshore, lumping it all up and making for messy, choppy conditions. The score reflects that: poor surf. For a beach and reef setup like this, it looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a regular paddler.
So, to wrap it up – the only true standout, and I’m using the term lightly, is the Friday morning session on the 10th of July. Get on it early for a clean little wave if you’re learning. After that, it’s a long wait with nothing to get excited about for the rest of the 16-day window.
