Table - best surf conditions forecast for Crackington Haven over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about Crackington Haven. If you’ve been hanging out for a proper surf, you’re going to be waiting a while. The whole 16-day window is a rough one – the swell is mostly tiny, the wind is often messy, and the surf quality is just not there. The first real action doesn’t even show up until the morning of Monday the 20th, so there’s a solid week of nothing to even talk about. After that, the surf builds but it’s a mixed bag.
Right, let’s get into it. The first sign of life is Monday the 20th of July. The morning brings a small 3ft swell from the west, but it’s blowing 15 mph from the north, hitting it cross-onshore, so it’s going to be choppy and bumpy. The afternoon is the same size, but the wind swings more onshore, so it’s not looking good. The combined energy is moderate at best (107), but the wind ruins it.
The standout period, and really the only one worth mentioning, is Tuesday the 21st of July. The swell picks up to 5ft in the morning, also from the west, with a period of 7 seconds. The wind is a gentle 9 mph cross-onshore from the NNW, so it’s a bit cleaner than the days before. The combined energy is strong at 218, so there’s some push. By the afternoon, it jumps to 6ft with a 278 rating, but the wind goes onshore at 12 mph, making it lumpy. For a beginner-friendly spot like this, 5ft is your limit, and the morning session is the pick. The water is a warm 66°, which is a couple of degrees warmer than usual, so it feels tropical.
Now, Wednesday the 22nd of July gets heavy. The swell spikes to 8ft by the morning from the west, with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy is a massive 836. The wind is light onshore (6 mph), so it’s going to be a wild, powerful, and messy wall of water. This is expert-only territory, and even then, the conditions are marginal. The afternoon is even bigger with 8ft and a 1081 energy rating, but with onshore wind, it’s a washing machine. For a beach break like Crackington, this is more of a spectacle than a session.
The rest of the forecast is a slow fade. Thursday the 23rd drops to 5ft but with onshore wind, and from the 24th onwards, it’s back to knee-high slop with under 3ft swell and strong onshore winds. There’s no comeback in the second week. In short, if you’re a beginner, aim for the morning of Tuesday the 21st for the cleanest, most manageable waves. If you’re an expert, Wednesday the 22nd is your only chance at something with power, but it’ll be a battle. The rest of the time, save your energy.
Rusty.
