Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Breakwater-St Ives over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty again. Let’s talk about The Breakwater-St Ives in feet and miles per hour.
Truth is, it’s a slow, flat start and it doesn’t get much better for a long while. The first surf recommendation comes on July 11th, with tiny, weak waves and it stays poor for days. A long dry spell. Water temp is about 62°, which is normal for the time of year.
From July 11th through July 20th, it’s a real struggle. Swell stays small, mostly under 3 ft, with short periods and winds that are cross or cross-on. Combined wave energy is low, often well under 100. At The Breakwater, which is an inconsistent point, this is just a typical run of nothing. Not worth the walk.
There’s a little more energy on July 21st and 22nd – swell hits about 5 ft from the WNW with moderate energy readings. The period is 9 seconds, not bad. But winds are cross or cross-on, and the swell direction isn’t hitting the optimum NW. So it’s going to be bumpy. The morning of July 21st is the closest to clean, but only if you’re really jonesing.
The one day that might fire is July 26th. That’s a 6 ft WNW swell with combined energy of 325. That’s the biggest we see. Wind is light cross-on from the NNE, so a little bumpy, but it’s the best energy of the whole outlook. The period is short though, only 7 seconds. That size gets into the expert zone for sure. Mark the date, but we’re two weeks out, so don’t get your hopes up too much.
Bottom line: The Breakwater is flat and poor for the first couple weeks. The 26th is your best bet, but it’s a long way off.
Rusty.
