The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, it’s a pretty grim run for us. The Breakwater-St Ives is the only spot with any data, and it’s looking like a tough stretch. We’re kicking off with a few days of nothing worth chasing, so don’t bother suiting up just yet.

The first real sniff of anything happens on August 28th, the Friday afternoon. The wind is a moderate cross-offshore, and the swell bumps up to 3ft from the west, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (141). It’s clean, but the swell is small and short-period, so it’s more of a longboard cruise than anything to get excited about.

Then things get a bit wild. August 29th sees a big jump in size, with 8ft swell from the west-northwest, but the wind is a fresh cross-shore. The combined energy is strong (735), but with that wind and short period (8 seconds), it’s going to be a lumpy, messy mess. This is more of a kite-surfing show than a paddle session.

The next standout, and probably the best of the lot, is September 6th, the Sunday morning. We’ve got a fresh offshore wind from the south-southeast, which will keep things clean. The swell is 4ft from the west-northwest with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is strong (298). It’s a solid, punchy size for this break, and the offshore wind is the key. The Breakwater-St Ives is a point break, so it should handle that west-northwest swell well. But with a short period, it won’t be the most powerful, and the crowd situation is listed as "sometimes," so you might share it. This is the one to circle.

After that, September 7th has a brief window of surfable 4ft waves from the west in the morning, with light winds and clean conditions. The combined energy is moderate (171). It’s ordinary, but it’s something.

The rest of the run is filled with small, weak swells, onshore winds, or messy conditions. There’s a lot of nothing to wade through.

Stay hopeful, though. Forecasts can flip.

Rusty.
