The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming up for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a pretty grim start. The first week and a half is a write-off, with no real surf on offer. We're looking at a long stretch of poor conditions from July 16th right through to the 28th with nothing but small, weak, messy waves. You'd be better off doing something else.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on the morning of July 29th at The Breakwater-St Ives. It's only a small 3ft swell from the west, but the wind is light and cross-offshore, so it’ll be clean. The water is sitting at 63°, which is about normal for this time of year, so nothing to get excited about there. It’s a bit of a tease, but it’s nothing to write home about.
The real standout, and the only time you’ll want to get wet, is the afternoon of July 30th. We’ve got a 5ft swell from the west with a solid 11-second period. The combined energy is moderate (651), so there’s some proper push behind it. The wind is a fresh cross-offshore, which will keep the faces clean. Now, this is a point break that’s inconsistent and can be a bit fickle, so it’s not a sure thing, but when it lines up like this, it’s the best option in the whole 16-day window.
The following morning of July 31st still has some size at 6ft, but it’s a shorter period, and the wind is a stiff offshore. It’ll be clean, but the quality drops off a bit. For the rest of the outlook, it's back to flat or poor conditions.
So, to keep it simple: hang tight for a long time, then get ready for the afternoon of July 30th.
Rusty.
