The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk about the Breakwater-St Ives forecast in feet and miles per hour. It’s a rough patch, no two ways about it.
We’ve got a big gap of no decent surf right at the start, about 5 days of nothing but tiny, choppy junk. The first real chance comes on Thursday, August 27th in the afternoon. A 5-foot swell rolls in from the WSW with an 11-second period. The wind is a clean cross-off, and the combined energy hits 651 (moderate to strong). That’s the pick of the entire forecast. The water temp is about 63°, which is normal for the season.
That Thursday session is the only one that looks really good. The Friday morning after that still has a 6-foot swell from the WSW, but it’s starting to get a bit messy. Then the weekend brings bigger, wind-blown slop. Saturday, August 29th morning has a solid 8-foot swell from the west, but with a fresh cross-shore and a short period, it’s only for the die-hards.
The rest of the second week is a bust—small, lumpy, and cross-shore. So, if you’re picking one session, make it Thursday afternoon, August 27th. The wind is clean, the size is right, and the point should handle that 11-second groundswell properly. It can get crowded there sometimes, and the break is a bit inconsistent, so don’t sleep on it.
Rusty.
