Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Breakwater-St Ives over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what The Breakwater-St Ives has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. Honestly, my heart sinks a bit looking at this. The Breakwater-St Ives is a point break, usually a good bet, but this forecast is a tough read.
The overall pattern is grim. There's not a single session over the entire 16-day window that I can recommend with any enthusiasm. The swell is tiny for the most part, and when it does show a pulse of energy, the wind is junk. We're looking at a solid run of poor conditions right from the start. Saturday, July 11th kicks things off with a 2ft swell from the west, but a cross-on wind from the ENE at 16 mph just tears it apart. The wave energy is weak, at best 104 on the Saturday morning, quickly dropping off.
We go through the whole first week, and it's more of the same. Sunday July 12th through to Friday July 17th, the swell never gets above 3ft, and it's plagued by cross-shore and cross-on winds, often a fresh breeze. The period is all over the place, sometimes as low as 5 or 6 seconds, which is just windswell slop. The wave energy stays in the weak to moderate range, with the highest being 77. It's just not worth paddling out for.
July 18th, the swell bumps to 4ft from the north, but it's still cross-on from the NNW. The next couple of days show the combined energy climbing a bit, hitting 157 on the morning of July 21st. That's moderate energy, and the wind turns cross-off from the WSW, which cleans it up a touch. But the swell is still only 3ft and from the WNW with a short period of 6 seconds. That energy is mostly just chop. Even Wednesday July 22nd morning, with a long period 10-second swell from the west and combined energy of 158, it's let down by a cross wind. It's disheartening.
By the last week, July 24th and beyond, the energy just fades away completely. The last recorded swell on July 26th is a pathetic 0.3ft from the southwest with a long, powerful 12-second period. At least it's offshore from the SSW, but there's practically no wave to ride.
So, there's no standout session. This is a flat, blown-out run. For a spot like The Breakwater-St Ives, it's a disappointing outlook. The setup here could handle a bigger, longer period groundswell. A 10-second or 12-second west swell with offshore winds would be magic, but that's not what we've got. For now, the kites might be having a better time in those 19 mph cross-shore winds than anyone on a paddle board.
Rusty.
