Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, surfers, ol' Rusty here. Let's have a proper look at the charts for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you. It's grim. We've got The Breakwater-St Ives on the radar, and honestly, for the first week, it's a write-off. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly rubbish, and the wave comment is telling us it's "poor surf conditions" from Saturday the 4th right through to Friday the 10th. You're looking at a solid seven days of nothing worth paddling out for. The water temp is sitting at 61°, which is just about average for this time of year, so no surprises there, but you won't be needing a thick suit for a session that isn't happening.
There is a little flicker of life around Friday the 10th afternoon. The wind finally swings offshore from the South, and the wave comment upgrades to "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." We're seeing a 3 ft swell from the West with a 8-second period and the combined energy hits 121. It's clean, but it's weak and short-period. It's a one-star day at best, and only for the keenest of loggers.
Then it gets sloppy again. Saturday the 11th sees a *big* spike in the swell – 5 ft from the West with 10-second periods – but the combined energy rockets up to 423. That's a lot of water moving around. But here's the kicker: the wind is a messy cross-onshore, and the wave comment is back to "poor surf conditions." It's just a washing machine. For the more advanced crew, there might be a few bigger, lumpy walls, but it's not what I'd call a good day. Honestly, with that much wind and chop, this setup is looking more interesting for the kite surfers than for us paddle surfers.
After that, the swell drops right back down. From Monday the 13th through to Sunday the 19th, we're talking ankle-snappers. Tuesday the 14th morning is the only other little blip – the wind goes glassy, and there's a 2 ft West swell. The combined energy is only 102. It'd be clean as a whistle, but you'd be fighting for the one small, weak roller every ten minutes. The Breakwater is already an inconsistent spot, so with no size, it's a gamble.
So what's the pick of a very poor bunch? If I had to point you to one window, it would be that Friday afternoon on the 10th. It's small, weak, and short-period, but it's the cleanest it will be. The bigger Saturday swell on the 11th is a miss because of the wind. The rest? Best to save your petrol and wait for the next system.
Rusty, signing off.
