Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s cut through the noise.
We’re in a flat spell for the next couple of weeks at The Breakwater-St Ives. This point break is inconsistent at the best of times, and these forecasts aren’t doing it any favors. For a full 16-day run, we just can't find a decent wave. There’s no standout session coming up. You might want to find a river to fish in instead.
The first and only flicker of hope was meant to be the morning of Monday, July 6th. We had a small 3 ft wave from the west, and the wind went glassy. Water temp is about 61°, which is normal for this time of year. But the swell energy was weak (100) and the period was a short 8 seconds – that’s just bumpy, weak slop. The report called it "surfable but very ordinary," and that's just a waist-high mess.
Then we hit a long dry spell. From that Monday morning, we skip right past days of poor conditions until Friday, July 10th. That morning gives us a 3 ft swell from the west (145 energy), but a 9 mph cross-on from the NE chops it all up. Saturday, July 11th has a bit of size in the afternoon – a 5 ft wave from the north – but with a terrible 6-second period and strong cross-onshore wind, it’s just a fat, bumpy wall. That’s kite-surfing junk, not paddle surfing.
The only other time it looks clean is the afternoon of Saturday, July 18th. We get a 2 ft groundswell from the WNW (11-second period, 157 energy) with a clean 16 mph cross-off from the SW. But it’s small, and the swell direction is off from the WNW while the break prefers a NW angle. It's a clean knee-high wave, but not worth the drive.
From start to finish, it’s a bust. The conditions stay poor right through to Sunday, July 19th. Some runs are just like this – a blank period where the ocean doesn’t cooperate.
