Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for The Breakwater-St Ives over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you, it's a grim picture for a spell.
Right now, and for the bulk of this period, the surf is gonna be a write-off. We've got small, weak energy – most of it barely scraping into the moderate zone on the 3rd, then dropping off fast. The wind's a mess too, mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the swell's short-period with a lumpy, choppy surface. The waves are tiny, never even hitting 3 ft until way later, and the reports are all "poor surf conditions." You could wait all day for nothing. The water's a cool 61°, which is pretty much bang average for this time of year.
There's a dry spell coming up – a long one. From July 3rd all the way through to the morning of the 18th, the models are showing nothing worth paddling out for. That's over two weeks of flat, messy, or straight-up junk.
Now, there is a little glimmer on the horizon. On Saturday July 18th we might see a slight pulse. That morning the swell bumps to about 4 ft from the N, and the wind swings SW at 6 mph, giving us a clean, cross-off breeze. The energy picks up, and for the first time in ages, the wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." It's a 1 out of 10, but it's the only glimmer. The break's inconsistent at the best of times, so you could easily rock up and get skunked. The afternoon fades right back out. That Saturday morning window is the only real option, but keep your expectations on the floor.
So, to sum it up: a whole lot of nothing until that one brief, iffy moment on the 18th. If you're desperate, maybe check it, but don't hold your breath. This is about as poor as it gets here.
Rusty.
