Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let's get into it. It's been a tough stretch for surf around here, but I've been combing through the charts, and let me tell you, there's a tiny window of hope, but you've got to be patient.
Right now, we're looking at a whole lot of nothing for the next few days. The Breakwater-St Ives is going through a real dry spell. We've got a few days of mostly poor conditions and small, weak swell. The water temp is sitting at about 61°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Thursday the 2nd kicks things off, but honestly, that 6ft WNW swell is pretty much junked out by a 20 km/h onshore NNW wind. The combined energy is 614, which is moderate, but with that wind, it's a write-off (The-Breakwater-St Ives).
Friday the 3rd, though... that's our one real chance. Early morning glass-off with a 3 mph offshore SW breeze. The swell drops to a waist-high 5ft from the west, period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a solid 395. It's going to be clean and glassy, with those proper little point-break lines. This is the window. Get on it early, because by the afternoon, that 12 mph cross-shore wind from the west will chop it to bits.
After that, Saturday the 4th through to Wednesday the 8th is a real write-off. The swell drops right down to knee-to-waist high, with onshore or cross-onshore winds. The combined energy dips below 200, and some days below 100, which is just weak sauce. We are looking at a solid five-day gap with no recommendations at all.
Then we get a flicker of potential on Saturday the 11th. The afternoon has a 3ft north-northwest swell, a period of just 6 seconds (so it's a weak wind swell), but the wind goes offshore from the south at 9 mph. The combined energy is 111, weak, so the waves will be small and a bit soft. It's surfable, but ordinary.
Sunday the 12th through to the middle of the second week is more of the same: tiny, weak, or onshore. There's a weird one on Monday the 13th morning – a 2ft swell with a very long 15-second period from the west, combined energy of 159. That's a long-period groundswell that will be incredibly clean and glassy, but so small it'll barely break. It's more of a longboard or a stand-up paddle session than a proper surf.
For the standout, it has to be Friday morning, 3rd of July. That 5ft west swell with the 10-second period and the glassy offshore conditions is the only clean, surfable wave of the whole run. Don't sleep on it.
Beyond that, things are pretty grim until the very end. We see a possible improvement on Friday the 17th, with a clean 4ft west swell and light offshore winds. The period is short, only 6 seconds, so it'll be a bit weak, but with the clean conditions, it's worth checking out. But for now, set your alarm for that Friday morning session.
Rusty.
