Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are a tough watch for The Breakwater-St Ives (point). We're looking at a long, dry spell with nothing really worth paddling out for.
The pattern is grim from the get-go. From Monday the 6th of July right through to Friday the 17th of July, it’s pretty much a dead loss. We’re talking tiny, weak swell – mostly under 3ft – coming from the west or north-west, and the wind is constantly messing it up. You’ll see a lot of "poor surf conditions" in the forecast, and that’s the truth. The wave energy is weak, rarely getting above a couple of hundred, so there’s just nothing to work with. The water temp feels pretty average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
There is a bump in size around Saturday the 18th of July, with the swell pushing up to 5ft to 6ft by the afternoon, and the energy picks up to a moderate level. The direction is WNW, which is the optimum swell direction for this spot, so that’s the one tiny sliver of hope. But hold your horses – the wind is howling from the WNW at 18 mph, making it a lumpy, cross-onshore mess. That kind of size and chop isn’t for beginners, and the onshore wind wrecks any chance of a clean wave. It’s a pass.
Then on Sunday the 19th of July, the swell really fires up, hitting 7ft (over 8ft, so experts-only territory) with the combined energy cranking up to a very strong level. But again, the wind is blowing strong onshore from the NNW at 15 mph. It's big, it's powerful, and it's blown out. For the average surfer, this is a day to watch from the shore.
After that, into the 20th and 21st of July, we drop back down to a messy 4ft to 6ft with onshore winds. There is no standout session in this entire 16-day window. If you’re desperate, keep an eye on that Saturday the 18th, but honestly, with that wind, it’s looking more like a kite-surfing setup than a paddle-surfing one.
Rusty, signing off.
