Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s coming up for The Breakwater-St Ives. Straight up, it’s a slim pickin’s kind of forecast for the next couple of weeks. The swell direction is never quite locking in with what this place likes best.
The best window we’ve got is right at the start, Friday the 3rd of July. The morning is the standout. You’ve got a clean 5ft swell from the west, with a 10-second period pushing through, and the wind is glassy, dead calm from the southwest. The combined energy is sitting at a moderate 395, and the whole setup looks good for a point break like this. It’s not gonna be a massive day, but it’ll be a quality one. The water temp is about average for July, so no surprises there.
Now, the letdown. For the next week and a half after that, we’ve got a long, dry spell. From Friday afternoon all the way through to the morning of Monday the 13th, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The wind turns onshore or cross-shore, the swell drops below 3ft, and the energy just drains away. You’ll see numbers below 100 in the energy column for days on end - that’s a dead ocean.
Then Monday the 13th rolls around, and the swell jumps up to 7ft from the west-northwest with a 12-second period, and the combined energy rockets up to 1299 - that’s some serious power. But here’s the heartbreaker: the wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the northwest, making it choppy and messy. It’s a big, raw ocean, but not a clean one for The Breakwater. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddler’s dream. It stays in that lumpy, cross-shore zone for a couple of days after that.
Towards the end of the run, Thursday the 16th shows a glimpse of hope with a fresh offshore wind from the south and a 5ft west swell, but the forecast confidence is lower that far out, and the score just isn't there to call it a standout.
Bottom line: if you’ve got a free Friday morning on the 3rd, that’s the one. Other than that, the board’s staying in the car for a while. Forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a waiting game.
