Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer. It’s gonna be a tough stretch for a while, I’m not gonna lie. There’s a real flat spell coming up, and we're looking at over a week of pretty ordinary conditions before anything even gets close to surfable. I’m talking about The Breakwater-St Ives, up there on the North Coast.
So, the first few days, from Sunday the 5th right through to Monday the 13th of July, it’s basically a write-off. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the winds are mostly cross-onshore or onshore. There’s a bit of energy bumping around, but the combined swell energy is all in the double digits, mostly between 62 and 192—weak to moderate at best—and the wave comment is ‘poor surf conditions’ every time. The water temp is sitting at 61°F, which is pretty much normal for the time of year, so that’s not the issue. The problem is no size and bad wind. You’d be fighting chop and wind bumps for nothing.
There is a tiny glimmer on the morning of Tuesday the 14th of July. The wind goes glassy, and the wave comment shifts to ‘surfable waves but very ordinary conditions’. It’s only 3ft from the north with a short 6-second period, so it’s gonna be weak and fat, but if you're desperate, that’s your window. The combined energy is just 148, though, so it’s weak.
After that, it's right back to small, short-period swell and onshore winds from the north-northeast. By the time we get to the 17th and 18th of July, the combined energy drops below 100 (101, 56, 26, etc.) and the swell height barely scrapes 2ft. There's nothing else to recommend, honestly. This is one of those classic flat spells for the region. Keep the board in the car just in case, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
