Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here checkin’ in. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for The Breakwater-St Ives over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. This spot is a point break that’s already inconsistent, and we’re staring down a long, flat, and choppy run. The first solid recommendation doesn’t show up until over a week from now, so we’re in for a wait.
Right now, through the start of July, it’s all small and messy. Swell heights are hovering around 2 ft to 4 ft from the west or west-northwest, but the wind is mostly cross-onshore, leaving the surface choppy. Energy is weak – mostly in the 75 to 314 range – so not much to get excited about. The break is fairly exposed, but with that persistent cross-on breeze, it’s just not happening. Water temp is about average for the time of year – nothing unusual.
Then, around Saturday the 11th of July, we see a spike in size. Morning brings a 5 ft swell from the north, with a short period of 7 seconds and cross-offshore wind from the southwest. Energy bumps up to 305 (moderate). The wind keeps it clean, but that period is short and the swell is a bit too straight for the point’s optimum direction from the northwest. Still, for a break that rarely fires, this is the only halfway decent window in the whole outlook. The afternoon drops back down with stronger wind and even shorter period – not worth the paddle.
After that, the forecast goes back to small, cross-onshore chop for the rest of the week. By Sunday the 19th, there’s a 2 ft north-northwest swell with a 12-second period and moderate offshore wind from the south, but it’s cleaned up too late and too small. The long period might make it break a bit too straight for the point, but the wind direction is promising – just not enough juice.
Best bet? If you’re keen and willing to wait, the morning of Saturday the 11th is the standout. It’s not a classic, but with clean cross-offshore wind and the biggest swell of the period, you might find a few lumpy ones. Just know the break is inconsistent, so don’t expect a party. Other than that, the next week and a half is a write-off. Keep an eye on the sky – forecasts can change.
Rusty.
