Table - best surf conditions forecast for Gwithian over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough stretch for Gwithian. The forecast is looking pretty flat and uninspiring for the next couple of weeks, so we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
Right now, and for the next several days, the surf is barely there. We’re looking at tiny, weak waves – mostly around 0.7 ft to 3 ft – with a combined swell energy that just doesn’t have any punch. The numbers are low, mostly in the double digits (like 26 to 125), which tells you there’s no real power in the water. The wind is all over the place, too. There’s a bit of a window on Friday the 10th morning with a light cross-offshore breeze and a clean 3 ft swell from the west, but it’s still a very ordinary wave and not worth getting excited about. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing dramatic.
The whole first week is a write-off. We’ve got a long gap of days with no real recommendations. Sunday the 12th to Wednesday the 15th sees some offshore winds, but the swell is either tiny or switched to a weird, long-period 19-second groundswell that’s only 0.7 ft – that’s not going to do anything at a beach. The wind gets strong, even hitting 25 mph on the 13th, which is just messy.
The second week is no better. From the 16th to the 23rd, it’s onshore winds, cross-shore chop, and waves that are barely a ripple. The combined energy stays in the 50s and 80s – weak. It looks more like a kite-surfing setup than a paddle-surfing one, with those consistent cross-onshore winds and poor quality.
The one thing that catches my eye is way out at the end, on Friday the 24th of July. The morning shows a jump in swell to 6 ft from the west-northwest, with a combined energy of 259 (moderate). That’s a proper bump in size. But the wind is light cross-onshore, which will put some ripples on it. It’s a long way off, so call it a promising but uncertain prospect. If that holds, Gwithian could finally have some proper lines, but it’s a long wait.
Rusty.
