Table - best surf conditions forecast for Gwithian over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – the next week or so is pretty grim. There’s a real dry spell of decent surf, with nothing really worth paddling out for until the 20th of July. That’s a solid eight or nine days of small, weak, or messy conditions. The couple of days before that, on the 19th, do see a bit of a bump in size, but the wind is all wrong, coming cross-onshore, so it’s just gonna be a choppy, ugly mess for the most part.
So, the first real standout window arrives on the morning of Monday, 20th July. We’ll be at Gwithian, a fairly exposed spot that picks up a WNW swell. The swell is a bit of a mixed bag, but the morning session looks like the call. You’ve got a 4ft West-northwest swell with a gentle offshore breeze from the ESE. That’s going to clean things up nicely. The waves will be on the smaller side, but the clean conditions will make it a fun one for beginners and longboarders. The water temp is about 62°F, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year, so it’s not too bad.
The real highlight, though, the one that’s got me a bit excited, is the Tuesday afternoon, 21st of July. We’re looking at a 4ft West-northwest swell with a period of 9 seconds, and it’s coming with a light cross-offshore breeze from the ENE. The combined energy is a solid 458 (moderate) – a sign that there’s some proper power in the water. This is the best combination of size, shape, and clean conditions we’ve seen all forecast. The waves should be punchy and fun, with a bit more push. Keep in mind, Gwithian is a consistent spot, so it’s reliable, but it can get crowded when it’s good, so get out there early.
The Wednesday morning, 22nd July, still has some clean 3ft leftovers, but the energy is dropping. The following week, from the 23rd onwards, fades off again into small, weak, and onshore junk. The very last day in the window, Sunday morning, 26th July, shows another promising pulse. A 6ft West-northwest swell with a 7-second period rolls in, but it’s a shorter period, so it’ll be a bit steeper and more powerful. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the NE, which is a huge plus. The combined energy is 325 (moderate), so it’s got some grunt. This one is for the more experienced crew, as that size and short period makes for a punchy, critical wave that’s not for beginners.
So, to wrap it up: the pick of the week is Tuesday afternoon, 21st July. The backup is Monday morning, 20th July, and the long-range, slightly less certain but promising call is Sunday morning, 26th July.
Rusty.
