Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the forecast is looking pretty grim for a long stretch. We’ve got a real flat spell coming up, and for the first eight days or so, there’s basically nothing worth paddling out for. From Friday the 10th of July right through to the middle of the following week, the swell is tiny, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the water’s going to be choppy and lumpy. You’d be better off leaving the board in the car.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Friday the 24th of July. That’s when a new WNW swell starts to push in. Carbis Bay will see chest-high waves around 4ft, coming from the WNW, with a period of 10 seconds. That’s a decent groundswell, and the wind is looking light and offshore – a clean, cross-off breeze. The combined energy will be moderate at 322, so there’s some push behind it. The water temp is about what you’d expect for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
Saturday the 25th of July is probably the standout of the entire 16-day window. The swell drops back a touch to 4ft, but it’s still from the WNW, with a period of 10 seconds. The wind turns offshore – true offshore – out of the SW at 12 mph. That’s clean, lined-up surf. The energy is still solid at 312. This is the one to pencil in. It’s still a week and a half away, so treat it as promising but not locked in, but it’s the only real highlight on the horizon.
Before that, you’re looking at a long, quiet period. The water’s going to be flat and messy. It’s one of those blank runs that’s more normal for the area when the swell windows don’t line up. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th are your best bets.
Rusty.
