The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here, breaking down the next 16 days at Carbis Bay. We've got a slow start – the first few days are pretty much dead flat with tiny, wind-blown slop. You're looking at nearly a week of it, so no rush to get the board out.
Things finally stir on Thursday, 27th of August. We get a 6ft swell out of the Southwest. It's short-period stuff at 8 seconds, so it'll be a bit weak, but the wind is clean. The combined energy reads 374 – moderate – but with a risk of thunderstorms, it's a marginal call.
Mark down Friday, 28th of August. That's the big day. The swell builds from 7ft in the morning to a solid 10ft from the West in the afternoon. That's expert territory. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it'll be dumpy. The wind is offshore all day, and the combined energy in the afternoon is a real wallop at 1080, which is strong wave energy. Big, clean, and heavy. Not for the faint of heart.
After that we're back to choppy conditions through the weekend with 5ft to 5ft swell and onshore breezes.
Take note of Monday, 31st of August for the morning. We've got a 5ft West swell, still short-period at 8 seconds, but the wind is completely glassy. That means perfectly smooth waves. The combined energy is 354, moderate, but the clean conditions make it a great session for a skilled surfer.
The real sleeper is Friday, 4th of September. The morning offers 4ft from the West-Northwest with zero wind – just dead glass. The combined energy is 497, moderate. That afternoon the wind stays light offshore, the swell nudges to 5ft, and the period stretches to 12 seconds. That's proper groundswell, the kind with real push, though it might run a bit straight on the beach. With clean faces, this could be the best quality surf of the whole outlook. It's a long way off, but it looks promising.
For beginners, stay out of the water on Friday the 28th. Your best bet is the glassy Monday morning of the 31st of August or the clean, longer-period waves on Friday the 4th of September.
Rusty, signing off.
