Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Carbis Bay.
To be straight with you, it's a bit of a flat spell for the most part. The forecast kicks off with a tiny pulse on Monday the 6th of July, with some 3ft waves from the WNW. The wind is cross-off at 3 mph, so the surface will be clean enough, but the swell energy is only weak (104). It's surfable, but it's pretty ordinary. The water temp is sitting at 60°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
After that, it's a real dry spell. From Tuesday the 7th right through to Wednesday the 15th of July, the conditions are just poor. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is small and weak. We're looking at a solid 10-day gap with nothing worth paddling out for. There's a tiny bit of a long-period groundswell on the 13th, but it's only 0.7ft with a 19-second period and a 19 mph cross-onshore wind. That's a no-go.
Things start to look a little more interesting on Thursday the 16th of July. The morning is clean with a light cross-off breeze, but the swell is still tiny at 1ft. The afternoon is where it gets a bit more promising: a 5ft swell from the WSW with a 12 mph offshore wind. That's a clean look, but the energy is still moderate (186) and the wave comment is just "surfable but ordinary." It's a start, but not a standout.
The real standout of the whole forecast, and I mean the only one worth circling on your calendar, is Friday the 17th of July. We've got a solid 5ft swell from the WSW, with a moderate combined energy of 383. The wind is light from the NNW at 6 mph in the morning, giving us a light cross-shore with only small wind ripples. It's a bit cross, but it's clean enough. The period is 8 seconds, so it's a short-period wind swell, but it's the biggest and cleanest of the lot. It's a beginner-friendly size, but still fun for most. The afternoon stays similar, with a gentle cross-shore breeze. This is your best shot.
After that, the swell picks up, but the wind turns nasty. On the 18th and 19th, we see 7ft and 5ft swells, but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. By the 20th and 21st, the swell is pumping at 8ft from the W, with combined energy going through the roof (1156 on the 21st). But that's for experts only, and with a fresh cross-onshore wind at 22 mph, it's going to be a lumpy, messy battle. Not a fun paddle.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a write-off, and the second week is mostly poor. The only real window is Friday the 17th of July. Get out there early if you can, because that's the best it's going to get.
