Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got for the next couple of weeks.
Right now, we’re looking at a bit of a slow start. Carbis Bay is pretty much flat and messy for the first few days with strong cross-onshore winds and no good surf on offer. The combined swell energy is weak, and the conditions just aren't there. You’re better off keeping the board in the van.
The first real chance of a wave comes on Friday, July 3rd in the morning. We’ve got a clean 5ft swell rolling in from the west with a nice 10-second period and light cross-offshore winds. The combined energy is moderate (395), and it’s about as good as it’s going to get for a while. The water temp is 61°, which is pretty average for this time of year – nothing unusual there. Friday afternoon holds a slightly smaller 4ft swell, still clean but with a bit more breeze, so the morning is the pick.
After that, the surf drops off quickly. Saturday and Sunday see waist-high slop with weak energy and cross-shore winds – not worth paddling out for. Monday has small, clean 3ft waves, but it’s ordinary at best.
Then we hit a big dry spell. From Tuesday, July 7th right through to Thursday, July 16th, there’s nothing but tiny, choppy junk. The swell energy drops into double digits, and the wind is almost always cross-onshore and often strong. There’s a weird little spike on Friday, July 10th afternoon with a 5ft swell, but it’s only 6 seconds of period from the north with a fresh cross-onshore breeze – that’s a messy closeout, more for kites than paddles.
So, the only standout here is that Friday morning, July 3rd at Carbis Bay. It’s not big, but it’s clean, the direction is good, and the wind is light. It’s the one session worth chasing. After that, you’re waiting a long time. The forecast confidence for the second week is low anyway, so keep an eye on it, but right now it’s looking like a long flat spell.
Stay tuned, but for now, that Friday morning is your only real shot.
Rusty.
