Table - best surf conditions forecast for Carbis Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. I’ve had a look at the charts for the coming weeks, and I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s a rough stretch ahead for our shores. The entire 16-day window is pretty much a write-off for decent waves. That’s a long, blank run, and honestly, for this area, that’s not totally out of the ordinary; we get these flat, wind-whipped periods sometimes.
Let’s just walk through the gloom. Starting now, on July 7th, we’ve got small, weak swell at Carbis Bay. It’s barely 2 ft from the W with a short 8-second period, and the energy is weak, reading just 78. The wind is cross-offshore, which is about the only positive, but with next to no power, it’s not going to offer anything rideable. Water temp is 60°, pretty much bang on average for this time of the year.
Moving through the rest of the week and into the weekend, it just gets worse. The swell stays tiny, mostly around 2 ft to 3 ft, but the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, chopping up what little bump there is. By July 11th and 12th, we’re seeing onshore winds up to 15 mph, and the energy drops right off into the weak double digits. It’s just messy and unappealing.
Into the second week, from July 14th onwards, it’s a similar story of onshore winds and tiny, weak swell, with combined energy readings mostly below 100. We see some bigger wind speeds – 25 to 28 mph – but it’s all cross-onshore and creating horrible conditions. There’s a quick moment on July 15th with a clean cross-offshore wind and a tiny 4 ft swell, but the period is a disastrous 4 seconds, so it’ll be nothing but lumpy, unorganized whitewater.
The only real pulse of energy shows up right at the end of the forecast, on July 22nd. We get a 6 ft swell from the W with an 8-second period, giving us a moderate wave energy reading of 351. The wind is cross-offshore, so the face should be clean. But even then, it’s still rated as poor surf conditions, and because the swell is over 5 ft, it’s getting too big for beginners. Given the onshore wind history and the short period, it’s likely going to be a bit of a closeout machine at this beach-and-reef setup. Honestly, with that much wind and small, weak swell throughout the period, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, there you have it. A long, quiet spell. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
