The Lowdown
Alright, let's get into it for Carbis Bay. The first week is a tough one to love.
Honestly, the first week or so is a bit of a write-off. We’ve got a long stretch of poor conditions with only a couple of barely surfable windows. The wind is a real problem, mostly cross-off or cross-on and often howling, which just ruins the shape. The swell is a mix of short-period, weak stuff, and even when it does pick up a little, the wind is wrong. The only real bright spot in the near term is a morning on the 27th of August, where we get a clean 5ft swell from the WNW with a light offshore wind and light breeze. The energy is weak (185), but it’s the cleanest it’ll be, so for a sneaky dawny, it might be your only chance.
You'll have to wait until the very end of the forecast for the real payoff. The standout, and the best on offer by a long shot, is on the 1st of September. Tuesday afternoon at Carbis Bay is looking like the one to circle. We’ve got a solid 7ft swell from the WSW, with a moderate offshore wind from the SSW. That’s a proper setup. The energy is strong (794), and the forecast says "expect very good surf conditions." That’s not a word I use lightly. For a wave that size, it’s going to be a proper challenge. Anything over 8ft is expert-only, and this is close to that, so it’s best left for the crew who know what they’re doing. The morning of that day is also decent with 6ft from the west, but the afternoon is the clear winner. It’s a long way out, so keep an eye on it, but that’s your best bet.
The rest of the second week is a mix of clean but weak or messy conditions. There’s a couple of other sessions that might be okay, like the 31st of August with 5ft and offshore winds, but the energy is much lower (around 300). The 1st of September is the true standout.
