Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, let’s have a look at the waves for Carbis Bay over the next couple of weeks.
The outlook is a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest. The swell is pretty modest for the most part, and the wind isn’t always playing ball. The first few days look ordinary, so hold your horses, the real action is tucked away further out.
The best bet in the whole run looks like the Friday the 18th of July morning. We’ve got a 4ft SW groundswell with 7 seconds period, which is a bit short but with moderate combined energy (251). The wind is a clean WSW cross-off, so the surface should be looking tidy. You’ll want your wetsuit for 61° water, which is bang on average for July. Crowds can sometimes pick up here, but with the week’s conditions, it might be a quieter session.
After that, the real standout is the Friday the 18th of July afternoon – a 7ft W swell with 8 seconds period and a 495 combined energy reading. That’s a lot of punch. The wind stays WNW cross-off, so expect some proper, powerful waves. It’s going to be too big for beginners though, and it’s right at that 8ft edge, so better for the lads and lasses with a bit of experience. That afternoon will be the pick of the entire period.
Before those highlights, there’s a long dry spell. From the start up to mid-July, the surf is mostly small, weak, and chewed up by onshore or cross-shore winds. The Monday the 14th of July morning has 3ft W swell (10s period) but the wind is a light onshore and it’s messy. The Thursday the 16th of July morning offers 4ft SSW swell with 6 seconds period – short, junky, and clean with WNW cross-off, but still poor. The Tuesday the 15th of July morning has a tiny 2ft W swell (9s) and clean conditions, but you’d be hard pushed to get a decent ride.
From the 19th July onwards it fades again with small, lumpy, cross-onshore junk. So the real action is just that one afternoon of the 17th July – if I was you, I’d be eyeing up Friday 17th afternoon and the Saturday 18th morning as your window. A rare burst of proper swell with clean winds, but don’t expect it to last.
Keep your eyes peeled – the forecast can always flip.
