Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, fellow surfers, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Gotta be straight with you: the forecast is a pretty grim one. We’re looking at a long stretch of very ordinary to poor surf, with hardly a standout session in the mix. Right now, the only real blip of hope is a very small, clean window on Monday morning, but even that is nothing to write home about.
We start the run on Monday, July 6th, at Carbis Bay. Water temp is sitting at 60°, which is about average for the time of year – nothing unusual there. The morning session is the best we’ll see for a while: a little 3 ft swell rolling in from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is a light cross-off, keeping things clean. The combined energy is weak (104). It’s surfable, but very ordinary. After that, it’s a long, slow slide into mediocrity.
From Monday afternoon right through to the start of the second week, the story is the same: the swell stays tiny, the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, and the conditions get choppy and messy. The combined energy levels drop below 100 most of the time, with a few days dipping into the 60s and 70s. There’s a brief spike on the 8th (Wednesday) with a 3 ft WNW swell and a 10-second period, pushing energy to 120, but the wind is a light cross-on, and the quality is poor. It’s just not worth getting wet.
The second week is even worse. The wind goes ballistic, with strong breezes and fresh onshore flow from the east making a mess of things. The swell is tiny and mixed with short, weak periods. There’s one moment on the 14th (Tuesday) where a 1 ft swell from the west shows up with a long 11-second period, pushing energy to 103, but the wind is cross-on and choppy. It’s a tease.
Right at the very end of the outlook, on Tuesday, July 21st, we see a jump in swell size with a 7 ft NW swell, but it’s accompanied by a short period (7 seconds) and a strong onshore wind. The combined energy hits 357, but it’s a messy, lumpy mess. For a beach break, that’s a recipe for closeouts and chop. It’s more suited for the kite surfers than paddle surfers.
So, what’s the call? Monday morning, July 6th, at Carbis Bay is the only true standout, and that’s only because it’s the cleanest of a very rough bunch. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window. Otherwise, it’s a long wait. The good news is that forecasts can change, and it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Stay salty.
Rusty.
