Table - best surf conditions forecast for Carbis Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s run through what’s brewing for Carbis Bay over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, things are looking pretty grim. From Friday, July 10th through to the morning of Wednesday, July 22nd, we’re stuck in a flat spell. The swell is tiny, winds are messy – mostly cross-onshore, choppy, lumpy, and just plain frustrating. There’s a glassy moment on Friday, July 17th, but the wave height is only 0.7ft from the SSW, so you’d be floating, not surfing. Not worth the wet suit.
Then Wednesday, July 22nd, the swell finally starts pumping. We get a 6ft west swell (period 7 seconds) with combined energy of (334). That’s a lot of water moving, but the wind is cross-shore from the ESE at 15 mph, and conditions are described as poor. That kind of size – over 5ft – is into expert territory, so it’s not a beginner-friendly day.
Thursday, July 23rd is where we start to see a window. In the morning, we get a 4ft west swell with cross-offshore winds from the SSE at 15 mph and clean conditions. Combined energy is a solid (301). That’s a decent push. In the afternoon, it drops a touch to 4ft, but the wind goes offshore from the WSW at 9 mph, and it’s clean with gentle offshore winds. Period is 9 seconds, so it’s a groundswell but not overly long. It’ll shape up nicely. Carbis Bay can be inconsistent, so don’t expect a non-stop show, but when the sets come, they’ll be clean. Water temp is 62°, which is about average for the time of year – nothing unusual there.
Friday, July 24th also looks clean with offshore winds from the SW, but the swell is smaller – 3ft to 3ft – so it’s a longboard or small-wave board kind of day. Still, clean and surfable beats the previous week.
Then Saturday, July 25th brings another jump: a 6ft west swell with fresh offshore winds from the SW at 18 mph, and combined energy is up at (415) and (446) across the day. That’s strong wave energy, but the report says marginal or ordinary conditions. With over 5ft and a fresh breeze, that’s one for the experienced crew only. Period is 8 to 9 seconds, so not super long, but enough push.
The standout in this forecast is Thursday, July 23rd afternoon – that 4ft, 9-second west swell with gentle offshore wind and clean conditions. It’s the best combo of size and quality we see. Saturday, July 25th has more size but rougher conditions, so it’s your call if you’re up for a challenge.
That’s the rundown for Carbis Bay. Keep an eye on it, but Thursday afternoon is your best bet right now.
Rusty.
