The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks.
It’s a slow start. The first real surfable day isn’t until Tuesday, 25 August. Before that, the swell is small, the wind is off, and the conditions are just poor. You’re better off checking the surf report later.
The big standout is Tuesday morning, 25 August, at Carbis Bay. Swell hits 10ft out of the SW, with a 9-second period. That’s a lot of energy (1156) and the wind is cross-off, keeping it clean. Water temp is 64°, right around average for this time of year. This is the best swell of the whole run, but it’s big—only for the experienced crew.
After that, it’s a mixed bag. Wednesday the 26th has a morning with offshore wind and 3ft of swell, but it’s just ordinary. Thursday the 27th has 6ft but light cross-on wind, making it a bit lumpy. Not worth rushing out for.
The next real highlight is Tuesday, 1 September, afternoon session at Carbis Bay. Swell is 6ft from the WSW, 7-second period, with a moderate offshore wind. The guidance says “expect good surf conditions” and the energy is moderate (338). That’s a clean, fun wave.
After that, the 2nd of September has a weird long-period swell (19 seconds) but only 1ft. Total dud.
So, the two best calls are Tuesday morning, 25 August for the big SW groundswell, and Tuesday afternoon, 1 September for clean, offshore lines. Don’t expect much in between.
Rusty.
