The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Carbis Bay over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the outlook is a bit of a slow one. For the first ten days, the surf is tiny and the wind is a problem. The first real chance of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Saturday the 25th of July, so there’s a long gap of almost nothing worthwhile before that. Once we get there, the energy picks up but the conditions are still tricky.
The standout session is actually Saturday the 25th of July afternoon. The swell bumps up to a clean 6 ft from the NNW, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined swell energy is moderate (263), and the wind turns cross-offshore from the NW, which will clean the waves right up. This is the best looking window in the whole 16 days, but it’s a long way out, so keep an eye on the forecast. The 6 ft surf is manageable for most intermediates, but it’s getting a bit punchy for total beginners.
The morning of the 25th is also worth a mention, with a 5 ft NNW swell, but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy, so the afternoon is a much better call.
Carbis Bay is a fairly exposed spot, optimum swell direction is from the WNW. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there. It’s an inconsistent break, so when it does fire, you have to be ready. Crowds are possible here sometimes.
For the rest of the period, we’ve got light winds and glassy conditions on the 22nd and 23rd of July, but the swell is a pathetic 1.0 ft, so it’s a flat spell. The 26th and 27th bring some offshore winds, but again, the waves are tiny. Honestly, the best call is to pencil in the 25th afternoon and hope the forecast holds.
Stay patient.
Rusty.
