Table - best surf conditions forecast for Carbis Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me have a look at what we’ve got for Carbis Bay over the next couple of weeks. Truth be told, it’s pretty bleak. There’s no surf worth paddling out for in the first half of the forecast, and even when we get into the back half, there’s barely a whisper. If you’re itching for a session, you’ll be waiting a long time.
From right now, we’re looking at a solid stretch of flat to tiny, messy waves. Through Wednesday the 8th and right into the weekend, we’ve got swells hanging around 3 ft to 3 ft, but the wind is a nightmare – cross-onshore or onshore most of the time, with a fresh breeze picking up on Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th, hitting 18 to 28 mph from the east. That’s going to chop it up bad. The combined swell energy is weak to moderate at best, sitting around 120 to 149 for most of that week (weak energy), dropping to as low as 72 on Sunday afternoon. Not worth the wetsuit.
That dry spell drags on for over a week. We don’t see anything that even sniffs at being rideable until Thursday the 23rd of July. That’s a long wait – over two weeks.
Now, Thursday the 23rd morning is where we finally get a pulse. A fresh offshore wind from the WSW at 22 mph is blowing clean, and the swell bumps up to 6 ft from the same direction. The period is short at 7 seconds, so it’s windswell, but the combined energy jumps to 346 (moderate energy). That’s the best on offer, but it’s marginal. The waves will be clean and hollow-ish due to the offshore wind, but that short period means it’ll be a bit lumpy and fat at times. Still, for a surf-starved stretch, it’s your only real shot.
The afternoon of the 23rd gets bigger – 10 ft from the WSW with a 9-second period – but that’s expert-only territory. The wind cranks to 25 mph offshore, so it’ll be clean but heavy and hard to get into. Combined energy hits 1441 (strong energy). Not for the faint of heart.
Carbis Bay itself is a beginner-friendly spot, but with these waves and winds, it’s a no-go for most. Water temperature is about average for the time of year at 60°, nothing unusual there. Crowds can be a thing here sometimes, but honestly, with the lack of surf, the beach will likely be quiet.
For a standout, the only windows are the Thursday the 23rd morning session for intermediate-to-advanced surfers, and the afternoon for experts only. Everything else is a flat, windy mess. If the wind stays offshore on the 23rd, it could be a fun, punchy little session – but keep expectations low.
Rusty.
