The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. We’re looking at a tough stretch ahead for Carbis Bay. The next week and a half is mostly flat, choppy, or blown out, so you’ll be sitting this one out unless you’re desperate for a paddle. The water is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only good news for a while.
We’ve got a long, quiet gap from Saturday the 18th of July right through until the morning of Saturday the 25th. Those first days are basically no-go: tiny, weak swell, cross-onshore winds, and just poor conditions across the board.
The first real glimmer shows up on Tuesday morning, 29th of July. The swell lifts to a clean 5ft out of the WNW (period 7 seconds), and the wind turns cross-off from the WNW. The combined wave energy hits 237 (moderate), but the surf is still nothing to write home about. That afternoon, conditions clean up a bit more with gentle cross-off winds and a 5ft WNW swell – it’s surfable, but just ordinary.
The standout window for the whole forecast is Thursday, 30th of July. The morning brings a clean 7ft WNW swell (8 seconds) with a fresh offshore wind from the SSW. That’s proper offshore, and the energy is up at 464 (moderate-strong). It’s a little on the bigger side – pushing into expert territory if you’re not confident. The afternoon is even better: 6ft WNW groundswell (8 second period) and moderate offshore winds from the SW. The energy jumps to 868 (strong), and the forecast says expect very good surf conditions. This is your window. It’s a short one, though.
By Friday the 31st, it’s back to onshore junk again, with 5ft to 5ft WNW swell getting wrecked by fresh NE winds. The first couple of days of August look poor too, with dropping swell and choppy conditions.
If you can make Thursday the 30th work, that’s the only real quality window here. Otherwise, you’re waiting for the next system.
Rusty.
