Table - best surf conditions forecast for Carbis Bay over the next 16 days.
Right, Carbis Bay – let’s be real here. I’ve looked over the next couple of weeks and honestly, there’s nothing to get excited about. This is a tough stretch. For the first eleven days, you’re looking at poor conditions across the board. The swell is small, the wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, and the wave energy is weak. We’re talking combined swell energy in the low double digits or triple figures (87, 64, 60, 65, 97, 68, 43, 63, 71, 38, 55, 29, 16) – just not enough push for a proper wave. Most days the period is short, under 8 seconds, so the waves are lumpy and weak.
From Saturday 19 July, things pick up a bit in size – the swell comes from the WNW at 4ft to 5ft with periods around 6-7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps up to 153 and 213. But the wind is still cross-on or cross-shore, and the report keeps saying “poor surf conditions.” That’s a real shame because the water temperature is a nice 62°F, which is about average for the time of year.
There’s a little glimmer on Friday 24 July morning. The swell is tiny at 2ft from the west, period 9 seconds, and the wind is a light cross-off from the WNW. The energy is only 92, and the call is “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s the only session that scores a 1 out of 10, so it’s not a standout – just the least bad option.
For the rest of the second week, from Saturday 25 July into Monday 26 July, the swell bumps up again to 3ft and then 6ft from the WNW. The 6ft on Sunday 26 July morning comes with light onshore wind and a combined energy of 325, but the period is only 7 seconds and the wind is on. Later that afternoon, the wind swings cross-off and it’s clean, but the swell drops to 5ft. Still, the guidance says “poor surf conditions.” For a beginner spot like Carbis Bay – which is inconsistent and rarely works well – this run is pretty normal. It’s a beach break that just isn’t getting the right combo.
Plainly, there are zero good surf options in the 16-day window. The surf is either too small, too messy, or the wind ruins it. If you have a kite, a few of those cross-on days with some size might be worth a look, but for a paddle board, you’re best waiting for a change in the pattern. Forecasts can shift, and it tends not to stay this poor forever.
