Alright, let’s look at what Carbis Bay has cooking for us.
It’s going to be a bit of a waiting game over the next couple of weeks. The start of the period is thin, so don’t rush to grab your board. There’s a small window of hope, but you’ve got to be patient.
We start off on Saturday morning, the 4th of July. You’ve got waves around 4ft from the W, with a 10-second period. The combined swell energy is moderate at 296. The wind is cross-off from the WNW, so it’ll be clean, but the overall quality is just marginal. It drops off that afternoon and gets a bit messier. Sunday and Monday are pretty poor with small, weak swell and side-shore winds. Monday morning the 6th is a little better – 3ft from the WNW, with a clean cross-off breeze. It’s surfable, but very ordinary, with low energy (104). The water temp is about normal for this time of year.
Then we hit a long stretch of poor, small, and onshore conditions that lasts right through to the following week. The good news is that Saturday morning, the 11th of July, looks like the one to set your sights on. The swell jumps to 5ft from the N, with a short 7-second period. The combined energy hits 305, which is moderate. The wind is offshore from the SW, so it’ll be clean. It’s the only time in the whole run where the swell and wind really click for a proper session. It is a short-period swell though, so it might be a bit walled-off and lack the punch of a groundswell, but for this stretch, it’s the best on offer. It’s a beginner-friendly size too, so that’s a plus.
After that, the surf drops back down and gets messy again. Sunday the 12th is smaller, with onshore winds picking up. The following week is more of the same with poor conditions, a lot of side-shore wind, and generally weak, short-period energy.
The 14th of July, Tuesday, has a spike in combined energy to 552 in the afternoon, with 4ft from the WNW, but it’s ruined by a moderate side-shore wind. The quality just isn’t there. The rest of the second week is a washout with tiny waves and strong winds. There’s nothing else worth getting excited about.
So, the one to aim for is that Saturday morning, the 11th of July. It’s the only time the offshore wind and a decent-sized swell come together.
