Right then, folks. Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Bossiney Haven has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. I'll level with you straight up: this is a grim stretch. The finder is giving us a near-blank run, so we're looking at a long period of nothing much to get excited about. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that's about the only bright spot.
We kick off on Wednesday the 8th of July, but it's a non-starter. Bossiney Haven is a sheltered little nook, and with a 2 ft swell from the west and a cross-onshore breeze, it's just poor. The combined energy is weak at 64, and it's going to be choppy. That sets the tone for the next week and a half.
Thursday the 9th through to Tuesday the 14th is more of the same. The swell is small, generally under 3 ft, and the wind is all over the shop – onshore, cross-onshore, cross-shore. It's a right mess. The energy is weak, never breaking 100. Monday the 13th sees a strong breeze, 25 mph, making it proper messy. Honestly, for a beginner-friendly, fairly consistent spot, this is a poor run. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with those strong cross-shore winds.
We get a bit of a breather on Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th, but the swell drops to a tiny 1 ft. The combined energy is down in the teens and twenties. It's clean with a cross-offshore breeze, but there's just no push. You'd be bobbing around on a lake.
The pattern continues through the rest of the second week. Friday the 17th to Sunday the 19th is all tiny, onshore slop. The swell is a few inches high, the energy is pathetic, and the wind is straight on it. It's a write-off.
Then, right at the tail end of the 16-day window, we get a little flicker of hope. On Monday the 20th of July, the swell picks up to 3 ft in the morning, and 4 ft in the afternoon, from the NNW. The wind is a cross-offshore, which is clean. The combined energy pushes to 84 in the afternoon. That's still not a standout by any means, but it's the best we'll see. It's clean, but that 4 ft swell with a 5-second period is going to be pretty weak and fat. Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd are back to the same old story of small, choppy junk.
So, there you have it. There is no standout session in this 16-day window. The whole period is a big gap of poor surf. It's one of those blank runs that's more normal for this area when the conditions just don't line up. Keep an eye on the charts, because it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Rusty.
