Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bossiney Haven over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Well, I gotta be straight with ya – this outlook for the next couple of weeks is a tough one. We're looking at a long stretch of flat or near-flat conditions, and nothing really comes together for a proper surf until way down the track. You'll have to be patient.
The only break we've got to look at is Bossiney Haven, a sheltered beginner spot that's fairly consistent, but it's not seeing much love from the ocean for a solid week and a half. The water is sitting at 64°F at the start, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a solid 4°F above average.
From Saturday, July 11th right through until Thursday, July 24th, it's basically a write-off. Swell heights are mostly under 3ft, often as small as 1.0ft, and the energy is pathetic – we're talking numbers like 52, 45, even dropping down to 15. The wind is all over the place, mostly onshore or cross-shore, making for lumpy, choppy conditions. There are a few glassy or clean moments, like Tuesday, July 14th afternoon when it goes glassy, but the swell is only 1.0ft with a combined energy of just 24 – that's not enough to get excited about. That's a solid gap of nearly two weeks with no surf worth mentioning.
Now, if you've got the skills and you're willing to wait, the only thing that even raises an eyebrow is Friday, July 24th. On that afternoon, the swell bumps up to 10ft from the W with a period of 9 seconds, and the energy jumps right up to 1361 (strong). It's a big, powerful swell, but that puts it firmly in the "experts only" category – too big for beginners. The wind is a light cross-onshore from the NW, so it'll be a bit bumpy but still rideable for those with experience. The Saturday morning after that is still holding at 5ft with 533 energy (moderate) and a light onshore wind, but it's already dropping. It's a long-range call, so not set in stone, but that Friday the 24th is your best – and really, your only – shot at something with some punch.
Just a heads up: with that long-period groundswell (10 seconds) and the break being a sheltered cove, the waves might not wrap in perfectly. But for a strong W swell, it's the only game in town.
Until then, keep the board in the car and the wax in the pocket. These blank runs happen sometimes.
Rusty.
