Alright folks, Rusty here with the Bossiney Haven outlook. I gotta be straight with you – this one’s a bummer. The whole 16-day window from Monday 6th July all the way through to Tuesday 21st July is a write-off for surf. No waves worth paddling for, no standouts, just flat and grotty conditions the entire run.
We’re looking at Bossiney Haven, a sheltered little beginner spot that’s usually fairly consistent, but right now there’s nothing. The first day, Monday 6th afternoon, has a weak 2 ft swell from the west at a short 8 seconds, combined energy a meagre 73, and a light cross breeze at 6 mph. It’s poor. Tuesday 7th is even smaller – 2 ft – and the same story. Wednesday 8th morning goes glassy with the wind turning north, but the swell is still piddly at 2 ft and poor. That glassy spell hangs around through Thursday 9th morning, but again – 2 ft and no power. The water’s sitting at 62°F, which is about 3°F warmer than average for July, but that’s the only interesting thing.
From Friday 10th onwards, the swell tries to nudge up a little – 3 ft on Friday morning with combined energy of 106 – but it’s still a west swell with a short period, and the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore, making a mess. Saturday 11th drops back to 2 ft, Sunday 12th has a gusty 16 mph breeze and 2 ft of slop. The whole second week is even worse: Monday 13th brings a weird 0.3 ft swell with a 19-second period – that’s a very long period groundswell, but it’s so tiny it’s useless, and the wind is howling at 16 mph. The rest of the week sees heights between 0.7 ft and 2 ft, mostly from the west, with moderate cross-shore winds and choppy conditions. Even the occasional clean patch on the 15th and 16th afternoons with light offshore winds can’t save it – the swell’s just too small.
A glimmer appears on Sunday 19th: a 2 ft west swell with a 13-second period and clean, cross-off winds from the southeast at 19 mph. Combined energy hits 103, so moderate. But “poor surf conditions” is still the verdict – the wave height is tiny and the direction is off optimum. Even that’s not enough to get a recommendation. The very last day, Monday 20th, has a bit of west swell at 2 ft but onshore wind, and Tuesday 21st is back to flat.
So there you have it – no surf to chase in the next 16 days at Bossiney Haven. For a spot that’s usually fairly consistent, this is a real dry spell. It won’t last forever – forecasts can always change – but right now, leave the boards in the van.
Rusty.
