Table - best surf conditions forecast for Three Peaks over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about Three Peaks over the next 16 days. It’s a tale of two halves: a whole lot of nothing, then a big, clean pulse right at the end.
The first weekend, starting Friday the 10th, is a non-starter. We’ve got a tiny 2-foot west swell with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is a measly 57 – barely a ripple. The water is warm, at 67°F, which is about 8°F above normal for this time of year, so it’s a nice soak, but the surf is flat. From Saturday the 11th all the way through to Tuesday the 22nd, it’s a long stretch of tiny, near-flat conditions. Swell rarely gets above 1 foot, with periods all over the place but mostly weak. The combined energy readings are mostly in the single digits or low tens – that’s as flat as it gets. There’s a lot of cross-off and offshore wind in that period, but without any swell, it’s just a glassy, empty ocean.
You’ve got to wait until Wednesday the 22nd before anything changes. That morning, we see a 5-foot west swell, but the period is a short 7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 224 – still moderate, but it’s a start. The wind is cross-off from the north at 15 mph, keeping it clean, but it’s a bit of a bumpy one for beginners. The afternoon stays similar.
Now, Thursday the 23rd sees a bit more size: 7 feet from the west-southwest, period still short at 7 seconds, but the energy is up to 360. The wind turns cross-shore from the west-northwest, so it’s got a little chop on it. This is a powerful wave for a beginner, maybe too much.
The real standout, the one worth waiting for, is Friday the 24th. That’s the day. We’ve got a 13-foot swell from the west-southwest, with a period of 10 seconds – proper groundswell, long lines. The combined energy is a massive 2815 in the morning, making it strong, and the wind is offshore from the east-southeast at 15 mph. That’s clean, powerful, and for experts only. The afternoon stays similar with a 13-foot swell and 11-second period, but the wind turns cross-shore from the southeast, so it gets a bit messy. Honestly, this is a big, powerful, and potentially dangerous day unless you’re a seasoned charger.
Saturday the 25th drops back to 7 feet, but the wind is poor, and the energy is still high at 662. The conditions are messy, so it’s not the day to be out there.
So, if you’re a beginner, there’s nothing in this forecast for you. For the experienced crew, the only real window is Friday the 24th, and even then, it’s a big, powerful swell that’s only for the confident. The rest of the 16 days is a long, flat wait.
