Table - best surf conditions forecast for Three Peaks over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. The water is sitting at 67°F and that’s a whopping 8°F warmer than usual for this time of year, which is very unusual for Three Peaks. Feels more like a bath than a surf.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, the honest truth is there’s basically nothing that’s going to get the heart racing. We’ve got one small window that’s barely surfable, and then a long, flat gap of nearly two weeks. From Friday the 10th of July onward, we’re looking at swells that are just tiny – 1ft or less – and combine for very weak wave energy (values between 17 and as low as 1). It’s a proper dry spell for paddle surfing.
The only time the ocean even tries to show a pulse is on Friday the 10th of July. That morning, we’re looking at a 2ft swell from the W with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is a weak 59. The wind is a light cross-off from the east, so the surface will be clean. It’s not much, but it’s the best on offer. The conditions stay clean into the afternoon with a similar 2ft W swell and 56 energy, with a light cross-off from the NW. It’s surfable, but very ordinary – really just something to get the board wet if you’re desperate. Even then, the breaks are exposed to the W, and we need swell from the W to light it up, so it’s lining up about as well as it can for a day this small.
For the rest of the period, there’s just no recommending it. The swell drops to 0.3ft for days on end, mostly from the SW with periods that climb into the teens and even 21 seconds, which is a very long period. But with that kind of energy, it’s just a long-period groundswell hitting a spot with almost no height – it won’t break properly. The combined energy sits below 30 for most of those days, which is very weak. The wind is sometimes glassy or offshore on those days, so it *looks* pretty, but there’s nothing to surf. It’s a classic case of “could be good for a kayak, but not a surfboard.”
So, for the next 16 days, we’ve got one marginal day on Friday the 10th of July, and then a two-week gap of no real surf. Sometimes the area goes quiet, and this is one of those blanks. Forecasts can change, but right now, you’re better off saving the wax.
Rusty.
