Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Three Peaks has on the menu for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – this is one of those outlooks where patience is the name of the game. The entire 16-day window is a bit of a flat spell, so don’t go rushing to wax up just yet.
For the first week, from Sunday the 5th right through to Thursday the 10th of July, we’re looking at tiny surf, mostly under 2ft, with a lot of cross-onshore wind messing things up. The water temperature is sitting at 67°F, which is a whopping 8°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, almost like the ocean forgot what season it is. The combined swell energy is weak, with values scraping the bottom of the barrel, mostly in the 20s and 30s (weak energy). It’s a real struggle to find anything rideable. There’s a brief moment on Friday morning the 10th where things go glassy with a 2ft swell from the W, period 9 seconds, and the wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions”. That’s about the best we get in the first week, and that’s not saying much. Crowds are possible at Three Peaks.
Moving into the second week, from Saturday the 11th onward, the swell drops even further. We see a few clean windows with offshore or glassy wind, like Monday morning the 13th with a gentle offshore from the NNE and a tiny 0.3ft swell from the SW with a very long period of 20 seconds – that’s groundswell territory, but there’s simply no height to work with. Combined swell energy is still very weak (27). Wednesday morning the 15th and Saturday morning the 18th both have glassy conditions, but again we’re stuck with 1ft to 1ft. For a beach break like Three Peaks, a long-period swell this small is just going to roll through without breaking. It’s not worth paddling out for. The whole period is a write-off for any meaningful surf.
If you look at the combined energy, it’s all two-digit numbers below 100 – that’s weak energy across the board. For any of these days, the swell is under 5ft, so it’s not too big, but it’s also barely surfable. The consistent theme is poor surf conditions, with only a couple of rare glassy windows offering a sliver of hope. Honestly, for the next 16 days, there’s no standout. It’s a blank run, which is pretty normal for this area when it decides to go flat. Don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
