Table - best surf conditions forecast for Duckpool Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. The forecast for the next two weeks is a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch of days where you’ll be better off waxing your board at home than chasing waves. It’s going to be a real test of patience.
We start with the only real window of opportunity, and it’s a minor one. Thursday morning, July 9th at Duckpool Bay is about as good as it gets, and even then, it’s just a little ankle-snapper. We’re looking at a clean 2 ft swell from the west, with a period of 10 seconds. The wind is a light NNE cross-offshore, keeping the surface glassy. The combined swell energy is weak (96), so it’ll be small and gutless, but it’s the cleanest you’ll see it all week. The water temp is about average for July. Friday morning, July 10th, is similar with a 3 ft west swell, clean with an ENE cross-off again, and a slightly better energy reading (109), but it’s still just a knee-high dribbler.
After that, it’s a grim run. From Saturday, July 11th, all the way through to Wednesday, July 23rd, we are looking at a dead zone. The swell drops to barely a ripple, with heights mostly between 0.3 ft and 2 ft. The wind is often offshore or cross-off, but there’s just no energy in the water to push a wave. The combined energy scores are in the teens and twenties, which is essentially flat. You’ll see some long period (16-19 seconds) groundswell on the 12th, 13th, and 14th, but it’s only 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft, so it’s just a long wait between nothing. It’s a blank run that lasts nearly two weeks.
Then, on the very last day of the forecast, Thursday morning, July 24th, the chart suddenly lights up a bit. We get a 5 ft swell from the west-northwest, with a short 6-second period. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 184. But the wind is onshore from the west, and the report says “poor surf conditions.” The size is there for a beginner, but the onshore wind will turn it into a messy, lumpy closeout. This is likely one for the kites, not the paddle.
So, the honest truth is there’s no standout. The only remotely surfable window is the morning of July 9th and 10th, if you are desperate for a small, clean wave. Hold onto your board, boys. It’s going to be a long wait.
Rusty.
