The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Duckpool Bay.
Mate, to be honest, the outlook’s a bit of a rough one. We’ve got a 16-day window ahead, but the first surf that’s even worth a paddle is a ways off, and it’s not going to set the world on fire. There’s a big gap of nothing before we get a proper look.
The only real standout in this whole run is the morning of Thursday, September 4th. That’s over a week away, so keep that in mind, but it’s the best we’ve got. You’ll see a clean 5ft swell rolling in from the W, with a gentle cross-shore breeze. Combined wave energy is moderate at 306. It’s not going to be a world-class day, but it’s the only window where the conditions line up enough to be worth a session. The break itself is inconsistent, so don’t expect a wave every minute, but when they come, they’ll have a bit of shape.
Before that, it’s pretty grim. In the early days, we see a pulse of 6ft on August 20th, but it’s got a cross-on wind and feels choppy. That’s a no-go. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
The swell on August 29th jumps to 8ft, but with a cross-on wind and a short period of 8 seconds, it’s just messy and blown out. That’s more for the bodyboarders or the kite crowd, not a paddle surfer’s friend.
Later on, September 3rd shows a 7ft swell, but a near gale cross-on wind will have it completely trashed. Not worth even looking at.
So, to sum it up: if you’re desperate, mark your calendar for September 4th. Otherwise, it’s a long wait for a very average result. The breaks are inconsistent, and the conditions are rarely kind. It’s a tough run for Duckpool, but forecasts can change.
Rusty.
