Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here again, but in feet and miles per hour for you. Let's break down what Duckpool Bay is dishing up the next couple of weeks. I gotta level with you, it’s a tough read. This break is inconsistent, and this forecast doesn't give us much hope at all.
The big picture is a whole lot of tiny, weak swell getting hammered by onshore winds. There are big gaps of nothing good. The first proper chance to even get wet is a tiny window, and even then it's just barely surfable.
The first week is a total loss. From Sunday the 5th right through to Tuesday the 8th, we're looking at waves barely 1.5 to 2 feet, with weak energy and poor conditions. Constant onshore and cross-onshore wind, the whole bit. Don't bother.
Then, Wednesday morning the 8th of July, we get a tiny moment. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, but the swell is a pathetic 1.5 feet from the west with a 9-second period. The energy is a measly 42, but the surface will be clean. It’s surfable but very ordinary. That tiny window of clean conditions stretches into Thursday and Friday mornings with nice cross-offshore breezes, but the swell stays tiny, only hitting about 2.5 feet on Friday the 10th with moderate energy (110). If you *have* to get in the water, those mornings are the best you're gonna get.
Get ready for another flat spell. Saturday the 11th brings a bit more size – 4 to 5 feet – but it's a short-period windswell from the NNW (only 7 seconds) and the wind is a messy cross-onshore. That’s a hard no. Sunday the 12th is clean, but the swell drops back to 3 feet with a super short 5-6 second period. Not worth the drive.
From Monday the 13th through Thursday the 16th, it’s a mix of clean but tiny waves (knee-high at best) with moderate energy peaking at 141 on Tuesday. The periods get better (11-12 seconds), suggesting some groundswell, but there’s just no size behind it.
The second week holds the only real standout, and it's a mess. On Sunday, the 19th of July, the swell builds to a solid 5 feet in the morning and then jumps to over 7 feet in the afternoon out of the west-southwest. The energy cranks up to a strong 589 in the afternoon. That’s the biggest swell of the whole run. But the wind is onshore and then cross-onshore, and it's raining. It’s gonna be a choppy, lumpy nightmare. At over 7 feet, this is for experts only, and with the wind blowing it out, it’s honestly a better day for the kite surfers. The period is only 8 seconds, so it’s just a stormy, messy wall.
Monday the 20th is the last hurrah. We get a very strong 7-foot plus swell from the west (energy screaming up to 827) in the morning, but it’s blowing a fresh 35 mph cross-onshore. That’s a full-on washing machine. The afternoon drops to about 6 feet, but the wind is still a strong onshore 30 mph. Clean surf? Forget it. This is a beast for the hardest of the hardcore.
So, to wrap it up: if you’re really jonesing, the clean mornings from the 8th to the 10th of July are your only real shot, but don’t expect anything over knee-high. The big swells on the 19th and 20th of July are too wind-chapped to be any fun for a paddle surfer. It’s a rough outlook.
Stay salty.
