Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. We're looking at the next couple weeks for Duckpool Bay, and I gotta be straight with you – it's a quiet stretch. This spot is always a bit inconsistent, so a run of small, weak surf isn't a huge surprise, but it doesn't mean it stays flat forever. The first few days are pretty much a write-off. Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th offer nothing rideable – poor conditions all round. Then Wednesday morning the 8th we finally see a tiny bit of life: clean, glassy conditions with a 2ft west swell, 9-second period, but combined energy is only 60 (weak). It's surfable, but just barely – very ordinary.
That little window closes quickly. Wednesday afternoon goes cross-onshore and messy. Thursday the 9th morning brings another glassy session, again 2ft west, 10-second period, 71 energy – still tiny. Friday the 10th morning stays clean with a light cross-off breeze, 2ft west, 9 seconds, 88 energy. These are the sorts of days where you might get a few fun little runners if you're patient, but no power behind them.
Then we hit a real dry spell. From Saturday the 11th right through to Saturday the 18th, it's mostly poor surf – small, weak, or wind-affected. A few mornings have offshore or glassy conditions, but the swell drops to 0.3-1ft, periods all over the place, energy in the teens. Not worth paddling out for unless you're desperate for a float.
Now, the potential highlight comes Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th. Sunday morning the 19th we see a jump in energy – 2ft west swell with a 13-second period, combined energy 102 (moderate), but the wind is a fresh cross-off at 19 mph, so it'll be clean but breezy. Sunday afternoon is better: energy rises to 121 (moderate), 2ft west swell, 12-second period, and a moderate offshore breeze. That's the best combo in the whole outlook – decent groundswell, clean offshore wind, and the swell direction matches what Duckpool likes (west). The longer period (12 seconds) should give the waves a bit more shape, though it's still only waist-high. Crowds are possible here, so expect a few others if you go.
Monday the 20th morning looks promising too: glassy, 2ft west, 10 seconds, 81 energy – again very small but clean. But then it goes downhill again with rain showers and cross-onshore wind in the afternoon, and the rest of the forecast fades back to poor, tiny conditions through Tuesday the 21st.
So if you're itching for a wave, the pick is Sunday afternoon the 19th – the only session where swell energy and wind really line up. It's not going to be world-class, but it'll be the most rideable of the lot. The water temperature is about 63°F, which is nearly 4° warmer than normal for this time of year – that's a nice bonus for your bare feet.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the forecasts, and remember – it never stays poor forever. This is Rusty, signing off.
