Table - best surf conditions forecast for Duckpool Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, it’s Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s on offer for Duckpool Bay over the next 16 days. I’ll be straight with you – this is a tough stretch. The forecast is pretty grim, with no decent surf to get excited about for the entire period. We’ve got a long, blank run ahead of us, so if you’ve got other plans, don’t stress about missing out.
The first record kicks off on Wednesday, July 8th. The swell is a tiny 0.6m (about 2ft) from the west, with a weak combined energy of only 63. The wind is onshore and the condition is poor. It doesn’t get any better. The water temperature is sitting at 17°C (63°F), which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only bit of good news.
We move through Thursday, July 9th, and it’s more of the same – 0.7m (2ft) of west swell and a cross-shore breeze, but still poor. Not worth paddling out for. Friday, July 10th, the swell picks up a little to 0.8m (3ft), and we get a clean morning with a light cross-offshore wind, but the combined energy is only 110, and the waves are described as “very ordinary.” It’s surfable if you’re desperate, but it’s not a standout.
The rest of the first week is a washout. Saturday, July 11th, has a tiny 0.5m (2ft) swell with a short period of 8 seconds, and the wind is offshore, but the energy is weak at 54. Sunday, July 12th, sees a weird 0.1m (0.3ft) swell from the southwest with a 16-second period – that’s a long-period groundswell, but there’s barely any height. The combined energy is a pathetic 21. It’s clean but practically flat. The following days are the same story: tiny swells, strong offshore winds, and no wave height to speak of. By Monday, July 13th, the wind is howling at 40 km/h (25 mph) offshore, and the swell is 0.1m (0.3ft) with a 19-second period – it’s clean but you’d struggle to paddle into anything.
The second week doesn’t offer any hope either. From Tuesday, July 14th, through to Wednesday, July 22nd, the swell rarely gets above 0.3m (1ft), and when it does, like on Monday, July 20th, it’s a messy 1.2m (4ft) from the north-northwest with a short 5-second period and strong onshore winds. That’s not surf, that’s a washing machine. The combined energy never really breaks into the moderate range, sticking mostly in the teens and twenties. The last few days, like Wednesday, July 22nd, and Thursday, July 23rd, stay small and poor.
So, there you have it. No standouts here. The only time you might see a wave is on the morning of Friday, July 10th, with that 0.8m (3ft) west swell and clean conditions, but it’s a long way from being good. For the rest of the 16 days, you’re better off doing something else. The setup here is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing when the wind picks up, but that’s about it. Stay patient, folks. Forecasts can change, but this one’s a real heartbreaker.
Rusty.
