Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for Duckpool Bay. To be honest, the next week or so is a bit of a tough one. The swell’s small and pretty weak, with combined energy mostly under 100 (80) and poor conditions. Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th are a write-off – onshore winds, tiny waves. You’ll be staring at a flat, bumpy sea.
The first real glimmer comes on the morning of Wednesday the 8th. It’s glassy, dead calm with a light 2ft swell from the west, period around 9 seconds. It’s very small and the ripple’s barely there, but if you’re desperate for a splash, it’s about as clean as it gets for that size. The afternoon gets choppy again.
Friday the 10th morning looks a bit more hopeful. A gentle offshore breeze from the east, clean lines, and 2ft of west swell (energy 85). It’s still ankle-to-knee high, but the conditions will be tidy. Saturday the 11th also has offshore wind, but the swell shifts to a short-period, weak NNW pulse (6 seconds, energy 53) – not much push.
After that, the energy drops right off into the second week. The 12th through the 16th is mostly small, weak, or messy, with a brief uptick on the 16th where the swell jumps to 4ft but the period is a disappointing 6 seconds and the wind is onshore. Not worth the paddle.
Now, for the standout – and I mean the only real standout here. Look to the morning of Friday the 17th of July. You’ve got a 5ft swell from the west-southwest, with 9 seconds of period, and the combined energy is humming at a moderate 408. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the north-northeast, so it’ll be clean. This is the best quality you’ll see in the whole forecast period. It’s a solid head-high to a bit overhead, and a definite call to arms for intermediate surfers. Remember, it’s an inconsistent spot, so you’ll have to wait for the sets, but it should be worth it.
Monday the 20th of July and Tuesday the 21st look even bigger – 8ft of west swell (energy 856-942), but that’s getting into expert territory, especially at a beach setup. The wind on the Monday morning is cross-off from the NE, but the size and short period (8 seconds) will make it a heavy, walling wave. Best left for the crew with guns.
A quick note on the water: it’s sitting at 63°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year. Not a game changer, but nice.
So, to wrap it up: the first week is a grind. The real highlight is the morning of Friday the 17th. After that, the 20th and 21st are for experts only. Don’t hold your breath for the rest.
Rusty.
