Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, let's run through this Duckpool Bay forecast. It's a grim one, fellas. For the next week and a half, it's going to be a whole lot of looking at flat, bumpy water.
Friday the 3rd of July kicks off with a bit of a 4ft swell from the west, but the wind is onshore and sideshore, ruining it. The water is running much warmer than usual for this time of year at 63°F, a solid 4°F above average, but that's the only spark in the data. The combined wave energy is only moderate at around 290. From there, it's a long slide into the doldrums. Saturday the 4th is smaller with onshore wind, and by Sunday the 5th you're looking at knee-high slop.
We do get a small window on Thursday morning the 9th of July. The wind goes completely glassy, but the swell is a tiny 2ft from the west. The energy is weak, only 48. It's "surfable" only if you're desperate for a clean crumbler. Friday the 10th of July offers a similar setup – a glassy afternoon and a light offshore in the morning, but still the same puny 2ft swell.
Hang in there for Tuesday the 14th of July. That's the one day that looks genuinely good. A new 3ft swell from the west arrives with a proper 11-second period. The wind is offshore from the east at 16 mph. The wave energy jumps to a moderate 175. This should produce clean, lined-up waves. That's your target. The following morning, the 15th, is also worth a look.
The end of the run on Saturday the 18th of July throws a curveball. We get a much bigger swell – 6ft to 8ft from the west-southwest. The combined energy is massive at 904 – that’s a lot of power! But the wind is sideshore and onshore, which will make a messy, choppy mess of it. That size is way too big for beginners, and with the wind, it's a full-on expert session, and not a clean one at that.
For the most part, leave the board in the car. The only true standouts are the clean, glassy days on the 9th and 10th, and the more promising offshore day on the 14th of July. That 14th is your best chance for a proper surf. Everything else is just a blown-out, flat waiting game. For the windy, larger days, you'd have a better time on a kite.
