Table - best surf conditions forecast for Slade Bay/Boot Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
To be honest, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. We’re staring down a long, flat spell. The first recommendation isn’t until Friday the 11th of July, and even then it’s barely a ripple. There’s a big gap of quiet conditions before that.
For the first real chance of a surf, we look to Slade Bay/Boot Reef. Now, this spot is a reef break, fairly exposed to the swell, and it’s a consistent enough place. The water temperature is 68°, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year – a solid 9° warmer than average, so you won’t need the thickest rubber.
Friday the 11th of July afternoon shows a tiny 2 ft of swell out of the west, with a period of 9 seconds. The energy is weak (57). But the big win here is the wind: a light offshore from the NNW at just 6 mph. That’ll keep the surface glassy and clean. It’s not going to be a world-beater, but it’s the best we’ve got in this run. The wave comment calls it “poor surf conditions,” but a clean 2 ft is better than nothing.
Later on, Monday the 14th of July afternoon turns glassy with a slight air from the NNE and a 2 ft easterly windswell. Again, small, but the lack of chop makes it worth a look for a longboard or a foiler.
For the rest of the window, the swell stays tiny and the wind is mostly cross or onshore. There’s a pulse of 3 ft to 3 ft around the 19th and 20th of July, but the wind gets up to a moderate breeze, creating chop. Nothing here is going to get the heart racing. The combined energy never gets above 75 (weak), so it’s a real struggle.
Best bet? Get out there on Friday the 11th of July afternoon for a clean, glassy 2 ft on the offshore wind. It’s not a standout in any real sense, but with the wind like that, it’ll be the most pleasant session of the fortnight. For the more adventurous, that glassy Monday the 14th of July afternoon could be a fun, quiet session.
Stay tuned, forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
