Table - best surf conditions forecast for Croyde over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Croyde are looking pretty bleak. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands, so don’t go cancelling your plans just yet, but definitely don’t be rushing to wax up your board either.
The pattern starts off with a very small window of hope on Friday morning, the 10th of July. We’ve got a tiny 2 ft swell rolling in from the West, with a period of 9 seconds. The wind is a gentle offshore from the East, keeping things clean. The combined wave energy is weak, only 78, so it’s surfable, but very ordinary. If you’re desperate for a paddle, you’ll find a few crumbly little waves, but it’s nothing to write home about. That afternoon, the wind swings cross-shore, and it’s game over.
From Saturday the 11th right through to Friday the 24th of July, it’s a long, flat stretch. The swell drops to a pathetic 1 ft or 0.3 ft most days, with combined energy figures barely reaching double digits. Even when the wind is offshore, like on Saturday morning the 11th with a fresh 19 mph Easterly, the swell is just too small to do anything with. The only thing that’s consistent is the lack of waves. Honestly, if you’re looking to get wet, you’d be better off swimming.
The only glimmer of hope, and I mean a tiny glimmer, comes at the very end of the forecast on Saturday the 25th of July. We see a slight bump in the swell, with 3 ft from the West, period of 6 seconds. The combined energy creeps up to 99, still weak. But the wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the southwest, making it choppy. It’s still rated as poor surf conditions. The setup is so marginal for a proper paddle, that if you’re a kite surfer, this might look more interesting than for a traditional surfer.
So, the honest truth? There are no standouts here. Not a single good option in the 16-day window. The breaks are very consistent in their inconsistency of having no surf. It’s a tough run, but forecasts can change. For now, keep the board in the car and wait for the next system.
Rusty.
