Alright, grab your board, it's Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Croyde’s got cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a tough spell to start. We’re looking at a long, drawn-out run of pretty average conditions. From Saturday the 4th, right through to Thursday the 10th, it’s just a grind of poor surf. You’ve got a consistent onshore wind from the west, blowing straight into the face of the swell, making for lumpy, choppy, messy conditions. The wave heights are tiny too, mostly hovering around 2ft or so, and the energy in the water is really weak. It's not worth paddling out for.
Finally, on Friday morning the 10th, we see a shift. The wind swings around to the ENE, coming offshore, and that cleans things right up. The swell bumps up just a touch to 2ft from the west. It’s still not big, but for the first time in a week, the waves will have some shape to them. That being said, the overall wave comment is just "surfable but very ordinary." So, it’s an improvement, but still not a standout.
The following week stays pretty flat and uninspiring. Saturday the 11th has that offshore wind again in the morning, but the swell is small at 2ft from the west. By Tuesday the 14th, we get a bit of a kick in swell energy (51) and a 1ft west swell with the wind going offshore again in the morning, but it’s still nothing to write home about. The rest of the period just fizzles out into tiny waves with onshores or cross-shore winds.
There’s no real standout session in this 16-day window. The best of a bad bunch is definitely Friday morning, July 10th. The wind is offshore from the ENE at 16 mph, the waves are a clean 2ft from the west. It ain’t gonna be pumping, but if you’re desperate for a slide, that's the cleanest window. The water temp at the start of the period is 62°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so you won't need a thick suit just yet. Because the swell is so small and the quality is so poor for most of it, the breaks won't be crowded, so you'll have plenty of room.
Just a heads up: there's a massive 19-second period swell showing on Monday the 13th, but it's only 0.3ft. That’s a tease, not a wave. Don’t fall for it.
Alright, that's the ugly truth. Get ready for a lot of flat, blown-out days. The forecasts can always change, but as it stands, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
