Table - best surf conditions forecast for Croyde over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a proper look at what’s shaping up for Croyde over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I’ve got to be straight with you – this is a tough spell. The forecast is pretty grim for a solid week, with nothing really worth paddling out for. The first real chance of a wave doesn’t come until Thursday morning, the 9th of July, and even then it’s a bit of a letdown. We’ve got a tiny 2 ft swell coming from the west with a 10-second period, and the combined energy is a weak 45. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a staggering 4° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a proper anomaly. But the wind is glassy, coming light from the NNW, so the surface will be clean. It’s surfable, but only just.
The outlook doesn’t get much better for a while. Friday morning, the 10th of July, shows a slight bump with a 2 ft west swell, and we get a clean offshore breeze from the ENE. That’s your best window in this first week. The energy is still low at 78, but with a clean face and a bit of shape, you might get a few fun little ones. Friday afternoon gets choppy, and from Saturday through to the following Wednesday, it’s a desert. The swell drops to 0.3 ft, and although the winds stay offshore, it’s just too weak to push anything rideable. The combined energy numbers are in the teens and twenties – that’s barely a ripple.
We finally see a tiny pulse return on the 15th of July, with 1 ft from the west, but the wind goes onshore in the afternoon, so it’s short-lived. The rest of that week and into the next is a mix of tiny swell and cross-shore or cross-onshore winds. The 22nd of July morning shows a bit of hope with a 2 ft west swell and a light cross-onshore breeze, but the energy is still very weak at 74. The 23rd of July has a similar story, with 3 ft from the WSW in the morning, but the wind is cross-onshore again, making it choppy.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a surf, Friday morning the 10th of July is the standout. It’s not big, it’s not powerful, but it’s the cleanest of a bad bunch. The 2 ft west swell with that offshore ENE wind will give you a smooth, clean surface. Don’t expect much push, but it’s the only time in this 16-day window that the conditions line up even half-decently. The rest of the time, it’s either flat, blown out, or both.
This is a proper dry spell, lads. Hang in there, forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
