Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk straight about what we’ve got coming.

Look, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – the next couple of weeks at Croyde are looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long, dry spell of flatness ahead. The first real surf we see isn’t until late in the window, and even then it’s not exactly going to set the world on fire. There’s a big gap of nothing from now all the way until the 20th of July. From the 20th onwards we might get a pulse of energy, but the conditions are going to fight us every step of the way.

Let’s break it down. The first half of the run is a total write-off. Saturday the 11th has a tiny 2 ft swell from the west with only 43 units of energy – that’s weak, weak stuff. The wind is offshore from the east at 15 mph on the morning, which would be clean, but there’s just no size to work with. It’s a knee-high dribble. The rest of the first week and into the second is the same story: swell heights never topping 1 ft, periods all over the place, and wave energy in the teens and twenties. It’s basically a lake out there.

We finally see a bit of life around Monday the 20th of July. The swell tries to pick up to 3 ft from the northwest, with weak energy (29 units). But the wind is cross-onshore from the SSW at 15 mph, so it’s going to be choppy and messy. That trend continues through Tuesday and Wednesday, with the swell bumping up to about 4 ft on Wednesday the 22nd, pushing the combined energy up to 85. That’s something, for sure. But the wind is onshore from the west at 18 mph, so it’s going to be blown out. For a beach break like Croyde, with that much onshore wind, honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.

The good news? The water temperature is sitting pretty much bang on average for the time of year. No weird anomalies – just standard summer warmth.

So, the real standout? There isn’t one, not really. If you’re desperate, the morning of Wednesday the 22nd of July is your best bet, with that 4 ft swell. But even that’s a long-shot call, and the onshore wind is a killer. It’s going to be lumpy, bumpy, and a real battle. For the rest of the window? Honestly, save your energy.

Bottom line: it’s quiet. But it won’t stay this way forever.

Rusty.
