Table - best surf conditions forecast for Croyde over the next 16 days.
Well, folks, Rusty here. Let me tell you, it’s a grim stretch ahead for Croyde. The data is showing a proper flat spell, and it's going to be a long one. There’s a big gap of nearly two weeks with hardly a wave to get excited about, starting right now.
We’re looking at Wednesday the 8th of July right through to the 22nd, with nothing but tiny, weak energy. On the morning of Thursday the 9th, there's a brief moment of hope – a glassy, clean 2ft swell from the west, but it’s so small and ordinary that it’s barely worth the wettie. The combined wave energy is pitiful, sitting at just 45 (weak energy). The water’s a touch warmer than average for this time of year at 63°F, but that’s about the only positive.
We get a few mornings with clean, offshore winds – Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th both have an easterly breeze and a little 2ft to 2ft west swell, but the period is a short 8 to 9 seconds, so there’s no push or shape. The energy readings hover around 78 to 86 (still weak), and it’s just not going to produce anything you’d want to paddle out for.
Then from Sunday the 12th onward, it properly dies. The swell drops to 0.3ft, with long-period (16 to 19 seconds) groundswell from the southwest, but it’s all show and no go. You’ll be bobbing around on a lake. The wind is hard offshore – a strong breeze on the 13th and 14th – which just makes it impossible to even get into a wave. The energy figures are as low as 16 to 31 (weak energy). It’s a kite-surfing wind, not a surf wind.
There is one notable blip on the radar. On Thursday the 23rd of July, the combined energy suddenly jumps to 302 and then 636 (moderate to strong wave energy), with a 6ft to 8ft swell from the west-southwest. But before you get your hopes up, Gregory, the wind is a strong cross-onshore, smashing it to pieces. The period is a short 7 to 8 seconds, so it’ll be a messy, lumpy, choppy mess. That’s one for the experts only, and even then, it’s just poor conditions.
So, there’s no standout session here. No golden window. The best you can say is that on Thursday the 9th morning, if you’re desperate and just want to sit on a board in the sun, you’ll have glassy conditions, but don’t expect to catch anything. For the rest, you’re better off checking the forecast in a week’s time. You never know, things can change.
Rusty.
