Table - best surf conditions forecast for Croyde over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a bit of a tough one to start. We're looking at a long, dry spell with hardly any surf to speak of. For the first week and a half, the energy is just not there. We're talking about a combined swell energy that's barely reaching double digits (maxing out at around 40) – that's weak, flat stuff. The swell heights are hovering around 0.3ft to 1.0ft, and while the wind is often offshore or clean, there's just nothing to ride. It's a frustrating stretch of clean, flat water.
This lull stretches all the way from the start of the forecast through to the 26th of July. It's a proper blank run, and unfortunately, that's just how it goes sometimes in this area when the swell windows don't line up.
Now, hold on to your boards, because there is a flicker of life right at the very end. On Monday morning, the 27th of July, things finally change. A new swell pushes in with a height of 6ft, coming from the West-Southwest, and the combined swell energy jumps to a solid 762 – that's moderate wave energy, a real step up from the flatness. This is a long-period swell at 9 seconds, which will bring some decent shape.
But here's the rub: the wind is a gentle cross-onshore breeze from the West-Northwest, which is going to make it a bit choppy at Croyde. It's a beach break, so that onshore wind is going to mess with the surface. For a surfer, it's not ideal, but it's the only real game in town. Given the wind and the beach break setup, this window might actually be more interesting for the kite crew than for paddle surfing. It's a marginal forecast, but after two weeks of nothing, you take what you can get.
That's the long and short of it. The 27th of July is the only standout, but it's a far cry from perfect.
Rusty.
