Table - best surf conditions forecast for Croyde over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next few weeks.
Honestly, I’ve got to be straight with you – this is a grim run for Croyde. The whole 16-day window is a struggle, with no real standouts and plenty of days where you’re better off doing something else. The first decent look doesn’t even come around until Friday the 10th, and even then it’s small.
The water is sitting at 63°F right now, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least the rubber won’t feel as thick.
Let’s run through it. Wednesday the 8th is a write-off: tiny 2ft swell from the west with a gusty onshore wind. Thursday the 9th morning goes glassy, but the swell is still only 2ft and weak – combined energy of just 45 (moderate energy). It’s surfable but ordinary.
Friday the 10th morning is the best of a bad bunch. We’ve got a 2ft west swell, period around 9 seconds, and a clean offshore wind from the ENE. The combined energy is 78 (weak to moderate energy). It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s the only time in the whole run with a clean offshore and a pulse of swell. If you’re desperate, that’s your window.
After that, it’s a long, painful drop. Saturday the 11th stays tiny, and from Sunday the 12th right through to the end of the third week, we’re looking at ankle-snappers with long-period SW groundswells that pump in at 0.3ft to 1.0ft. Those long-period swells (16-19 seconds) are all show and no go for a beach break like Croyde – they just close out and slide right through. The wind is consistently offshore and strong, sometimes 28 mph, which is great for a clean face but impossible to paddle into when there’s nothing to paddle into. The combined energy readings are stuck in the teens and twenties (weak), telling you everything.
The last few days of the run, from the 20th, see a slight bump in size from the NNW, but it’s short-period windswell (4 seconds) with onshore or cross-onshore winds, and the energy is still weak (well under 50). Not worth suiting up for.
Honestly, if you’ve got a kitesurfing rig, some of those breezy afternoons with 3ft of messy windswell might look half-interesting. For a surfboard? There’s nothing here. This is a flat spell, plain and simple. Sometimes it happens. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d say save your wax.
Rusty.
