Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what Croyde’s got cookin’ for us over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a bit of a slow burner. We’re lookin’ at a long stretch of small, poor conditions to start, but there is some serious light at the end of the tunnel if you’re patient.
Right now and through the first week of July, it’s pretty flat out there. We’ve got tiny 1ft to 2ft swells, mostly from the west, with periods around 8-10 seconds. The energy is weak (between 29 and 61). The wind’s all over the place, mostly onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. Wednesday the 8th has a moment of glassy conditions, but the swell’s still too small to do anything with. The water temp’s sitting at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that won’t be much comfort when there’s nothing to ride. Honestly, it’s a write-off for the first several days.
Now, Friday the 10th is where we see the first little flicker of hope. The wind swings offshore from the east, cleaning things right up. The swell is still tiny at 2ft, but that clean, offshore texture will make the most of it. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary – a log or a foamy might get you a few little dribblers.
But then... hold onto your board shorts for the second week. Around Thursday the 16th, the swell starts to show some life, and we get a pulse of moderate energy (104 then 144). It’s a short-period, junky 4ft to 4ft from the southwest at first, but the real deal is comin’.
The standout window, the one you’ve been waiting for, kicks off Saturday the 18th of July. Saturday morning sees a 6ft WSW swell, with the energy skyrocketing to 616. The wind is light and cross-on from the northwest, so it’s not perfect, but that’s a solid, punchy beach break building. But Sunday morning the 19th – that’s my pick if you’re experienced and want some power. We’ve got a 8ft swell from the west, a gentle offshore breeze from the east, and the energy is pumping at 795. That’s a proper, clean, powerful wave for Croyde. It’s going to be a bit much for beginners over 5ft, and at 8ft, it’s expert territory, but for those of you who can handle it, that is the session to circle on the calendar. The offshore wind will groom it beautifully into some long, fast walls.
After that, it stays chunky and clean through Tuesday the 21st. Monday the 20th is a big 8ft swell (796 energy) but with a cross-shore wind in the afternoon, so keep an eye on the morning session. Tuesday the 21st morning looks just as good with that 8ft and gentle offshore wind again. The last week is all about those bigger, cleaner days, so get ready.
Stay patient, the waiting is worth it.
Rusty.
