Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, boys and girls, Rusty here. Let's be honest, the next couple of weeks at Croyde are looking grim. If you’re hanging for a proper surf, you’ll be doing a lot of waiting.
The water’s sitting at around 62°F, which is a touch warmer than average for the season, but that’s about the only good news.
We kick off on Thursday, July 2nd with some size – a 6ft swell from the west, but it's a short-period wind swell, and the wind is screaming from the NW at 16 mph, making it a choppy cross-on mess. The combined swell energy is moderate, but the conditions are poor. Even as the swell drops to 5ft in the afternoon, that onshore wind is still wrecking the surface.
Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th are a write-off. The waves drop to 2ft to 4ft with onshore winds and poor conditions. Don't bother.
From Sunday the 5th through Thursday the 9th, we hit a proper flat spell. Swells are down to 1ft to 2ft, and the combined energy is weak. The wind does go offshore from the east on the 9th, which would be clean, but there’s no wave to ride.
The first hint of anything happens on Friday, July 10th. Late in the day we get a 3ft pulse from the NNW, but the period is a terrible 4 seconds of wind chop. The wind is a fresh offshore at 13 mph, keeping the surface clean, but the wave quality is ordinary. The combined energy is weak. It’s surfable, but barely.
After that, it’s back to a dead flat pattern from Saturday the 11th right through to Friday the 17th. We’re talking waves of 0.3ft to 1.0ft, with combined energy scores in the low teens and single digits. The wind goes offshore again on the 16th, but with 0.3ft on offer, you’re better off on the beach.
There is not one standout session in this entire 16-day outlook. It’s a brutal run. The long blank spell from the 5th to the 17th is pretty normal for Croyde when the jetstream isn't playing ball. Keep checking the charts, mate.
Rusty.
