Table - best surf conditions forecast for Croyde over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough one. Looking at the whole 16-day window for Croyde, the honest truth is there’s nothing here that’s worth paddling out for. The data shows a long, drawn-out run of "poor surf conditions" with zero scores to recommend. It’s a bleak stretch.
We start off on Saturday, July 11th, with tiny 2ft swell from the west, period a short 8 seconds. The wind is offshore from the east at 16 mph, so it’s clean, but there’s just no wave energy (42). You’d be floating around with nothing to ride. That same story repeats through Sunday morning, July 12th, with a 0.3ft swell and a 16-second period, but it’s so small you can’t do anything with it. The offshore wind is strong (25 mph) from the east, making it impossible to paddle into. The water temperature is 64°F, which is 4°F warmer than normal for this time of year, so it’s a warm bath out there, but it’s not helping the surf.
The entire first week is a dead zone. Day after day, we see knee-high or smaller waves with energy readings below 50. The wind is often offshore, but the swell just isn’t there. By Tuesday, July 14th, we get a slight bump to 1.0ft, but it’s still not enough to get on a wave. The pattern holds through the 15th, 16th, and 17th, with weak west swells and onshore winds starting to creep in, bringing rain and messy conditions.
Finally, around Tuesday, July 21st, the swell picks up a bit to 5ft from the west, with moderate wave energy (161). But the wind is a strong cross-onshore from the southwest at 25 mph, and the period is a short 6 seconds. It’s messy, lumpy, and not worth the drive. By Thursday, July 23rd, the swell is 5ft from the west, period 8 seconds, and the energy is getting up there (299). But again, the wind is onshore from the west-northwest, so it’s just a choppy, wind-blown mess.
The biggest swell of the window hits on Saturday, July 25th, with a massive 10ft west swell, very strong energy (1247), and a period of 8 seconds. That’s a lot of water moving, but it’s onshore wind from the west at 16 mph. Unless you’re a seasoned pro looking for a battle, this is a no-go for most. The wave comment says "poor surf conditions" across the board, and I see no reason to argue.
There is simply no standout session here. The whole forecast is a gap of poor options. For this area, it’s one of those blank runs that happens. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a flat, windy, or messy outlook. Save your wax for another week.
Rusty.
