Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Falmouth - Swanpool.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet start. The next week or so is going to be a real test of patience. We’ve got a long stretch of tiny, poor surf through the first few days, with hardly any energy to speak of. The wind does swing around favourably at times – even some glassy conditions on the morning of Tuesday, July 7th – but with swell heights stuck at 0.3ft and combined energy barely hitting double digits (4 to 12), there’s just nothing for a paddle. This low-energy run lasts right through to the morning of Thursday, July 9th.
Things start to flicker to life from Friday, July 10th afternoon. We see a 3ft swell from the east (period 6 seconds) and energy climbs to 80 – still weak, but it’s something. The wind turns cross-off from the NNE, keeping it clean. It’s not a standout by any stretch, but if you’re desperate for a wetsuit rinse, that afternoon window is your best early look.
Saturday, July 11th offers a slightly bigger 4ft east swell (6 second period) on the afternoon, with a clean cross-off breeze. The combined energy is up to 142 (moderate). It’s surfable, but very ordinary.
Now, the real kicker – and the only true standout in this whole forecast – arrives on Sunday, July 12th. The morning brings a solid 7ft east swell with a 7-second period. Combined energy jumps to a strong 480. The catch? The wind is a fresh cross-onshore from the ENE, gusting 22 mph, making it lumpy and messy. Even the afternoon stays cross-onshore. This is solid, powerful beach-break energy, but the wind is going to rip it to shreds. Honestly, at that size with that much onshore wind, it’s looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. For the brave few, the afternoon drops a touch to 6ft (energy 352), but still messy.
After that spike, the surf stays in the 5ft to 8ft range from Sunday, July 12th right through to Thursday, July 16th. All of it is from the east with a short period (6 to 7 seconds), and consistently plagued by cross-onshore winds. The energy values are strong (up to 659 on the morning of Tuesday, July 14th), but the quality is poor across the board. This is expert-level size, but without clean conditions, it’s a frustrating watch.
We then fade back into tiny surf from Friday, July 17th onwards, with no further recommendations for the rest of the outlook.
The call: The one true standout for a wave is the morning of Sunday, July 12th, if you can handle big, messy, onshore conditions. For clean surf, your best bet is that small but tidy window on the afternoon of Friday, July 10th. Water temperature is 63°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for early July.
Keep an eye on it – forecasts change.
