The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Falmouth – Swanpool has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
First up, the long and the short of it: we are looking at a proper dry spell to kick things off. There is basically nothing worth paddling out for from now, right through until the end of August. It’s a tough stretch of flat, weak conditions that just won’t get going. The water temp is sitting at a nice 66°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a small mercy.
We’re looking at a gap of nearly two weeks of poor surf. A few days around the 24th and 25th of August see some small swell pulses, but the wind is all wrong—onshore and lumpy. Not worth the drive. The only thing remotely interesting comes on Saturday the 30th of August and Sunday the 31st, but those morning windows are blown out or flat.
Now, hang in there, because around the corner things might just change. On Tuesday the 1st of September, we finally see some proper energy. The morning has a solid 7ft swell from the WSW, with a period of 8 seconds. That’s a moderate energy pulse coming through (559). The afternoon even bumps up a touch to 8ft (733). This is a size that will be too much for beginners, and the cross-off wind keeps things looking clean. This is your standout window – the only real chance of a wave in the whole 16-day run. It’s still over a week away, so keep an eye on it, but it looks promising.
After that little spike, it fades back to tiny, blown-out slop by the 2nd of September with a strong breeze ruining things. Thursday the 3rd of September morning is glassy but flat, and the afternoon throws up a 5ft ESE groundswell (207), but the period is short and the conditions just aren’t there.
So, if you are desperate, mark your calendar for the 1st of September. That’s the only shot of the month. No links, no guesses – just the raw truth from the charts. Stay patient.
Rusty.
