Table - best surf conditions forecast for Falmouth - Swanpool over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. I’ve had a good look at the charts for the next couple of weeks and, well, I’ll be straight with you – it’s a bit of a tough stretch for the Falmouth area. We’ve got a real slow start, and honestly, the surf is pretty much non-existent for the first week and a half.

Look, we’re looking at a long, dry spell. From now until about the 15th of July, there’s just nothing doing. The wind is a problem, mostly blowing straight across the swell from the east, and it’s just making a mess of things. On Saturday the 11th, the sea is a lumpy, choppy 5ft of wind swell, but it's junk. It gets worse from there. By Sunday the 12th, we’re looking at a 8ft to 8ft crumbly mess with a 22 mph cross-on breeze. That’s not surfable, that’s just a washing machine. The energy is high (515-686), but it’s all raw, ugly power. Monday the 13th is even worse, with a 12ft beast and a 28 mph cross-on wind. That’s for experts only, if anyone, and even then, it’s a messy, windy battle. The combined energy is a powerful 1761, but with that wind, it’s a hard pass. This keeps up through Tuesday the 14th, still big and lumpy. Not a single wave with a score above zero.

Then, we finally get a tiny window. Wednesday afternoon the 15th, the wind drops to glassy. Absolutely zero wind. The swell is a tiny 3ft at 6 seconds, and the energy is weak (90). The report says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” and that’s about right. It's small, weak, and the period is short, so don't expect much push. It’s really the only thing that’s even close to rideable in the whole outlook.

After that, it’s back to tiny, weak ripples. Thursday the 16th morning has a whisper of a 2ft wave with a light offshore wind, but the energy is pitiful (81). That’s a longboard or a foamie day, if you’re desperate. And then from Friday the 17th all the way through to Sunday the 26th of July, we’re talking about waves that are 0.3ft to 1ft. The combined energy is down in the single or low double digits (5 to 29). There’s just no swell.

So, the best on offer is that Wednesday the 15th afternoon at Falmouth - Swanpool. It’s a beginner spot, fairly consistent, and on that afternoon, it will be glassy clean. But the swell is tiny, weak, and short period. It’s a “get your feet wet” session, not a day to write home about. The water temperature is a warm 65°, which is a solid 4° warmer than usual – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least it’ll be pleasant sitting out there waiting for the ankle-biters.

Overall, this is a blank run. A very long one. The spots are fairly consistent, but the weather and swell just aren't cooperating. It’s one of those stretches where the forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, I’d be oiling up the surfboard rather than waxing it.

Rusty.
