Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let me put this into the feet and miles language for you. I’m lookin’ at this forecast and my gut’s a little heavy. We’ve got a long, long stretch ahead where the ocean just isn’t giving us anything.
We’re starting off with Falmouth – Swanpool. Right now, and for most of the next sixteen days, the swell is tiny – we’re talking just 0.3ft to maybe 1ft at best. The water temp is sitting at 63°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but with hardly any wave energy (combined energy values are mostly single digits – ranging from 2 to 35), it’s basically a pond. The first few days, from Saturday the 4th through to Wednesday the 8th, are ruled by weak southerly or south-west swells with a period around 12 to 16 seconds, but it’s all long-period energy that just doesn’t have any height behind it. Off shore and light winds keep things looking pretty, but there’s nothing to ride.
We then hit a spell from Thursday the 9th through Friday the 10th where a little bump of east swell tries to show up. On the Thursday, we see 3ft to 4ft on the east wind, but it’s a short, messy 4 to 5 second period, and the wind is hammering out of the east at 19 mph, a fresh onshore. That’ll be lumpy, choppy, and just not worth paddling for. The energy builds a bit (up to 187 on Friday morning), but by Friday afternoon the swell is already dropping, and it’s still cross-on shore. This isn’t the kind of surf you want to be in; it feels more like a day for a strong breeze and a kite than a paddle board.
From Saturday the 11th all the way through the end of the forecast on Sunday the 19th, we’re right back to peanuts. Tiny 0.3ft to 2ft swells, a mix of west, south, and east wind swells, but mostly with no punch. Wind does go clean, offshore, and even glassy on a few mornings (like Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th), but the combined energy stays weak, barely reaching a two-digit number. On Sunday the 19th afternoon, there’s literally no swell height recorded – it’s flat as a tack.
So, the honest truth? There isn’t a single standout session in this entire sixteen-day window. For an area like this, a blank spell happens, but it stings when it goes this long. The only faint glimmer might be Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th for experienced surfers who don’t mind bumpy, onshore east swell, but that’s a stretch. For most of us, it’s a time for a coffee on the beach and a walk.
Keep the faith – it won’t be poor forever.
Rusty.
