Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s brewing in the water. Honestly, it’s a long, slow grind for the next week and a half. The first time you’ll even see a wave worth paddling for is about 8 days out, so you might as well find a hobby for now.
From July 4th morning through July 11th morning, it’s practically a lake. Swell heights are stuck at 0.3ft to 1ft with combined energy readings that are barely a whisper—like 5 or 10 (super weak). Even with some glassy or offshore winds early on, there’s just nothing to ride. Water temp at Falmouth - Swanpool is about 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for early July—nothing to complain about, but it won’t help you catch a wave.
Saturday July 11th afternoon, we get a little bump: 4ft from the east, but it’s a short-period 6-second windswell. The energy’s still weak at 91, and while the wind is cross-offshore, the quality is poor. Not worth the drive.
Then things start to move. Sunday July 12th morning through Monday July 13th morning, the east swell builds to 5ft to 6ft, and the combined energy climbs into the moderate range (234 to 327). That’s a real push of water. But the problem is the direction—east swell coming into a spot that prefers southwest swell. You’ve got cross-on winds from the east at 6–9 mph, which mess up the face. At 6ft, it’s getting a bit big for beginners, but the 6-second period makes it lumpy and short. For a beach break like this, honestly, that combo of onshore wind and short-period swell is more interesting for kiteboarding than paddle surfing.
Tuesday July 14th afternoon brings a drop to 5ft, but the wind goes glassy (WNW 3 mph). The energy is still moderate at 182. It’s surfable, but very ordinary—just not clean enough to call it good.
The best bet, and it’s late in the game, comes Thursday July 16th morning through Friday July 17th morning. Swell swings southwest at 4ft to 5ft with a 6–7 second period, and the combined energy hits 167 to 234—solid moderate. Finally, the swell direction matches up with Falmouth - Swanpool’s optimum (SW). The wind is offshore from the NW at 12–19 mph, keeping the faces clean. At 5ft, it’s manageable for most but pushing the limit for beginners. The short period means the waves will be a bit wobbly, but the offshore wind and right direction will give you some punchy, rideable lines. This is the one window in the whole 16-day outlook.
So, bottom line: lots of flat, then a late-week chance. Mark your calendar for Thursday July 16th morning—that’s your best shot, but don’t bet the farm on it this far out.
Rusty.
