The Lowdown
Alright, grab a cuppa and listen up. Rusty here, checking the charts for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a tough watch. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a wipeout for Falmouth - Swanpool. We're looking at a long, flat spell with hardly any proper swell and a whole lot of wind to mess things up.
The water is sitting at 65.5°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that's about the only silver lining.
Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st are a write-off – tiny 0.7ft swells with a weak energy reading of just 20-27, and the wind is all over the shop. Saturday the 22nd sees a weird, short-period 2.6ft easterly swell, but it's cross-on and choppy. Not worth getting wet for.
Sunday and Monday? More of the same – tiny, weak swells and cross-onshore winds. By Monday the 24th, we get a bit more oomph with a 4.9ft easterly swell (energy around 174), but the wind is a fresh cross-onshore, making it lumpy. It gets worse in the afternoon with a 6.9ft easterly swell (energy at 417), but it's messy and cross-on. That's some serious energy, but it's all wrong for us – it's a beach break setup, so that onshore wind is just going to turn it into a washing machine. Honestly, with that much wind and swell, it looks more interesting for the kite surfers than for paddle surfing.
The rest of the week is a blur of small, onshore slop. The only slight glimmer comes on Friday the 28th of August, with a 9.8ft WSW swell (a big energy reading of 1113!), and a cross-offshore wind, which cleans it up. But it's a "marginal" call, meaning it's a gamble. That's a big swell for a beginner spot, so only for the experts. A couple of days later, on Monday the 31st of August, we get a surfable 2.6ft SSW swell with a clean offshore wind, but it's still a very ordinary setup.
The first week of September is just as flat. Tiny 0.7ft swells and glassy conditions, but no power to push a wave. The period is long, around 14-15 seconds, but with no height, it's just a dream.
So, in short, keep your board in the car for a while. There's nothing good to chase here. Fingers crossed the forecasts change, because it's a long, dry, flat run.
