Alright, let’s take a look at what we’ve got on offer for the Falmouth area.

Honestly, for the next 16 days, it’s a proper frustrating run for Falmouth - Swanpool. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a heap of energy in the water at times, but the wind just isn’t playing ball at all. The whole window is basically a write-off for decent paddle surfing, with only a couple of brief windows that might be worth a look if you’re desperate to get wet.

The water temp is running at 63°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – nice for the skin, at least.

Let’s start from the beginning. Thursday morning (9th July) there’s a tiny 0.3 ft swell coming from the south with a really long period of 12 seconds, but it’s combined energy is just 3 (weak). There’s a light cross breeze on it, so nothing doing. That afternoon goes glassy with a light northerly, but still only 0.3 ft – flat as a pancake.

Friday (10th July) sees the swell try to build slightly, but a cross-onshore wind picks up to 9 mph then 12 mph, making it choppy. Height gets to 3 ft by afternoon but the period drops to a shocking 4 seconds. Combined energy is only 31 (weak), so it’s just a messy, weak windswell.

Saturday (11th July) the swell gets a bit more push, hitting 4 ft to 5 ft from the east, with combined energy climbing into the moderate range (114 to 180). But that east wind is up at 16 mph and cross-onshore, so it’s all lumpy, choppy, and poor.

Sunday (12th July) the swell jumps to 7 ft in the morning and 8 ft in the afternoon, combined energy hits 438 to 571 (moderate). The wind, though, is fresh and cross-onshore at 19 to 22 mph. The water gets lumpy and messy – honestly, that setup looks way more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.

Monday (13th July) is the biggest of the run – 12 ft in the morning from the east, with a massive combined energy of 1570 (very strong). But it’s accompanied by a strong cross-onshore breeze of 25 mph. That’s big, powerful, and messy. Only for absolute experts with a death wish, and even then, the quality is shot. The afternoon drops to 8 ft but still with that strong cross-onshore wind.

The rest of that week through to Wednesday the 15th is just a lot of east swell with onshore winds, keeping things poor. On Wednesday afternoon (15th July) we finally get a change – a moderate offshore wind from the WNW at 12 mph, with the swell down to 4 ft from the east, period 6 seconds, combined energy 176. The wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s clean, but the swell is small and weak. That’s about the closest thing to a standout in this whole forecast, but it’s nothing to write home about.

After that, through the second week, it’s tiny. From Thursday 16th July right through to the end of the forecast period on Thursday 24th July, the swell drops to under 3 ft, mostly 0.3 ft to 3 ft, with weak energy (all under 100). The wind mostly stays clean or offshore from the north or northwest, but there’s simply no swell to work with. The only faint glimmer is Friday morning 17th July: 3 ft from the SSW with a period of 7 seconds, combined energy 75, and a light offshore wind from the NW. It’s clean but tiny – again, just barely surfable.

So, to be blunt, there are no true standouts here. The whole 16-day period is a bust. The best you’ll get is a couple of afternoon or morning windows with clean conditions and very small, weak swell. For this area, it’s a proper blank run, but forecasts can change.

Keep your eye on Wednesday 15th July and maybe Friday 17th July for a potentially clean but very small session. Otherwise, it’s time to find a hobby onshore.

Rusty.
