Table - best surf conditions forecast for Falmouth - Swanpool over the next 16 days.
Alright, let's talk Falmouth – Swanpool. It’s a grim outlook to be honest. For the first week, we get some solid size – 8ft to nearly 12ft of easterly wind-swell from the 12th to the 14th of July, with wave energy readings in the hundreds (607, 1783 even). But the wind is a solid 19-28 mph cross-on from the east. It’s just blown out and lumpy. Not worth paddling out.
After that, the swell drops off a cliff. By the 15th and 16th of July, we’re looking at 2-3ft waves, and the energy is down to double digits. On the morning of the 16th, the wind goes glassy and the swell is from the SW, which is the right direction, but the wave height is a tiny 2ft with a 7-second period. It’s rideable, but it’s a knee-high kind of session.
Then the tap turns off completely. From the 17th of July right until the 26th, it’s flat or nearly flat. There’s a day here and there with clean conditions and offshore breezes, but the swell height is often measured in inches, and the wave energy is in the single digits. The 21st of July afternoon gives a brief flicker of life with a 4ft easterly swell, but it’s weak and just “clean,” not good.
The only real chance in this whole 16-day window comes on the morning of Sunday the 26th of July. We get a jump to 8ft from the WSW, with an 8-second period and a combined energy of 740. The wind is a 19 mph cross-off, so it should be clean. That’s the pick of the bunch by a long shot. It’s got enough size to get you out of your seat, but it’s not a monster. The water temp is about 65°F, which is much warmer than average for this time of year, so the wait for the good stuff won't be as cold. But the wait is long. That’s the score.
Rusty.
