The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the Falmouth-Swanpool area over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a pretty grim stretch for the most part. We're looking at a long gap of nothing worthwhile. The first real chance to even get a board wet comes around Thursday afternoon, the 16th of July. The water is sitting at 66°F which is a solid 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so that's a nice surprise if you do get in.
The swell is tiny, only about 3ft from the east, and the energy is weak (80). The wind is glassy though, dead calm, which is a major positive. It’ll be clean, but the waves are just ordinary. Expect crowds at Falmouth - Swanpool as it's often busy.
The next chance is a long way off. There's a bump in size on the 22nd of July, Wednesday afternoon, with 8ft east swell. But the period is only 7 seconds, so it's a weak, short-period windswell. The wind is cross-onshore, so it'll be a messy, lumpy 8ft. That's too big for beginners and only fun for the diehards on a longer board, but it's not going to be pretty. The energy is high (658), but it's all in the wrong conditions.
Then on the 23rd of July, Thursday afternoon, the wind goes glassy again with a 4ft east swell (185 energy). Again, very ordinary stuff but clean.
The only other note is much later, on the 28th of July, Tuesday afternoon. A 4ft south swell with an offshore wind from the NW (12 mph). The period is a tiny 5 seconds, so it's a messy, weak windswell. The energy is low (78). It's clean, but it's not going to be any good.
So, there's no standout. The best on offer is that glassy Thursday afternoon on the 16th of July for the absolute beginner, or the clean but tiny bump on the 23rd. For the rest of the 16 days, it's a lot of onshore junk and flat spells. It's a tough run for the area.
Rusty.
