The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what the ocean’s got lined up for us over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, so let’s cut through the noise.
The run starts off pretty flat and messy. For the first few days, we’ve got small, weak swell and a pesky cross-onshore wind. Nothing rideable, just a bit of a chop on the surface. This carries through the weekend and into the start of next week. The energy is weak, with combined swell energy values in the low hundreds on Monday morning (134), which is just not enough to get the hopes up.
Then, around Thursday the 27th, things start to get interesting. We’ve got a proper pulse of swell filling in, climbing to 12ft with a WSW direction. The wind is cross-offshore, and it’s looking clean. The combined energy jumps right up to 1900, which is strong. But here’s the catch: that size is just too much for Falmouth - Swanpool (Falmouth). The wave comment says it outright – it’s predicted to be too big for this break. It’s going to be a washing machine. Not the one for us.
After that, Thursday afternoon backs off a touch to 7ft, and there are a few more days of clean-ish but average conditions as we move into the end of August. There's a bit of a blank spell around the 30th, then more average surf to close out the month.
Now, here’s where things get properly interesting. It’s a long way out, but on the 3rd of September, we get another big pulse. We’re looking at 12ft of WSW swell again, with a long 11-second period, and the combined energy is huge – 3241. The wind is offshore, and the forecast is calling it favorable. Again, the caveat: it’s still potentially too big for Swanpool. We’ll have to see how it lines up.
The real standout, the one I’d circle on the calendar, is Friday the 4th of September. The swell holds at a solid 10ft from the WSW, but the wind swings around to the northwest and goes properly offshore. The energy is still strong (1923 and 2468), and the forecast is calling it “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” That’s the one. This is big, powerful, and clean. It’s going to be a proper session for those who know what they’re doing. It’ll be well overhead, so not one for the beginners, but for the rest of us, this is the pick of the whole window.
After that, the swell drops away to almost nothing as we head into the second week of September. The 5th and 6th are flat with just a long-period background swell that won’t do anything.
So, there you have it. A slow start, a couple of too-big pulses in between, but that window on the 4th of September is where it’s at. Keep an eye on that one.
Rusty out.
