The Lowdown
Right, let's have a look at what we've got for the next couple of weeks around Falmouth - Swanpool.
To be straight with you, this is a pretty grim run of forecasts. We’re looking at a long, dry spell of tiny, poor surf stretching right through the whole 16-day window. There’s hardly a ripple of consequence on the cards. It’s not that there are days with nothing; it’s that the days with something are so small it barely counts. The only real suggestion of swell comes early on, but it’s weak.
The first real blip is on the morning of Sunday the 19th of July. You’ve got a tiny 3 ft of swell bumping in from the ESE, but that’s paired with a fresh 19 mph cross-onshore wind from the same direction. It’s going to be lumpy and messy. Wave energy is a paltry 25 (weak). Not worth suiting up for.
The afternoon of Sunday the 19th is a slight improvement on the morning, with the wind dropping to a light breeze, but the swell is still tiny at 3 ft from the ESE with a short, weak period of 5 seconds. The combined energy is still low at 39 (weak). It’s a poor outlook.
After that, it’s a long, long wait. The only other window with any kind of shape comes almost a week later, on the afternoon of Thursday the 23rd of July. We get 3 ft from the East, but it’s a choppy 4-second period. The wind, however, goes glassy. For a brief moment, if you squint, the water will be like a mirror. But with a combined energy of just 30 (weak), don't expect any power. The morning of Friday the 24th of July is similar: a tiny 2 ft from the East with a light offshore breeze, so it’ll be clean, but again, no real push.
After that Friday afternoon, the charts go completely flat. We’re looking at a run of zero energy from the 21st of July through to the 2nd of August, with the odd tiny blip of 0.3 ft from the South. That's barely a ripple.
The water temperature is sitting at 66°F, which is labelled as much warmer than normal for this time of year. A nice thought, but with nothing to surf, it doesn't help.
Honestly, for this stretch, your board is better off in the car or hanging in the shed. There just isn't any surf to write home about. Sometimes it goes like this. The forecasts can change, but right now, this is a total blank.
Rusty.
