Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what we've got on offer for Whitsand Bay and Tregantle. I'll be straight with you, it's a tough stretch ahead.
The overall pattern is pretty bleak for the next two weeks. We've got a massive run of tiny, weak swell and poor conditions that’s making for a real desert in the surf forecast. There's a gap from now until the middle of the month where there's nothing worth paddling out for. The tiny waves we do see are just not doing anything for us. It’s not until the 15th of July that we finally see a little bump of energy.
Right now, and for the next week and a half, it’s all small and weak. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 62°, but that's where the good news ends. For example, on Monday the 6th of July, there’s a 1.0ft swell from the west, but the cross-on wind is making a mess of it, and the combined energy is a measly 18. That's barely a ripple. It’s the same story through Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday – 0.7ft swells, glassy mornings but poor surf, and energy levels stuck in single digits. It’s heartbreaking to watch.
We finally start to see something on Tuesday the 15th of July. There’s a 3ft swell showing up in the afternoon from the southwest, but don't get too excited. The period is a very short 4 seconds, so it’s just lumpy, weak windswell. The combined energy is 32, which is still totally average. Then on Wednesday the 16th of July, we get one of the better looking windows. The morning shows a 2ft swell from the southwest, with a cross-offshore wind from the east at 9 mph keeping things clean. The combined energy jumps to 44, which is the highest we'll see. This is the standout window of the whole forecast. It's not huge, but it’s the most promising we’ve got. However, this is a beginner-plus spot that's inconsistent to begin with, and this little pulse is still small. By the afternoon, the wind swings onshore and the quality drops again.
After that, the energy fades back into the 20s and 30s for the rest of the run, with strong cross-offshore winds that clean the surface but don't make the tiny waves any better.
So, there's no sugar-coating it. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the cleanest little window is the morning of Thursday the 16th of July for a knee-high plus wave. But beyond that, it’s a long wait. This spot is exposed but inconsistent, and this forecast shows exactly why. A blank run like this is more typical for the area than a constant supply of swell. Forecasts can always change though, so keep an eye on it.
