Table - best surf conditions forecast for Whitsand Bay and Tregantle over the next 16 days.
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – we're looking at a pretty bleak stretch ahead for Whitsand Bay and Tregantle. The overall pattern is a long, flat run with barely a ripple to get excited about. There's a significant gap in surfable waves from now, starting with a flat spell, and it just doesn't let up.
Right from the Wednesday morning (8th July), it's tiny with a 0.7 ft swell from the west, period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a weak 11. The water's sitting at 63°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – a nice 3°F anomaly, so you'll be comfortable just floating around. The wind is glassy from the SSE at 3 mph, making the ocean look like a mirror, but there's just no push to surf.
Thursday (9th July) and Friday (10th July) are more of the same – waves staying under 1.0 ft, with energy dribbling along in the low 20s. The wind stays light and clean on some mornings, but the surf is just too weak. Even the longer period swells, like that 17-second one on Saturday (11th July) morning, only produce 0.3 ft waves with a weak 12 energy. That long period might be interesting at a point break, but here at a beach setup, it just means long waits for nothing.
We roll through the entire second week, and it's the same story. From the 13th to the 22nd of July, every report is "poor surf conditions" with wave heights stuck at 0.3 ft or 1.0 ft. The combined energy sometimes nudges up to 30 on the 19th (Sunday afternoon), but that's still weak. Winds are often strong – fresh breezes from the east and ENE hitting 22-25 mph – making for a choppy, blown-out mess that's only good for keeping the dust off the breaks. The first real sign of life doesn't appear until the Monday morning of the 20th of July, when the swell lifts to 2 ft from the west with a period of 10 seconds and energy climbs to 48. It's glassy with a 3 mph SSE wind, and the water's still that touch warmer than normal. For a beginner, that might be a paddle, but it's still poor surf conditions overall.
Honestly, there's no standout day here. Nothing gets close to good. The best on offer is probably that Monday (20th July) morning with the clean glass and the highest energy of the whole run, but even that's a stretch. For the rest of the 16 days, we're looking at a long, barren gap. The setup is so consistently flat and wind-affected that it's more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Don't hold your breath – sometimes it's like this, and forecasts can change. But for now, leave the boards in the van.
Rusty.
