Alright, this is Rusty. Let's break down what's coming for Tolcarne.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you – this 16-day window is a tough one for Tolcarne. The water is currently sitting at a balmy 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that's a nice bonus if you're getting in, but the waves themselves are going to keep you waiting.
The first week is a write-off. From Friday the 3rd right through to the morning of Wednesday the 8th, it's pretty much all poor surf conditions. The combined swell energy is weak to moderate, hanging around the 100-200 mark (340 down to 79), and the wind is almost constantly a cross or cross-onshore breeze, chopping everything up. You'll see small waves – around 2ft to 4ft – but with that wind, you're just fighting a messy, lumpy surface.
Then, we finally get a little glimmer. Wednesday morning the 8th, the wind drops to glassy with a slight air. The surf is still small, only 2ft from the west with a 9-second period, and the energy is weak (87), but the glassy conditions mean it's surfable. It's ordinary, but clean. That's the best we've seen. The same thing happens again on Thursday morning the 9th – another 2ft west swell with glassy conditions and weak energy (90). For a beginner-friendly break like Tolcarne, those glassy windows are your only real shot at a fun, clean session.
The problem is, after those two mornings, the wind turns ugly again, and for the rest of the forecast, it's a relentless barrage of onshore and cross-shore winds, often moderate to fresh, with the swell staying small and weak. The combined energy does spike on Sunday the 12th (249) and Friday the 17th (251), but those days come with strong, lumpy winds that will ruin any chance of quality. The 17th even has a 5ft swell from the north, but with a short 6-second period and onshore wind, it's just a messy close-out.
So, what's the standout? Honestly, there isn't a true standout in this entire run. The best on offer are those two brief, glassy mornings on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th July. They're your best bet by a long shot – clean, small, and ridable, even if the waves are ordinary. If you're a beginner, you'll find something to paddle into. Just don't expect any power or shape. For the rest of the time, save your energy. Tolcarne is just not cooperating.
Rusty.
