Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a good, hard look at what’s coming up for our local stretch. I gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking like a bit of a fizzer. We’ve got a long, flat spell ahead, but there are a couple of tiny windows where you might just get a splash.
The outlook is pretty quiet overall. We’re looking at a big gap right from the start with no real swell to speak of. For the first week and a half, from Monday the 6th right through to Saturday the 18th, the surf is basically non-existent. The waves are tiny, the wind is messy, and the scores are all zeros. You’re better off waxing your board or fixing a ding. There’s a brief moment on the morning of Wednesday the 8th where Tolcarne sees some glassy conditions with a 2ft swell from the W, but the period is short at 9 seconds and the energy is only weak (90). It’s surfable, but it’s ordinary. Nothing to get excited about.
Then we hit a real blank run. From the 11th through the 18th, it's almost all flat and poor. The wind stays messy or off, and the swell heights drop to 0.7ft or 1.0ft. This is a classic summer lull for the area. Don't let it get you down – it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Now, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon about a week and a half away. On Sunday the 19th of July, we finally see some life. Tolcarne gets a pulse of 2ft swell from the W, but here’s the interesting bit – the period jumps to 13 seconds on the morning and 12 in the afternoon. That’s a proper groundswell, which is a lot more promising for shape and energy than the tiny wind chop we’ve been seeing. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the ESE at 16 mph, which is a great sign. The combined swell energy hits 137 in the morning, which is moderate. That could produce some fun, well-shaped runners, especially with that clean breeze. It’s not huge, but after all this flatness, it looks like the standout of the whole outlook.
So, my advice? Save your energy. The next week is a write-off. Keep an eye on that Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th. The long-range call is a bit less certain, but that little burst of groundswell with clean wind is the best bet we’ve got.
Stay patient, and keep the wax warm.
