Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tolcarne over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, it's a tough stretch ahead. The next week and a half is looking pretty grim. From Thursday morning the 9th right through to Wednesday the 22nd, the surf is tiny and messy. We’re looking at knee-high slop, if that, with a lot of cross and onshore winds messing up the surface. Most days the combined wave energy is weak, barely cracking 100 (126) at best, and often dropping to just 21 or 23. That's not enough to push a surfboard around. You’ll mainly see light cross-onshore ripples or choppy conditions. There's a big gap with no real recommendations for over a week.
The only real standout in this whole forecast comes right at the very end, on Friday morning the 24th of July. That is the only day worth getting excited about. The swell picks up to a solid 6 ft from the WNW, with a short period of 6 seconds. The combined energy hits 242, which is moderate but still a lot more than we've seen. The real kicker is the wind, which goes glassy. That’s right, a flat calm, mirror-like surface. For a place like Tolcarne, which is a fairly exposed beginner-friendly break, that’s going to be as clean as it gets. The swell direction is almost straight from the optimum W, so it should wrap in nicely. It’s a bit of a short-period swell, so it won't have the grunt of a groundswell, but with glassy conditions and a decent 6 ft of height, it’ll be a fun, clean wave for a beginner or intermediate. Keep in mind that with a 6 ft swell, it might be a little too much for absolute beginners, but it's far from dangerous.
So, mark your calendar for Friday the 24th. That’s your one shot. The rest of the window is a write-off, but forecasts can change, and it tends not to stay this flat forever.
Rusty.
