Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about the waves on offer for this stretch.
To be honest, it’s a pretty grim outlook. Right from the get-go, Tolcarne (North Cornwall) is looking flat. The whole 16-day window is a write-off for anything worth paddling out for. We’re looking at a full 16-day gap with zero recommendations, so don't hold your breath.
The water temp is around 61°F which is about average for this time of year. Not a talking point.
On the Tuesday morning of the 7th of July, there’s a tiny 2ft west swell with a 9-second period, but the wind is cross-onshore, the combined energy is weak at 81, and the report says poor surf conditions. It doesn’t get any better. Through Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th, we see a bit of a bump in wave energy into the 100s – moderate energy – but it’s still messy with light to moderate cross-onshore breezes, keeping the quality poor. Waist-high slop at best.
Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th offer slightly bigger swell heights up to 3ft, but it’s cross-shore or cross-onshore wind all the way, with choppy conditions. The energy is moderate at best, at 138 on Friday morning, but the wave comment sticks with "poor surf conditions." Sunday the 12th of July morning drops off again, with energy crashing down to 55, and the afternoon shows a tiny 0.3ft swell – completely flat.
The second week from the 13th of July onwards is even more hopeless. We get some clean-looking offshore wind from the east and southeast, but the swell heights are pathetic – mostly 3ft or less, and often dropping to 0.3ft or 0.7ft. The combined energy is weak, reading 63 on Monday morning, then as low as 15 on the 16th of July. You might see a clean surface, but there’s no power behind it. Periods are often short at 6 seconds, and the wave comment is "poor surf conditions" across the board.
The best you can say is that from the 19th of July there’s some proper offshore wind, but the swell is still tiny at 1ft. Even the cleanest conditions can’t do anything with that. It’s not worth the rubber.
Rusty.
