Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tolcarne over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee and settle in, because I’ve gotta be straight with you: the next sixteen days here at Tolcarne are a proper drought. We’re looking at a long, flat start with nothing but small, sloppy waves and poor conditions. The first real surf doesn’t show up until Sunday the 26th of July, and even then it’s a bit of a gamble.
From now until Sunday the 26th, we’re stuck in a pattern of tiny, weak swell. The energy is barely there, with combined swell readings mostly sitting in the double digits (like 94, 75, 96), meaning it’s weak. The waves are small, 0.7 ft to 3 ft, and the wind is often messy. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing weird.
You’ll see a few clean-ish moments, like Tuesday the 14th of July afternoon with a light ESE breeze, but the swell is a pathetic 0.7 ft from the WSW with a weird 18-second period – that’s a long-period groundswell, but it’s just too small to do anything at a beach break like Tolcarne. It’ll break too straight. Not worth getting wet for.
The real kicker comes on Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th. By Sunday morning, the swell finally picks up to 4 ft from the WSW, with combined energy hitting 107 (moderate). But the wind is a fresh cross-onshore breeze from the WNW at 19 mph, making it lumpy. Sunday afternoon gets a bit better: 4 ft from the W, energy at 184, but still a fresh cross-shore wind. It’s not great, but it’s the first real surf we’ve seen.
Then Monday the 27th of July morning is a standout – but only for experts. The swell jumps to 8 ft from the W, with a strong 649 combined energy. The wind is a strong cross-offshore breeze from the SW at 25 mph, so it’s clean. That’s a big, powerful, clean wave, but at 8 ft, it’s too big for beginners. The period is only 8 seconds, so it’s a short-period windswell, which means it’ll be a bit crumbly and choppy, but still powerful. Monday afternoon gets even bigger: 8 ft from the W, energy at 948, but the wind swings to a strong cross-shore, making it messy.
Honestly, for most of this block, the only real highlight is that Monday the 27th morning window if you’re a solid surfer. The rest is a write-off. The set-up with the strong wind and solid swell might actually be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Stick with it though – it tends not to stay poor for long.
