The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – this is a quiet stretch for the Torbay area. We're looking at Paignton, and honestly, the surf diary is pretty empty for most of the next 16 days.
The first record shows a bit of life on Sunday, August 23rd, but it's tiny. We're talking about ankle-snappers at 0.7 ft to 1 ft from the east-northeast with a short, weak period of 2 to 4 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 1 to 7 (weak). The wind is onshore or cross-onshore, so it's just messy. Not worth paddling out for.
Monday, August 24th, brings a pulse of easterly swell. The height jumps to 7 ft in the morning, hitting 8 ft in the afternoon. The period is still short at 7 seconds, but the combined energy kicks up to 378 and 554 (moderate). This is the biggest swell of the whole forecast. But here's the catch – the wind is a solid 35 km/h from the east, blowing straight onshore. That's a fresh breeze creating poor, lumpy conditions. This one is a pass, and honestly, with that much wind and onshore chop, it's looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The rest of the week from Tuesday, August 25th, onwards is a write-off. The swell drops off fast, and by Thursday, August 27th, we're back to flat with no surfable energy. From Friday, August 28th all the way through to Monday, September 7th, the rows are full of zeros for wave height and energy. Winds swing offshore and cross-offshore at times, but without any swell, it's just a flat, clean ocean. We’re looking at a solid 10-day gap of no surf on offer.
So, the standout? There isn't one. The only time we see any size is that Monday the 24th, but the onshore wind ruins it. If you're desperate, you could look at it for a bodyboard or a foiling session, but for a normal surf, the forecast is a dead loss. Hang tight, check back in a week, and we'll see if the models start talking to us.
Rusty.
