Table - best surf conditions forecast for Paignton over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s run through what’s on the table for Paignton over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta tell you, the outlook is grim. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor surf conditions starting now and running right through until at least late July. There’s nothing worth paddling out for at the start – the first ten days are mostly a write-off with tiny, weak swells and messy winds. The water is sitting at 65°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, but that doesn’t help the waves.
The first real flicker of something happens on Saturday July 12th morning. Swell bumps up to 6 ft from the east, with a period of just 7 seconds. The energy is moderate at 255, but the wind is a fresh cross-onshore from the northeast at 19 mph, making it lumpy. Not good. By Sunday July 13th morning, we get the biggest swell of the whole run – 8 ft from the east, period 8 seconds, energy up to 742. That’s solid wave energy, but it’s still cross-onshore and lumpy with a 22 mph breeze. This is expert-only stuff if anyone is mad enough to try, but honestly, it’s going to be blown out.
After Monday July 14th, the swell drops back down, and by Wednesday July 16th, conditions go from poor to flat. From around Thursday July 17th right through to the end of the period on July 25th, the wave heights either disappear or are tiny weak dribbles with next to no energy. A few afternoons show clean conditions from a cross-off wind, but there’s simply no swell to work with.
There is no standout here. No hidden gem. The best of a bad bunch would be Monday morning July 13th at Paignton if you’re an expert looking for a challenge in messy, windy 8 ft east swell – but you’ll need a thick wetsuit and low expectations. The rest is a total blank. For this area, a flat spell like this is pretty normal for summer, so don’t hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s looking like a long wait.
