Table - best surf conditions forecast for Paignton over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – this is a tough one for Paignton. We're looking at a solid 16-day window, and honestly, the surf gods are not on our side. The entire forecast is a long run of "poor surf conditions," with a score of zero across the board. We've got a rough start, with a bit of swell on the first day but it's all blown out.
Let's break it down. This Sunday, the 12th of July, we see a 5ft swell from the East with a short, weak period of 6 seconds. The wind is a fresh 19 mph from the ENE, making it a lumpy, cross-onshore mess. The combined wave energy is a weak 213. The next day, Monday the 13th, is actually the biggest of the run with an 8ft easterly swell, but the period is still a short 8 seconds and the wind is howling at 22 mph. That energy jumps to 805, but it's going to be a rough, blown-out 8ft, which is really only for the experienced guys, and even then, the conditions will be awful.
The rest of the week is a slow decline. Tuesday the 14th offers a smaller 5ft swell, but it's still choppy. By Thursday the 16th, the swell drops to 2ft, and while we get a brief moment of glassy conditions in the morning, there's no real power behind it. By Friday the 17th, the swell completely flatlines, and we're looking at a long gap of no surf at all.
From the 17th of July right through to the 27th, we're looking at a massive dry spell. There are a few tiny pulses of energy around the 20th, with a 3ft swell from the ENE, but the period is a ridiculously short 4 seconds, making it totally unsurfable with onshore winds. The water temp is about average for the time of year, but that won't help you here.
Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for the kite surfers than for us paddle surfers, especially on those days with a fresh cross-onshore and a bit of bump. There's nothing here to get excited about. Keep your board waxed and wait for the next system.
Rusty.
