Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – Widemouth Bay is looking pretty flat for the foreseeable future. We’ve got a 16‑day window, and honestly, there’s no real surf to get excited about. The swell is tiny, barely a ripple, and most days the wave comment says “poor surf conditions.” The best we see is a little pulse around Friday 10th July – morning brings 3 ft from the west with glassy conditions. That’s the pick of the bunch, but 3 ft is barely a knee‑high dribble, and the combined swell energy is only 104 – weak. The water’s a touch warmer than usual for the time of year at 63°F, so that’s nice if you fancy a paddle, but not for surfing.
Let’s run through it. Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th start off with 2‑2 ft west swell and onshore wind – messy. Wednesday morning has a short window of glassy wind and 2 ft, but it’s still very ordinary. Thursday 9th is cross‑shore and choppy. Friday 10th morning is your best bet: 3 ft west swell, light easterly breeze going glassy, and a moderate‑ish energy reading of 104. Even then it’s only surfable, not good. Saturday 11th morning has 2 ft with offshore wind, but again tiny. After that, the swell collapses – Sunday 12th onward shows 0.3‑1.0 ft from various directions, often with strong offshore winds that make it clean but impossible to catch anything. The periods get weird – long 18‑21 seconds on those little bumps, which just means they’ll close out or pass right under you.
From Monday 13th right through to Wednesday 22nd, it’s all 0.3‑1 ft and mostly clean but useless. There’s a tiny uptick around Monday 20th – 3 ft from the NNW but with a short 5‑second period and cross‑shore breeze, so junk. After that, back to nothing.
So, no standouts. Widemouth Bay is a beach and reef setup that’s fairly consistent normally, but this run is a dud. The optimum swell direction is west‑northwest, and we are getting some west pulses, but the height just isn’t there. Beginner spot, but even beginners need something to ride. If you’re a kite surfer, some of those offshore wind days might look fun, but for a surfboard – leave it at home.
Keep an eye on the charts – it tends not to stay this quiet for long around here. But for now, I’d spend the money on a new wetsuit, not a trip to the coast.
Stay salty,
Rusty
