Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you: there’s nothing worth paddling out for in the next 16 days at Widemouth Bay. Flat as a pancake, with only tiny, weak swells and mostly poor conditions. Water’s sitting at 63°F – a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, with an anomaly of 3°F, so at least you won’t freeze if you go for a swim.
The whole first week is a write-off. Monday 6th afternoon has a 2ft W swell but it’s onshore and weak – combined energy a measly 73. Tuesday 7th drops to 2ft, still onshore. Wednesday 8th morning glassy with NE 3 mph, but only 2ft at 9 seconds – surfable but very ordinary. Thursday 9th morning similar glassy conditions, 2ft at 10 seconds. Still nothing to get excited about. Friday 10th morning sees some clean cross-offshore wind and 3ft W swell (106 energy), which is the best of a bad bunch, but it’s still poor surf according to the charts. Saturday 11th morning tiny again. Sunday 12th morning has strong offshore ENE 16 mph but only 2ft of NNW windswell at 6 seconds – no thanks. That afternoon a weird 0.3ft groundswell with a 21 second period shows up, but it’s so small you’d need a microscope. Same story Monday 13th – 0.3ft at 19 seconds, useless.
From the 14th through the 18th we get consistent offshore or glassy winds but swells are tiny – 0.7ft to 1ft at best, most with weak energy under 30. There’s a slight bump on Sunday 19th morning: 2ft W swell at 13 seconds, cross-offshore wind and combined energy of 103 – but the forecast still calls it poor surf. Probably a few waist-high lumps if you’re desperate, but certainly not worth the drive.
Bottom line: no standout options across the entire 16-day window. Widemouth Bay is fairly consistent usually, but July can go quiet like this. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s a long flat spell. Keep the board in the car and hope for a better run next month.
