Table - best surf conditions forecast for Widemouth Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Widemouth Bay. To be honest, this forecast is a tough one to read. We’ve got a long stretch of quiet conditions and only a couple of moments that might get the heart beating.
The whole sixteen-day window starts with pretty limp energy. The combined swell energy is mostly in the weak range, often under 100 (44 to 107), so don’t expect much push. Water temp is sitting at 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for July. That’s about it for the positives right now.
Tuesday afternoon the 7th is a write-off with poor surf conditions. Wednesday morning the 8th has a glimmer with a glassy surface thanks to a light 3 mph NW wind, but the swell is only 2ft from the west with a short 9-second period. It’s surfable but very ordinary. That’s about as good as it gets for a while.
Through Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th, the swell struggles to reach 3ft. The only bright spot is Friday morning, the 10th, when a light offshore ESE breeze at 3 mph keeps things clean, but the swell energy is moderate at 107, still small. The rest of that week and all of the second week is a grim run of poor surf conditions, very small waves (0.3ft to 2ft), and often onshore or cross-onshore winds.
There is a notable spike on the 22nd of July, a Wednesday, when the swell jumps to 5ft from the west with an 8-second period. That’s too tall for the weak energy reading of 264 (moderate), but honestly, with a fresh 19 mph onshore wind, it’s going to be lumpy and messy. Not one for a beginner, and really only kite-surfing material in that blow.
Overall, the only standout, if you can call it that, is Wednesday morning the 8th at Widemouth Bay. Glassy conditions and a tiny waist-high wave from the west (2ft). For a surfer, it’s a patience test. The rest of the period is a long, flat gap with nothing worth chasing. Forecasts can change, but right now, this stretch is a write-off.
Rusty.
