Table - best surf conditions forecast for Widemouth Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a lean run. We're looking at a long stretch of tiny, poor-quality surf. The first few days are the pick of a very weak bunch, but honestly, for the most part, we're staring down the barrel of a whole lot of nothing.
The only real consistency we have is at Widemouth Bay. It's a beach and reef setup, fairly exposed to the swell. Now, the water's sitting at 63° – that's a couple of degrees warmer than usual for this time of year, so you won't need the thickest wetsuit.
Thursday morning (July 9th) is actually the best it's gonna get. The wind is glassy, dead calm out of the North, and we've got a 2ft, 10-second W swell rolling in. The energy is weak (90), but it'll be clean. That's your window. It's a beginner-friendly wave though, so don't expect anything with much punch.
After that, it's a slow fade. Friday morning (July 10th) starts clean again with a 3ft, 9-second W swell, and the energy picks up a touch to a moderate 104. But come afternoon, the wind swings around and trashes it. Saturday morning (July 11th) sees a moderate offshore breeze from the ENE, but the swell has dropped to a tiny 2ft, 8-second W. It's clean but gutless.
From Sunday (July 12th) onwards, it's a write-off. The swell just disappears. We get a few days of 0.3ft to 1.0ft slop with strong offshore winds that just blow the ocean flat. The combined energy values drop to pathetic two-digit numbers, sometimes as low as 11. There's a bit of a pulse on Monday 20th July afternoon with a 4ft, 7-second W swell and energy hitting 127, but the wind is straight onshore and choppy. That's more of a kite-surfing breeze than a paddling session.
The rest of the run through to Thursday 24th July is a mix of tiny cross-shore junk and onshore slop. Nothing is above 4ft, and the wind is rarely on your side. Honestly, it's one of those blanks where you're better off sorting your gear or waiting for the next forecast. The lack of consistency is normal for this area when the summer pattern sets in hard.
Stay tuned, forecasts can change, but for now, it's a bit of a dry spell.
