The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, doing this one in feet and miles per hour for you.
Look, for Trestrignel, this is a tough forecast. The first week is basically a write-off. The wind is almost always working against us, mostly cross-onshore or a stiff cross-shore, tearing up the ocean. The water is 66°F, a bit warmer than normal for late summer.
Wednesday August 19th starts off weak with 5ft west swell, but it’s a windswell with a period of just 5 seconds, and a moderate WNW breeze (16 mph) makes it choppy and cross-on. The energy is weak (114). Stay out.
Thursday August 20th has 7ft WNW swell coming in at 9-second intervals, building moderate energy (645 to 739). But a fresh 19 mph W wind keeps it lumpy and cross-onshore. It’s not good.
Friday August 21st in the morning, we get a tiny window. There's 5ft of WNW swell, an offshore breeze from the NNW at 6 mph, and moderate energy (370). It *looks* clean, but the report says the surf is poor. It’s your cleanest shot early on, but the waves just aren't there. By the afternoon, it’s cross-on and choppy again.
Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are tiny, with swell under 2ft. Not worth a second glance.
The second week finally brings a chance. Wednesday morning August 26th is the standout. We’ve got 7ft of west swell (8-second period), solid moderate energy at 520, and a nice cross-offshore breeze from the SSW at 12 mph. The report says it’s clean. This is your go-to window if you’re an intermediate or ripper. It’s a little big for total beginners.
Friday August 28th through Saturday August 29th is cleaner, with cross-offshore winds, but the swell drops to 4ft to 3ft, and energy is low (137 to 164). It’s fair, but not the main event.
Late in the outlook, Monday August 31st brings a big jump to 10ft of west swell, with very strong energy (1940 to 1600). The wind, though, is a fresh cross-onshore from the W and WNW, turning a powerful swell into a lumpy mess. Skip it.
Tuesday September 01st stays big (8ft), but the cross-shore wind is still stiff and lumpy.
The final real shot is Wednesday morning, September 02nd. We’ve got 8ft of WNW swell (9 seconds, strong energy at 900), and a clean cross-offshore breeze from the SW at 12 mph. That’s a good, powerful combo for an advanced surfer. The Saturday morning August 29th session is also clean but small.
So here is the honest truth: Wednesday August 26th morning is your best bet for the best overall quality with decent size. Wednesday September 02nd morning is better for power and size if you can handle it. The rest is all blown out or too small.
Rusty.
