Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trestrignel over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. We’ve got a stretch of quiet, bumpy conditions ahead before a late pulse of energy shows up. The long-range potential is there, but we’ll have to earn it.
The first real surf makes a quiet appearance, but we’re talking about a long stretch of weak, messy stuff. The first green light we see is a bit of a dud. For the first few days, the surf is small and the wind is everywhere but clean. The combined swell energy is barely a whisper, with values like 916 and 515, but it’s all cross-off or cross-shore winds, and the swell is a short-period, 8-second NE windswell. The waves are just poor. That theme sticks around for a solid two weeks. The wind is mostly cross-on or cross, and the swell is tiny, often under 2 ft, with periods between 6 and 10 seconds. The combined energy drops into the 20s, 30s, and 40s. It’s just not worth paddling out for.
The tide turns around July 27th. Monday morning brings a big jump: a 8 ft swell from the west, with a 10-second period, and the combined energy hits 1021. That’s a solid moderate-to-strong energy reading. The wind is a light NNE breeze, only about 6 mph, which is a massive positive for clean surface conditions. The only issue is the wind is described as “cross-on,” so it’s not perfectly glassy, but it’s light enough that the waves will be far cleaner than anything else in the forecast. However, the swell is over 8 ft, so this is really only for the experienced crew. The break is Trestrignel, which is a sheltered spot, and the optimum swell direction is from the NW, but the swell is coming from the west. That’s close enough to be decent, but not a perfect match. The crowd factor is “always,” so expect a busy lineup, especially for the best day in the whole window.
The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing weird going on there.
So, the standout is undeniably Monday morning, July 27th, at Trestrignel. The 8 ft west swell, paired with a light offshore-ish breeze, is the closest we’ll get to a proper session. The 6 ft swell on Tuesday morning, July 28th, is also worth a look, but the wind is a bit more cross, and the energy is lower (498). That’s a solid second option for anyone who missed the Monday.
Because the swell is over 8 ft on the 27th, it’s a session for the confident surfers. Beginners should stay on the beach and watch.
Rusty.
