The Lowdown
Alright, let’s cut the crap. The next week and a half is a total dud. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing on the horizon, so don’t even bother waxing up. From today until the 30th of August, it’s flat, weak, and all over the place. We’re talking a solid nine-day dry spell. Any bump in the water is just short-period slop or blown out by the wind. The water is sittin’ at 66°F, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.
Then, finally, on the morning of the 31st of August, we get a pulse of proper groundswell. It’s not huge, but it’s got some energy behind it – the reading jumps to 487, the first real sign of life. The swell is out of the W, and the wind is light and clean. It’s not perfect, but it’s the first real chance you’ll get. The afternoon gets a bit lumpy, so get out there early.
But then it fades again. The first few days of September look messy with cross-shore winds chopping up any remaining swell. On the 3rd, there’s some bump, but it’s short-period windswell with onshore winds – that’s not gonna be fun.
Your real window, the one to circle on the calendar, is the morning of the 4th of September. It’s still over a week out, so take it with a grain of salt, but the setup looks good. We’ve got a modest swell out of the W running about 5ft, and the wind is light and offshore, leaving it clean. The energy is solid. It’s not a monster, but it will be the best surf we’ve seen in the whole window. Trestrignel is sheltered and consistent, but it’s a beginner spot, so expect it to be crowded. This is your one and only standout.
The morning after, the 5th, still has some waves but it’s a step down in quality. So, make a plan for the 4th. That’s your call.
Rusty, out.
