Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – we’re looking at a bit of a flat spell for Trestrignel for the first couple of weeks here. The water’s sitting at about 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
Right now, through the start of July, there’s just nothing doing. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the wave comment says it all: “poor surf conditions.” We’re looking at a gap of about 13 days with nothing worth paddling out for. From Sunday the 5th all the way through to Friday the 17th of July, it’s flat and messy. The combined swell energy barely gets into three digits a couple of times, but even then, it’s weak and poorly directed.
The first real glimmer comes on Saturday the 18th of July, in the morning. We get a glassy morning with a light northerly breeze – that’s a major positive. The swell bumps up to just 4ft from the NE, but the period is a short 5 seconds, so it’ll be a bit mushy and won’t have much punch. The combined energy is only 134, so it’s moderate at best. The wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s not a standout, but it’s the only thing on the board. After that, it drops right back off into nothing by Sunday morning the 19th.
Look, the only day I’d even consider it is that Saturday morning, 18th of July. The glassy conditions will make it look pretty, but the swell is weak and short-period, so it’s really only for those who just need to get wet. It’s a “rarely breaks” sort of vibe right now for Trestrignel, and this is one of those blank runs that’s more normal for the sheltered setup here. Keep an eye on things – forecasts change, but for now, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
