Scheveningen Pier Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you on this one. It’s a tough stretch for the Dutch coast. We’ve got a solid 16-day window, but honestly, it’s pretty barren. There’s a big gap right at the start through the middle of the period, and then a couple of faint glimmers way out at the end. Let’s run through it.

The first day we might see something is Sunday the 19th, but it’s not a goer. The water is a balmy 69°, which is a wild 7° warmer than usual for this time of year – we’re talking a full-on marine heatwave, it feels like a bath. The swell is mixed up, around 5ft from the NNW, but it’s a short-period, weak 7-second windswell (231 combined energy). The wind is a stiff 16 mph from the NNW, making it a messy cross-onshore. It’s poor.

That theme continues through the whole first week. From Monday the 20th through to Saturday the 26th, we’re looking at tiny 1.0ft to 4ft windswell, all from the NNW or N, with periods between 4 and 7 seconds. Combined energy drops from a weak 124 all the way down to a pathetic 9. Winds are mostly moderate cross-onshore breezes. It’s a flat, choppy mess. Honestly, the conditions on Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th look more interesting for a kite than a paddle.

We hit a real dead zone into the start of August. Saturday the 1st of August is a write-off with 25 mph cross-shore winds and zero swell. The whole first week of the outlook is a complete blank.

The first real chance, and I’m using the term loosely, pops up on Tuesday the 28th of July. The swell nudges back up to 5ft from the NW, but it’s still a short 6-second period. The combined energy is moderate at 152, but the wind is a cross-onshore at 16 mph. The surf will be lumpy and poor. Later that week, Sunday the 2nd of August shows a similar setup: 5ft from the N, 6 seconds, 148 combined energy, but with a cleaner onshore wind from the NW. Still not great.

The only window that even looks like a possibility is Monday the 3rd of August. Early morning, we’ve got a tiny 2ft swell from the N, but the wind is a glassy 3 mph from the west. That’s the definition of clean. The waves will be small, but if you’ve got a log, that morning session at Scheveningen Pier could be a fun, empty little knee-slapper. The combined energy is only 25, so it’s weak, but it’s the cleanest the water will be all outlook.

To be honest, these weak north swells and onshore winds are a classic summer pattern for the area. It’s a long, flat run. Don’t hold your breath for the first week and a half. Keep an eye on the charts for the 2nd and 3rd of August – that’s your only real bet, and it’s a long shot.
