The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for our little slice of coast.
Honestly, the next two weeks look rough. We’ve got a stretch of tiny, weak, and messy surf that drags on for days. The first real, half-decent pulse of energy doesn’t show up until Saturday the 5th of September, and even then, it’s a wild and windy affair. Water temp is sitting at 69°, which is a crazy 6° warmer than usual for this time of year—that’s weird, but not enough to fix the waves.
Pourville is our only spot on the radar. For the next several days, forget it. Wave heights are barely tickling 1 foot to 2 feet with short-period junk and zero energy. The winds are all over the place, and conditions are just poor. There’s a tease of something on Saturday the 29th of August with a 4-foot swell from the WSW, but it’s got a fresh 19 mph wind behind it, making it lumpy and messy. Energy is still weak at (97).
Sunday the 30th of August afternoon is the first time we see a “surfable” rating—3 feet from the W, light wind, clean—but it’s a one-off and honestly, it’s barely worth paddling for.
Monday the 31st of August gets hammered: 8 feet from the W with a near gale blowing 31 mph. That’s a 692 energy reading, so there’s a ton of juice, but it’s a complete blowout. Kite surfers might be loving it; paddlers, not so much.
The rest of the first week into September stays small or messy. Winds stay strong from the W, and you’re lucky to see chest-high slop.
The standout in this whole grim forecast comes on Saturday the 5th of September. Morning session: 6 feet from the W, period of 8 seconds, energy cranked up to (410). The wind is SW at 19 mph but cross-offshore, which will keep it clean. That’s the best window—big enough to get some push, but at 6 feet it’s starting to push beyond beginner territory. This spot is inconsistent, so getting a day like this is rare. If it lines up, it’ll be a solid expert session with some power.
The following day, Sunday the 6th, is slightly smaller at 4 feet but onshore and choppy. Then on Monday the 7th of September morning, a 5-foot west swell with a clean offshore SSE breeze at 16 mph offers a second chance—surfable but ordinary.
Beyond that, it fades back into tiny, weak waves. Not much else to write home about. This is a lean spell for Pourville. Let’s hope things change.
Rusty.
