Wimereux Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Well, let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a flat spell here, and honestly, looking at the whole stretch, I’m not seeing much to get overly excited about. The next couple of weeks are going to test your patience if you’re chasing waves at Wimereux. There’s a bit of a pulse of energy early on, but the wind and the conditions are just going to trash it. The good news? It’s looking like the water is running a lot warmer than usual for this time of year, which is a small win when you’re just sitting out there waiting.

Right off the bat, Monday the 31st has some size, but it’s rough. We’re looking at a cross-on shore breeze blowing at 25 mph. The swell is coming out of the WSW at 7ft with a short, weak 7-second period. The combined energy is reading at 456, which is moderate, but it’s all for nothing. It’s just a mess out there. The poor surf conditions score says it all. It eases a bit into the afternoon, but the wind stays on it, so no dice.

Tuesday the 1st is a big drop. We go down to under 3ft, with the wind turning onshore. It’s a small, choppy mess. The water temp is sitting around 69°F, which is a notable 6°F warmer than average, but that’s about the only highlight. Wednesday the 2nd stays small and lumpy, and Thursday the 3rd kicks up a little with some fresh cross-onshore wind again, but the swell is still short in period, so it’s going to be weak and disorganised. The energy is moderate at 136, but it’s just not translating into anything rideable.

Friday the 4th has a bit of size in the afternoon, 6ft, but it’s a cross-on mess again. Saturday the 5th is cleaner with an onshore wind and a bit of a drop in size, but it’s not much to write home about. Then we hit a proper lull. From Sunday the 6th, we’re looking at tiny surf, barely breaking. There’s a clean window on the 6th with light offshore wind, but the swell is a paltry 1ft. That’s a couple of days of nothing.

The 7th and 8th are basically flat, with a tiny bit of knee-high slop. There’s a day on the 12th with some clean conditions and a cross-off wind, but the swell is comically small, coming from the north with a 4-second period. It’s going to be a lake out there. We’re looking at a solid week of essentially nothing from the 6th through to the 14th, maybe a tiny bump here and there, but nothing surfable for a human.

Then, on Tuesday the 15th of September, things wake up. There’s a real pulse of energy showing up. We’re looking at a swell building to 6ft in the morning, climbing to 8ft by the afternoon. The combined energy jumps to 620, which is strong. But here’s the kicker – the wind is going to be howling out of the WSW at 28 mph. It’s going to be a full-on, cross-onshore storm surf. With that kind of size and that wind, it’s not going to be clean. It’s going to be a washing machine. At 8ft, this is expert territory in these conditions, and with the wind that strong, it’s going to be blown out and lumpy. Honestly, with that much swell and that much wind on a beach setup, this might look more interesting for the kite surfers than the paddle crew. It’s got power, but it’s going to be punishing and messy.

So, all in all, there’s no standout day in this window. The only real swell of note arrives on the 15th, but the wind ruins it. For now, keep the board in the car and enjoy the warm water when you do get in. This often doesn't stay poor for long, and the forecasts can change, but as it stands, it’s a blank run for Wimereux.
