Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s coming for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. We’re looking at a proper flat spell. There’s a big gap right at the start, with nothing worth paddling out for. The first proper suggestion doesn't pop up until Tuesday, 22 July, and even then, it’s a real struggle.
The only break on the radar is Llantwit Major, a point set-up that’s fairly consistent and exposed to the southwest, though the optimum swell is from the SW. The problem is, for the first two weeks of the forecast, we get nothing but tiny dribbles. Swell heights barely scrape 1 foot, periods are mostly short, and the combined energy is weak, often in the single digits. The water temp is 65°F with an anomaly of 7°F, so it’s *much* warmer than normal for the time of year – that’s pretty unusual, but there’s no surf to enjoy it in.
From Tuesday 7 July right through to Monday 20 July, there isn't a single standout. We get a few moments of clean conditions with offshore winds, like Saturday afternoon (11 July) and Sunday morning (12 July), but with a 0.3-foot swell, you’d be floating. That’s barely a ripple. Even when the wind goes glassy on Thursday morning (9 July) and Friday afternoon (10 July), the swell is just 1 foot to 2 feet; enough to get wet, but not enough to ride.
The best of a bad bunch comes right at the end. On Wednesday morning, 22 July, we catch a little pulse. A 1-foot swell from the WNW, period of 4 seconds, cross-off wind from the east at 6 mph. The combined energy is still pathetic at 6, but the wind keeps it clean. Then on Wednesday afternoon, 22 July, it gets slightly more interesting: a 2-foot swell from the WNW, with a 5-second period and a light cross-on breeze leaving small wind ripples. The energy jumps to 24 – still very weak, but it’s the best we see. Even then, it’s only for the brave or the desperate.
So, the honest truth is, there are no highlights. This is a blank run for the area. We get a major gap of nearly two and a half weeks with next to nothing. It’s a waiting game. The forecasts can change, and we’ve had good runs here before, but for now, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
