Table - best surf conditions forecast for Llantwit Major over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you. I've had a long look at the charts for Llantwit Major, and I'm not going to sugarcoat it: this is a grim run for the next two and a half weeks. We’ve got a solid 16-day window on the books, but the honest truth is there isn’t a single session where I’d tell you to grab your board and go. The forecast is a flat spell with hardly any energy.
Right now, the water there is sitting at a very unusual 66°F, which is a solid 7°F warmer than what you'd expect for July. That’s a real anomaly, but it doesn't help us when there’s nothing to ride.
The pattern starts off with tiny, weak swell. Friday the 10th, we’re looking at a 1ft to 2ft wind swell out of the west, with a short period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is only 26 to 39 (weak energy), and the wind is cross-off. It’s clean, but it’s just not surfable. Saturday and Sunday the 11th and 12th are even worse, dropping to 0.7ft and 0.3ft. The wind turns gusty offshore on Saturday afternoon, but with an 8-second period and about as much push as a bath toy, it’s a no-go.
We then hit a total dead zone. Monday the 13th through to the morning of Friday the 17th is essentially flat. The combined energy sits at zero or single digits. There’s a brief moment on Friday morning the 17th where we get some glassy conditions with a 0.7ft leftover, but the energy is only 5 (weak). It’s pretty, but useless.
Saturday the 18th sees a tiny bump. A 2ft to 3ft northerly swell with a very short period of just 5 seconds rolls in. The combined energy climbs to 44 (weak). The wind is cross-shore, so it’s choppy. This is kite-surfing territory at best—the setup is more interesting for a kite than a paddle board.
Through the end of the second week, things get a bit bigger, but wind becomes the enemy. From the 21st of July onward, we see a steady run of westerly swells climbing from 2ft up to 4ft by the 25th. The period is short (4 to 9 seconds). The combined energy hits moderate levels, peaking at 153 (moderate wave energy) on the afternoon of the 25th. But the trade-off is a persistent cross-onshore or onshore wind from the west-southwest, making everything lumpy and choppy. By the 25th, we have a clean 3ft to 4ft swell, but with a 30 km/h cross-onshore wind, it’s blown out. That’s a crying shame for what could have been a fun size.
To sum it up: there are no standout days. The whole 16-day outlook is a write-off for surfing. It’s a classic case of nothing on the horizon. We keep hoping the forecasts will change, but for now, this is a blank run.
