“Ok without it degenerating into a row.
The fact is half the local camp is a virtually closed airforce base the other half has been home to a pathfinder unit of Marines and Paras for over 3 years. I am not only a local but I am ex-airforce, and was based at this unit for over ten years. The review below simply states the facts. The surf is good. The local town is really lovely, however there is often trouble in the local pubs which is more often than not related to young, squaddies with anger issues particulalrly after drinking.
I suggest Danny may have moved away sometime ago and is not very clear about what the town (I still live in now) is like.”

“I liked the comment about Llantwit major regarding the 'sqauddies', fact is its a Airforce base with No paras, and No marines, having spent 5 years there and surfing Llantwit, ogmore and Southerndown as well as every other beach in the area again i hear the stereotypical blame the squaddies, it took 18mths for me to be accepted at LLantwit after threats and my car being damaged on numerous occasions. Llantwit and the beach is a lovely place but the town has like many towns with a Camp or a Airforce base has a few disgruntled locals who at any given chance will cause trouble for the more well off service personnel.”

“Llantiwt is an underrated break.
When other local spots have nil surf the topography and tide can kick up some nice waves.
There's a significant rip over the rocky point.
Infamous for its localism things have improved a fair bit over the years but occasionally there's still some tension when it's busy.
On a good day left and right rides can be had simultaneously which shortens the line up wait.
Groms can get wet just off the beach sandy area but waves tend to be dumpy here.
To the left of the sandy area (looking offshore) is the most consistent area. On the right day surf here can reach overhead and it's worth bearing in mind that this dumps onto rock.
Beach is exposed so windy days can spoil the waves.
Local town is very good. Ten mins walk from beach.
Look out for squaddies: there's Paras and Marines barracked nearby (Saint Athan camp) and they do have a habit of kicking off for no good reason.”
