Table - best surf conditions forecast for Aberavon over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s be real with you. I’ve looked at the charts and, honestly, it’s a pretty tough stretch for Aberavon over the next 16 days. The surf is going to be scarce, and for most of the time, it's a case of “don’t bother.”
Right from the start, we’ve got flat conditions. From Sunday 12th July right through to nearly the end of the month, the consistent picture is poor surf. There’s a long gap of over a week with nothing worth paddling out for. The only flicker of something bigger doesn’t show up until Wednesday 22nd July, where we see a 6ft swell rolling in from the W, cross-on shore with a period of 8 seconds. The combined swell energy here jumps to a moderate 377, so there’s some grunt behind it, but the wind is going to mess it up, making it look choppy and bumpy. That’s really an experts-only kind of day, and even then it’s not ideal. That same day the afternoon gets messy with stronger wind.
Another small pulse on Thursday 23rd July morning brings 5ft from the WNW (346 energy), but again it’s cross-on with a period of 7 seconds. The quality is simply not there for a good session. Crowds can be possible at Aberavon, but with this lack of quality, you likely won't be competing for waves.
Water temperature is noted as 68°F on the first day with an anomaly of 8°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a very unusual warm spell in the water, but it doesn’t matter when there's nothing to ride. The wind is a cross-off from the East early on, keeping things clean, but the swell is negligible.
After the 23rd, everything fades away again. The last few days of July and into Monday 27th see barely any noticeable swell. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore. There’s nothing that I can point to as a standout. If you are desperate, the morning of the 22nd is the only pulse that might offer a wave, but it's a poor-quality option for those who know what they're doing. It's one of those long, quiet spells. Forecasts can always change, but right now, it’s best to keep the board in the car.
Rusty.
