Table - best surf conditions forecast for Aberavon over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is a tough one to call, folks. Rusty here, and I’ve gotta be straight with you – looking at the next couple of weeks for Aberavon, it’s a flat spell, plain and simple. The data shows a long run of very small surf, with combined swell energy barely tickling two digits for most of the period and often sitting in the single digits. The best we can hope for are a few tiny, rideable waves, but nothing that’s going to get the heart racing. For the next week, it’s basically a write-off. We’ve got a stretch of mostly clean conditions, but on waves that are 1ft or smaller – that’s not surf, that’s a lake with a ripple. You’d be better off taking up kite surfing with the fresh breezes we’ve got on the cards.
The first real chance of anything comes on Thursday the 17th of July and Friday the 18th. Even then, we’re only looking at 1ft from the WSW. The period on Thursday afternoon is a short 6 seconds, so it’ll be weak and crumbly, but the wind is light cross-onshore. Friday morning has a moderate breeze from the NNW making it clean, but again, it’s tiny. The standout, if you can call it that, is the glassy Thursday morning on the 9th of July, but with 1ft of swell from the WSW at 10 seconds, it’s barely a ripple. The water temp is a very unusual 68°, which is a full 9° warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like a tropical bath, but with nothing to ride.
Later on, around Sunday the 20th of July, we see a slight bump to 2ft from the W on the morning of the 19th, but with a moderate cross-shore wind and a period of only 7 seconds, it’ll be lumpy and weak. The swell energy is 26 – still weak. The pattern holds: tiny waves, mostly clean but with no push. It’s a longer-term gap without any real recommendations. If you’re a beginner, these ankle-biters on the beach break might be okay for a paddle, but for anyone wanting a wave, there’s just nothing doing.
For the second week, the story stays the same. A few 1ft days here and there, but the periods drop to 4 or 5 seconds towards the end – that’s pure wind chop, no power. The wind is mostly cross-off from the NNW, which would be great if there was any swell. The forecast is reliable for the short term, and it’s reliably flat. The long-range potential is very low. Honestly, save your energy and your wax for another window.
Rusty.
