The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Aberavon.
It’s been a proper flat spell, and honestly, the first week of this outlook is a tough one. We’re looking at a gap that stretches from now, Friday 21st of August, all the way through to the end of the month, with nothing but tiny, weak leftovers or choppy, blown-out junk. The combined swell energy barely scrapes into double figures most days – down around 20 to 42 – and the wind’s mostly onshore or cross-shore, messing up what little is there.
Now, the first real glimmer of hope appears on Friday morning, 28th of August. For the first time in ages, we get a bit of a pulse. The wind swings around to the NNE, blowing gently offshore, which will clean the place right up. You’ll see a 4ft SW groundswell, with a period of 7 seconds, pushing the combined energy up to a moderate 233. It’s not huge, and the short period means it won’t have a ton of push, but it’s the cleanest conditions we’ve seen. This is your best bet for a surf, but you’ll be battling the occasional crowd here. After that, the wind turns raw and messy for the rest of the day and into the weekend.
Saturday the 29th brings a bigger 6ft to 6ft SW swell, and the energy jumps to 318 and 388, which is solid. But the wind is smashing it from the WSW, making it choppy and cross-onshore, so the quality won’t be there. This size is getting too big for the groms and beginners, and with the wind, it’s going to be a struggle.
After that, it fades back away into small, onshore slop right through to the end of the forecast period. Friday morning, 28th of August, is the only real standout – a clean, rideable window in a long stretch of poor surf.
Stay patient, lads.
