Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rest Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’m lookin’ at the whole 16-day window for Rest Bay, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough one. We’re in for a long, flat spell with hardly any surf to get excited about. The first real chance of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Friday the 24th, and even then, it’s not pretty. That’s a solid 11-day gap of nothing but tiny dribbles and onshore junk.
Right now, through to the 23rd, it’s pretty much a write-off. We’ve got tiny 0.3ft to 0.7ft swells, mostly from the SW, with a combined energy so weak it barely registers (single digits). The wind is all over the place – offshore, cross-off, onshore – but it doesn’t matter because there’s no wave to work with. The water temp is a wild one though, running 66°, which is a whopping 7° warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s very unusual for Rest Bay, so you’ll be sitting in a bath, but on a flat lake.
The first little blip of hope comes on Friday the 24th. We get a 4ft to 4ft SW swell pushing in, but it’s a short-period windswell at only 5 to 6 seconds. The combined energy climbs to 119 (moderate), but the problem is the wind. It’s blowing onshore from the W at 16 mph, so it’s gonna be a messy, choppy close-out. Not really worth paddling out for unless you’re desperate. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a clean paddle session.
Things settle down a bit on Saturday the 25th. The swell drops to 2ft from the W, but the wind goes light and variable – cross-off on the morning, then flat calm and glassy by the afternoon. Combined energy is weak (44 to 26), but if you’ve got a longboard or a foamie, you might find a few knee-high sliders. It’s clean, but very small.
We get a weird one on Sunday the 26th. The wind screams offshore from the E at 31 mph in the morning – a near gale. That’s gonna be nearly impossible to paddle into, even if the swell is only 1ft. The afternoon eases to a strong breeze from the ESE, so it’s cross-off and clean, but again, tiny.
The 16-day window ends with a bit more size on Monday the 28th and Tuesday the 29th, with 3ft to 2ft swells, but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and uninviting. The combined energy stays moderate (79 to 47), but the quality just isn’t there.
If you’re looking for the best of a bad bunch, Saturday the 25th afternoon is your standout. That glassy, clean 2ft surf is the only time the conditions actually line up for a proper session. It’s not gonna be epic, but it’s the only window where you’re not fighting the wind or staring at flat water.
Keep your eyes on the forecasts, though. It tends not to stay this poor for long around here, and things can change.
