The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a hard look at what we’ve got for Rest Bay over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, this is a pretty grim run. We are looking at a long, dry spell with no real surf to speak of. From now right through to the morning of Friday the 28th of August, it’s all tiny, weak, and mostly messy. The first few days are essentially flat, with swell heights barely scraping 1 ft to 2 ft and combined wave energy stuck in the weak range (42 or less). Even when the wind goes glassy on the morning of Saturday the 22nd, there’s just nothing in the water to ride.
We then go through a whole week of tiny, low-energy conditions. The mornings of Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th look clean with cross-off winds, but the swell is practically non-existent at 0.3 ft to 0.6 ft. You could be out there on a foamie, but honestly, it’s not worth the paddle. The energy never breaks 20 (weak).
Finally, on the morning of Friday the 28th of August, things start to wake up. Swell bumps to 4 ft from the WSW with a short 7-second period, and the wind is a clean cross-off from the NE. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 233. It’s still messy behind the scenes, but for the first time in over a week, there’s something to work with. If you’ve been waiting, that’s your best chance, but even then, the afternoon turns ugly with a 19 mph onshore.
Saturday the 29th morning pushes up to 6 ft from the WSW (8 seconds, 318 energy), but the wind swings cross-on, making it choppy. By the afternoon, it’s a full onshore mess at 6 ft. That’s expert-only territory for size, and with the wind, it’s blown out.
After that, we drop right back down into the doldrums for the first week of September. Nothing but tiny, weak, or windy junk. The forecast confidence for the second week is shaky, but the data shows no good windows.
So, there is no standout wave here over the whole 16-day window. The only flicker of hope is that Friday morning the 28th of August, and even that is just barely a session. The rest is a write-off.
Rusty.
