Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what the next couple of weeks are serving up.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch for Lynmouth. The whole 16-day window is pretty much a write-off for quality paddle surfing. We’re looking at a long, blank run here. For a spot like this, that’s not totally unusual, but it still stings.
The water’s sitting at a notable 64°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a real curveball.
Kicking off on Wednesday the 8th of July, we’ve got tiny 1ft west swell with a combined energy of just 24 – that’s weak. Wind is glassy on the morning, but the surf is just too small and weak to do anything with. This poor-quality theme carries right through until Friday the 17th of July. We see a tiny bump on Friday the 10th of July morning with 2ft west swell and a clean cross-offshore wind, but the energy is still weak at 42. It’s frustrating.
Even when we get a bit of a spike on Friday the 17th of July morning, with swell hitting 4ft from the ENE and energy climbing to 82, the period is a short 5 seconds and the wind is a messy cross-shore. It’s not going to be worth the paddle. The afternoon of the 19th of July shows 3ft west swell with glassy conditions and energy of 84, but the period is a weak 6 seconds. It’ll be a bumpy mess.
The best looking session in this entire outlook is Monday the 20th of July morning. We’ve got 3ft from the WNW with a period of 7 seconds, clean cross-offshore wind, and the energy hits 93. It’s the highest energy in the whole run. Still, it’s not big, and it’s more than a week away, so keep your expectations in check. After that, it’s back to tiny, weak, and wind-affected waves right through to the 23rd.
Honestly, if you’re looking for a wave right now, this setup looks far more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing given the strong cross and onshore winds we see so often. There’s just nothing consistent or decent for a surfboard.
Rusty.
