Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks. Straight off the bat, I've got to be honest with you: it's a tough outlook. We're looking at a seriously long stretch of nothing special, so if you're itching for a paddle, you might want to make other plans.
We're starting with Lynmouth, a point and river setup that only breaks occasionally and honestly, it's not looking like it's going to fire for a while. The first recommendation is for Saturday, July 4th, and it's a flat start. The swell is tiny at 2 ft from the West, with a moderate cross-shore wind of 15 mph making things lumpy. The combined wave energy is weak (133), and it's all just a bit of a mess.
The whole first week is a write-off. Through to the 8th of July, we're looking at swell heights barely scraping 1 ft, cross-shore winds, and poor surf conditions.
There is one tiny glimmer on Wednesday morning, July 8th. The wind goes glassy from the WNW at just 3 mph, but the swell is still only 1 ft from the West with a short 9-second period. The energy is pathetically weak (25). It'll be pretty as a millpond, but there's no wave to ride. That's not a surf, that's a float.
We then drift into the second week. The surf just gets smaller and smaller. By the 13th of July, we've got swell down to 0.7 ft on Monday morning with a cross-onshore breeze making it choppy. There's a little bump in energy on Monday afternoon (40) with a longer 11-second period, but the swell is still only 1 ft.
The only other moment that almost looks like something is the 14th of July, Tuesday, with swell up to 2 ft from the West and the combined energy climbing to 54. But that's still knee-high at best, and the wind is howling at 18 mph from the West, so it's going to be lumpy cross-shore chop. Not worth the drive.
The forecast finally ends on the 19th of July, Sunday morning. Again, glassy conditions with a 3 mph wind from the SSW, but the swell is a paltry 0.7 ft with a short 8-second period and energy at just 10. A beautiful, flat ocean.
So, there it is. We've got a 16-day run with nothing really to get excited about. If you're a beginner looking for waves over 5 ft, forget it. For the experts wanting anything over 8 ft, there's not a sniff. The only standout is that glassy patch on the morning of July 8th, but with no swell to back it up, it's just a pretty day. It's a tough run for Lynmouth. Forecasts can change though, so keep an eye out, but for now, I'd be looking for something else to do.
Rusty.
