Table - best surf conditions forecast for Southerndown over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s have a look at the next 16 days for Southerndown.
I’ll be honest, it’s a grim outlook. The whole 16-day window is mostly flat and frustrating. The water is sitting at 66°, which is a whopping 7° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s very unusual, feels like a warm bath.
The first week is a total washout. From Monday the 13th all the way through to Thursday the 23rd of July, the waves are tiny, almost non-existent. The combined energy is mostly below 20, which is barely a ripple. The wind is all over the place, mostly cross-off or cross-on, and while it’s often clean, there’s just nothing to ride. There’s a brief moment on Wednesday afternoon, the 15th, where the wind goes glassy at 3 mph from the NE, but with a swell of just 0.3 ft from the SW, it’s a flat, glassy pond. Not even a longboard would get wet.
We get a little flicker heading into the second week. On Friday the 24th of July, the swell tries to push up to 4 ft to 4 ft from the WSW, with the combined energy climbing to 119 (moderate). But the period is a short, weak 5 to 6 seconds. The wind is a nasty cross-on at 16 mph, turning it into a choppy, lumpy mess. It’s only for beginners, but honestly, the conditions are so poor it’s not worth the paddle.
Saturday the 25th sees a drop back to 2 ft from the W, with a clean cross-off wind from the ESE at 6 mph. The energy is weak (44 to 26). It’s clean but tiny. After that, a near-gale from the E on Sunday the 26th (31 mph) blows through, but the swell is only 1.0 ft. The very end of the run, Tuesday the 28th, has 3 ft from the WSW, but with a short period (7 seconds) and a fresh onshore wind, it’s just a choppy, lumpy mess again.
The best on offer? There isn’t a standout. The best conditions for a beginner would be the Saturday morning of the 25th, with clean 2 ft waves and a light offshore breeze. But it’s still tiny. For anyone else, there’s nothing to get excited about. This is a classic blank run for the area; it’s just one of those flat spells.
Rusty.
