Table - best surf conditions forecast for Southerndown over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Southerndown has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – it's looking pretty grim. The finder's come up empty for any decent waves, so we're in for a long, flat spell.
We're starting off this Saturday, the 11th of July, and there's just nothing doing. A tiny 0.7ft swell from the WSW with a short 8-second period, and the combined swell energy is a feeble 12. That's barely a ripple. The wind's a cross-offshore, which would be nice if there was any wave to hold up. But there isn't. This poor excuse for surf is set to continue right through the whole weekend and into the start of the next week.
In fact, prepare yourselves for a bleak run. From now until around the 20th of July, we're looking at a solid stretch of days with nothing worth paddling out for. You'll see the odd bump of energy, like on the 13th when a long-period 19-second groundswell shows up, but it's only 0.3ft and the energy is just 19 – it's more of a phantom than a wave. The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, and a lot of it is fresh, making things choppy and lumpy. There's just no power or size to work with.
The only flicker of something that isn't completely flat happens around the 20th of July, Monday. We get a small bump in swell height to 2ft and then 2ft, but the period drops to a tiny 4 or 5 seconds. The combined energy creeps up to 33 and 35, which is still weak. And with onshore winds up to 18 mph creating a lumpy mess, it's not surfable. Honestly, with that wind and those short-period windswells, the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than for a paddle surfer. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
After that, it fades back to nothing for the final days of the window, through to the 26th of July. There are just no standout waves, no good windows. It’s a total blank run, and for Southerndown, that's just the way it goes sometimes. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the boards at home.
Rusty.
