Table - best surf conditions forecast for Southerndown over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me give it to you straight. Southerndown’s got nothing going for it across the whole 16‑day run – from Friday 10 July through Saturday 25 July, every session is a dud with zero scores. That’s a long dry spell for a break that’s usually fairly consistent.
This spot’s a beginner‑friendly wave, but the water’s sitting at 66°F – a solid 7°F warmer than normal, so it’s much warmer than average. Doesn’t matter much when the swell’s non‑existent and the wind’s all wrong. The offshore direction that works here is NE, but the first week we get ESE, E, ENE winds – mostly cross‑off, which keeps the surface clean, but the swell is tiny. On Friday 10 July there’s 1 ft from the WSW with a 9‑second period, weak energy (29), and then it drops to 0.7 ft on Saturday. Winds hit 15‑25 mph through the weekend, so even those little waves get chopped up.
Mid‑week around 13‑16 July the swell period gets long (14‑19 sec) but the height is only 0.3‑0.7 ft – groundswell that doesn’t have any push. Combined energy stays low – mostly teens and twenties. Winds stay cross‑off or cross, so the surface is clean, but there’s nothing to surf.
The second week sees a slight bump from around 21 July, with 3‑3 ft from the WSW, periods around 5‑7 sec, and combined energy climbing into moderate territory (92‑128). But the wind shifts to cross‑on and onshore, blowing from W and SW at 12‑19 mph. That’ll make it lumpy – moderate cross‑onshore chop. On 25 July the swell hits 4 ft from WSW, 8 sec, energy 186 – still moderate but the wind’s cross‑on at 19 mph. For a beach break, that’s more of a kiteboarding setup than a paddle session. Nothing matches the optimum SW direction the spot likes.
So bottom line: no standout period. If you’re really jonesing, the small window around 22‑23 July might offer some weak, choppy waves, but honestly, don’t bother. Forecasts can change – it’s not unusual for this area to turn around – but as it stands, it’s a complete washout.
